The lost writings of Anton LaVey! In slim volume are over 60 tabloid newspaper articles written by the founder of the Church of Satan, long thought to be forever lost and forgotten.
High Priest of the Church of Satan as well as a writer, occultist, musician, and actor.
He was the author of The Satanic Bible and the founder of LaVeyan Satanism, a synthesized system of his understanding of human nature and the insights of philosophers who advocated materialism and individualism, for which he claimed no "supernatural inspiration."
LaVey viewed "Satan" not as a literal deity or entity, but as a historic and literary figure symbolic of Earthly values.
Splendid ephemera from the weekly 'Letters From The Devil' column, an indispensable collection from The National Insider & The Exploiter ("the world's liveliest magazine"), which may appropriately accompany & supplement The Devil's Notebook and Satan Speaks, in My estimation. LFTD spans the period between the founding of The Church of Satan and the publication of The Satanic Bible.
Among a myriad of topics covered, this collection of writings from Dr. LaVey includes social commentary, philosophy, Lesser & Greater Magic, sexuality, reader questions, plus the bonus of salaciously humorous illustrations, various erotic ads, current oddity events, & news, allowing for a time travel experience as well.
Of note, the publisher really did a perfectly marvelous job here with 72 crisp, clear entire prints as originally published in those magazines. As included in a description, one could hypothetically spend quite a bit of time, energy, and monetary resources in the acquisition of each very rare individual magazine from various sellers, or possess the collection herein this veritable "Devil's scrapbook".
Back in the heyday of the Church of Satan, Anton LaVey wrote a regular magazine column titled 'Letters From the Devil'. This book is a collection of his writings scanned from that source.
In some respects, there's nothing really new here. The ground he covers is incorporated in his other writings, but it's still refreshing to see him responding to readers' questions with humour, style, insight and occasional vitriol.
It's a fairly slender book, but with very small print. It's a fine read. The tacky advertisements and brief additional articles are also great at providing both context and humour.
I had never expected to see these columns published and it's been refreshing and fascinating to revisit the thoughts of one of the greatest men of the Twentieth Century.
Well, these are letters from a second hand news paper that mostly, lost in life people used to read during the 70's. Anton Lavey, a chilly philosopher author of the "Satanic Bible", shows letters of common people that think that satanism is full of Magic and rituals and curses and that sort of thing. He says in 80% of this "book" that is not like that. I've taken out a bit out of this book, reading this actually made me feel more inside myself, and gave me a highlight about people in general because of the dumb things people write to him. Overall, this was cool, i didnt have fun at all, i expected to see more craziness in here and like hardcore die hard fans of Lord Satan aka Lucifer aka Prince of Darkness, but it end ups in that Satanism is just living, very Zen. Dr Lavey is a very smart man, i respect him, and after all he lived, i bet he has seen deeper into this than what he shows. This is what he actually wants; that you find it in yourself and be a baller.
