This book is a little out of my usual genres with the science fiction angle, but I really enjoyed the characters, intrigue, and politicking. Secrets, attraction, betrayal, sex. I enjoyed the MCs and was drawn in wondering how it would all turn out.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
This is Book 2 of 3 in this series. Read book 1 first for background information on characters and storyline. This is the story of Alitus and how he becomes a Chosen for the Empress and has a secret affair with Wulf. Ends oddly, so now I can't wait to read book 3.
DNF after disappointment with #1. Again, the blurb wasn't good representation of the book. Political machinations were intriguing. Characters less fascinating.
Book 2 in the Chosen Series (a futuristic romance series) by Ms. Allen. This book has just about everything - Love, Sex, Power-plays, Secrets, etc. Alitus is a gorgeous guy that was a sex slave to a powerful female in this futuristic Empire (She saved him after a horrible attack leaving him un-trusting in the sexual arena). She frees Alitus and wants him to become her one trusted Chosen (a very high honor for a sub-servent). But to become her Chosen, Alitus's loyality must be tested. This test is to involved another Chosen. Little due to they know the two Chosens are lovers. (OH did I say that Chosens are forbidden to interact on a personal level - well they are). What is it that they say... "It's Complicated".
Can Alitus and his lover pull off the test without revealing their love for one another (risking death, seperation or banishment if they fail)? If Alitus passes the test, can he and his lover keep their lives a secret as they continue their duties as Chosen's?
