This story is about Barabbas and Martha, the sister of Mary and Lazarus. So many stories have been written from Mary's point of view, but I haven't ever ready one from Martha's. Connecting her with Barabbas was intriguing to me. I enjoyed this book, although the story turned out to be more true-to-life than happily ever after. It was well written, true to the Bible and history (although obviously much of the story was fleshed out through the author's imagination), and the characters were very real. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys Biblical fiction.
This was a wonderful window into the Biblical world of Mary, Martha, Lazarus, Barabas and Jesus. It made the whole story very real and very touching. Barabas was the rebel who left Martha, whom he loved to try and wrest power from the Romans back to the Jews. You can observe the power of Jesus' miracles, his crucifixion and resurrection. I loved the characters, their compassion, their hatred, and their love for others. It was a very poignant and well written book.
