Ellie Stuart is finally getting a chance to make something of her life and her three boys, even though it's tough. She's juggling a job, college courses and motherhood but is thankful that Navy SEAL Sean Harlan continues to rent them one of his homes far below market. Sean continues to fight his feelings for Ellie; he's just not a commitment kind of guy. When he goes out of town for a weekend getaway to get her out of mind, her children are inexplicably abducted, leaving her shattered and struggling alone.

This was a harrowing story that was a nail biter from start to finish. The lead up to the abduction was almost seductive, bonding you to the children and their relationship with Ellie and Sean. The journey to find who was behind the kidnapping was fraught with minefields I found terrifying at times. The secret society connection was mysterious and murky, adding a whole new level of tension.

I "loved" this story though it gave me serious heartburn. Anytime children are involved it keeps things rocky. My only criticism is how it ended, with some issues still rather vague. I'm hoping they are addressed in upcoming stories. 4.5 stars

Loved it. Marliss Melton is one of my favorite writers of Romantic Suspense, and TOO FAR GONE is another winner! It's got a courageous, sexy, caring hero, a brave, no-nonsense heroine, lots of gripping suspense, some hot romantic scenes, heart-breaking moments, and a conclusion that brought tears to my eyes.

Ellie Stuart is a young, divorced mother of 3 young boys, determined to turn her life around after ridding herself of her loser, cheating, no-good husband. She rents a small cottage in Virginia from Navy SEAL Sean Harlan while juggling a job, college, and caring for her young sons. She vows to make it on her own this time, and insists she doesn't need a man in her life or in her bed. But the more she's around Sean Harlan, the harder it is to keep that vow.

As her landlord, ladies' man Sean enjoys spending time with Ellie and her boys whenever he gets the chance. And even though he tells himself he has no room in his life for a woman with children, he finds himself inexplicably drawn to pretty Ellie and her spirited kids.

Tragedy strikes one day and Ellie's boys are stolen from her while she's ambushed on a Virginia backroad. The police think that she may have something to do with their disappearance, not convinced of her story that the boys were kidnapped. But Sean knows that Ellie would never harm her kids, and comes to her aid. He's not ready to admit it to himself, but he loves Ellie's kids as if they were his own. He puts his heart, his career, and ultimately his life on the line to help Ellie find her sons.

After Sean and Ellie do some digging on their own, they conclude that Ellie's ex-husband Carl may have something to do with her kids disappearance. They discover that Carl is part of a sinister nationwide organization called the Centurions. The Centurions are led by Owen Dulay, a man who claims the Centurions take pleasure in helping the less fortunate, but really hide money laundering, racketeering, and other money making crimes behind their charitable organizations. But what Sean and Ellie can't figure out is why the Centurions would want a loser like Carl, and why Carl, who's never shown an interest in his kids before, would suddenly want them now. Sean and Ellie have a heck of a time getting anyone in authority to believe their theory, and soon the FBI target Sean as a possible suspect.

There's lots of twists and turns in this story, and corruption by people in authority, and it isn't until the book is nearly 2/3 over that you find out the motive for Ellie's kid's kidnapping. Along the way Ellie and Sean provide support and comfort (i.e. hot sex) to one another, and you can feel that they are growing more and more attached to each other and falling in love. But will they finally get a break and find out where her boys are hidden, before Sean is railroaded for a crime he didn't commit?

I really enjoyed this story--it was fast paced, had a good plot, engaging characters, and was hard to put down. There's no question that Ellie and Sean were a perfect match, and I could see that Sean would be an excellent father to her boys. However, I felt that there were some questions about Sean and his background that the author left unanswered. I was curious about his past--why did he become a SEAL? Did he have parents or any family other than a brother who died from cancer? Why was he a love 'em and leave 'em guy? Was there a reason he couldn't/wouldn't commit, or was his job as a SEAL his excuse? I also wondered why he said he couldn't date a woman with kids--I kept waiting for a big reason to be revealed, but none was.

But that's just a minor compaint, and it didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of the story. Fans of the series will be happy to see appearances from some previous characters, most notably TV reporter Lia, her fiancee and SEAL Vinny, FBI agent Hannah, Commander Joe, and Solomon and Jordan. There was a secondary budding romance between a young FBI agent and an important witness who ends up it the witness protection program, and I'm hoping it will be developed in a future book.

If you enjoy romantic suspense in the style of Beverly Barton or Karen Rose, you're sure to enjoy this romantic thriller by Marliss Melton--4 1/2 stars!

