An English spa town in 1935 is made famous by an American novel: a love-story. Three years later, a young married actress travels there alone and finds the love-story itself, as she falls passionately in love with a young English man. Then, in the present, history seems to repeat itself when an English girl, haunted by the novel, visits the town and falls in love with a young archaeologist working there, and the tragic secrets of the pre-war love-affair are finally revealed.

Sooo dull. I did persevere with it in case it picked up, but there was something missing. Was it trying too hard to be something else? I can't decide.

This one was simply alright. It wasn't terrible, far from it but I feel it could've been a lot better.

My main issue was that the plot was not only predictable but also quite far-fetched which was disappointing. Ghost Music travels across time periods, and that worked well, affording us the chance to follow multiple narratives all linked by one novel. What didn't work well (in my opinion) was to have two time periods suddenly collide, it made the story seem unbelievable.

I found the language to be a little over the top as well, it would've worked better I feel if it had been stripped back a little. I like imagery but for me this was too much.

I liked the characterisation. This is a multi-perspective narrative with a third person narration so there was no one main protagonist. Instead there were main characters and they were all constructed really well. Their stories were told at the same pace so that there was no bias towards any particular narrative. This was the main reason why I kept reading.

As I say, it wasn't terrible but it won't be one I read again.
