Each entry in this collection, in the space of a thousand words or fewer, tells such a story, a unique story, with its own voice and style. Take a moment-no, take as long as you wish-to peruse these clever, moving, chilling, and wryly humorous examples of a lively literary form-Flash
Flash fiction isn't a new phenomenon; short-short or micro stories have been written in various guises for at least a century. Often dismissed as mere vignettes or moments in time, flash fictions have found their value in the early 21st Century. As the generations become more technically savvy, the amount of information they consume has increased dramatically. This information gluttony has left little time for the more leisurely pursuits of yesteryear; readers these days like their information in byte-sized chunks, and fiction fans are no exception. Flash! the flash fiction anthology edited by Chris Bartholomew, offers up some meaty morsels as well as plant-friendly dishes for the more environmentally conscious. Easy to dip in and out, at the bus stop or on the train, Flash! has something for everyone, although one thing I would have liked to have seen is a table of contents with page numbers against each story.
