Letting Go

Rate this book
At 39 years of age, Laura seemed to have it all—a beautiful home, her own advertising agency, and a stunningly beautiful lover. And in business where luscious legs and a dazzling smile can make the difference between winning and losing a new account, Laura won lots of new accounts. But something was missing from her life…

Handsome and charming, barhopping Kelly is absolutely irresistible to all women, including herself. Everyone knows that when Kelly sets her sights on someone it is only a matter of time before she gets her way. And she’s got her sights set on Laura…

A successful commercial artist who does business with Laura’s firm, Kate has also done well for her 23 years. She has brains, looks, talent—and a secret crush on Laura. But Laura has no intention of mixing business with pleasure—especially not with a “baby-dyke.”

Easy-fast read, enjoyable, with very sweet and hot moments but unfortunately precipitously ended. This book was too short for what I assume the author tried to achieve initially with this story, and though it seemed captivating according to the synopsis (which portrays the appearance of 3 main characters), once you get into it, you begin to see its flaws in many aspects.

I think that if a story is portraying more than 2 main characters, the need of more pages is essential when trying to attain an appropriate development of each of them. In this case, the story, being so short, ruined not only the plot in general but also the evolution of some of the characters in a way that may leave you unsatisfied. That being said, the sudden ending directly affected the credibility of the story, since the characters don't seem to have an appropriate settled background to justify some of their actions. Only one of the characters (Laura) was developed properly, but since there's obviously a connection between all of them, the course of the whole storyline was also altered.

In regards to the abrupt ending, in my opinion It more specifically affected Kate's development, a character that figured as one of the two most relevant in the whole story. And as a result, this character seemed to be forced to adopt reactions in an accelerated way that from a common point of view would have required more time and even more events that could justify them.

Also, this book was basically focused on Laura's perspective, it almost seemed as if this book had been written in a first-person narrative, leaving the rest of the characters without an apposite and weak background. This was quite disappointing and probably the waste of a story that could have perfectly been a great one.

About the love/sex scenes, I have to say they were very hot and intense with an appropriate rhythm that easily immerse you in them. Well portrayed.

Finally, the plot of this story could have been managed in a better way since the underlying idea was appealing and attractive but instead it only seemed hastened. However, I give it 3 stars because there were some nice moments.

It's kind of disappointing when a book don't meet your expectations, however some readers liked it a lot, so it's very plausible that some of you find this story really nice. So, give it try and draw your own conclusions.

Really wanted to like since it was Australian novel(la?) But short, insipid and cliched.

Not exactly bad, but unimaginative and the constant switching between characters points if view gave me whiplash and made it hard to read...

I read this because it is short and I'm behind on my reading challenge and could knock it off in a couple of spare hours. This was like a car crash you couldn't look away from. To be honest, I've read better fan fiction.
Plot, there wasn't really much of one aside from 30 something woman finds out girlfriend is having sex with a man, kicks her out and then jumps into bed with someone else while fancying another someone else but they are young. What happens next is obvious.
Character development, not sure, characters jumped pretty quickly from one emotion to another not really true to life.
Expression, overwritten and clichéd. I don't care what morsel of food a character is sticking on their fork and putting in their mouth as they are nearly knocked sideways by the stunning beauty and sophistication of the woman they can hardly believe they managed to convince to go out to dinner with them after trying so desperately for three lines of conversion. And if Laura twists that damn ring on her finger or fiddles with a lighter one more time, I swear...Dialogue seemed stilted and unrealistic or maybe it's because I've read similar dialogue over and over in fan fiction.
Style, there is a point, when an inexperienced writer tries to write a passionate scene so passionately that it becomes absurd. A reader should be aroused by a sex scene not wondering what it would look like if the character did actually explode with ecstasy. And I'm sorry, was Kate raised in a shack with her hands tied behind her back? Deus ex machina also makes an appearance by way of a convenient middle of the night florist.
I'm going to stop there before I get carried away.

Meh. Weak characterizations, weak plot. Full of stereotypes. I totally understand why people say lesbian romances suck if they read a book like this.

The characters were too one dimensional, the story was too simple, the dialog sometimes made me cringe.

Un nouveau roman lesbien et de nouveau un coup de coeur ... Le style de l'auteur est simple et efficace tout comme l'histoire en elle-même, mais c'est justement ça qui rend la lecture aussi bonne