Navy SEAL Sean Harlan admires Ellie Stuart for moving forward with her life after she and her three boys are abandoned by her husband. Sean becomes her landlord, but he keeps their relationship as friends. He doesn't need a woman with kids in his life. But when two men pull Ellie out of her car and drive off with her three boys inside, Sean promises to help her get them back. The police are of little help, questioning whether Ellie is behind her children's disappearance. It looks like Ellie and Sean are on their own in bringing back her kids.

This is a fast-moving romantic suspense story. We were introduced to both Ellie and Sean in the previous book in the series. Ellie has had a lot of bad things happen in her life. Her children are her first priority. Sean may not want a woman with kids in his life, but that doesn't stop him from falling for Ellie Stuart. As Ellie and Sean search for her sons, they become the prime suspects in the case. My rating: 4.5 Stars.

My least favorite SEAL Team 12 book to date. The kidnapping plot didn't work well for me, and super-powerful secret organizations are a weak plot device in my opinion. Right down to the silly password phrase and griffin ring, the Centurions came off as more comic book than suspense thriller. The all-encompassing power of the group wasn't believable. I was sorry to see that the author intends to bring them back in future books.

I did care for the main characters, as well as Drake and Skylar. I'm not comfortable with a woman desperately looking for her children while having great sex with a Navy SEAL, but on some level I can see the need for comfort and forgetfulness, so I suspended disbelief on that score.

Wonderful series full of action, romance and suspense. The plot for Too Far Gone could have been ripped from the headlines, with a twist here and there. The character development and romance were both realistic and the plot was suspenseful with the good guys winning, but with a few loose ends.

Ellie is a single mother struggling to raise her three boys and get an education so she can give them a better life. Her dead bead ex has totally bailed on them and Ellie is all they have. She is making it work for them with help from SEAL Solomon (convoluted relationship) and her landlord, Sean, whom her boys just adore. Ellie secretly does too, but a man, especially Sean, is the absolute last thing she needs right now.

Sean is a Navy SEAL and a babe magnet, he knows it too. He has a firm dating (having sex with) policy: no single women with kids. Firm non-negotiable, ever. But Ellie is such a wonderful, loving person that Sean is infatuated with her and her strength of character, not to mention her bod too. When he returns from overseas, the attraction is still strong and Sean takes leave to scratch the itch with an old hookup.

While Sean is gone Ellie's kids are kidnapped and both Ellie and Sean fall under suspicion. They band together to pursue leads which take them to Savannah, GA and a mysterious group called the Centurions. Since law enforcement is not their friend they turn to others to aid in finding and returning the boys. The romance was hot and the suspense intense.

The sixth addition to the SEAL Team 12 series. A wonderful suspenseful continuation of a great series. Definitely a mother's worst nightmare. The story will keep you on the edge of your seat until the conclusion. Has some really heart wrenching moments especially regarding the children. The romance itself lagged a little but that was understandable in light of the situation. There were appearances of several characters from previous stories and introductions to others that we would love to see more of.

3.5 stars. After three fabulous books, this one was a little meh for me. I didn't connect with the characters and didn't feel any chemistry between the hero and heroine. It was okay, but the others have been better.

I was on the edge of my seat about 1/2 way into this one thru the end. Wonderful suspense and drama. There wasn't a lot of romance, but I still enjoyed the main characters (Sean and Ellie). Both were introduced in an earlier book.

Also, Vinny and Ophelia (Lia) from "Next to Die" (#4 in this series) are in this one as are Joe Montgomery (same book) and Soloman, Hannah (#1), etc. Be sure to read the series in order or I think the character names being tossed out will leave you gasping.

The author set up another story in this one, too. Maybe more: Maggie, the Forensic Anthropologist; Skyler and Drake (FBI Agent). Definitely foresee more about Skyler and Drake!

Here's the spoiler:

I thought, it would have been better to have the newspaper with camera's rolling, present to get the kids out. There had to be other kidnapped children in the facility! As a mother, with the SEALs there and camera crew, I would have taken my kids out. She was, for crying out loud, being accused of harming her children and there they were!
*************************************

There is a lot of corruption in this book and I would have liked more "busting" in the Centurion chain. I foresee more about this organization in future books.

This one pushed all my buttons. Mess with children, animals and the elderly and I get all riled up (2 out of 3 were in this book). Hard to put down!

This was not one of my favorite's in the series but it was well written. I just didn't connect with the main characters and the "who kidnapped her kids" was a bit far fetched.

Sean is a Navy Seal who is renting out his house to Ellie and her three boys. Ellie has had a very hard life and had a horrible first marriage. Sean takes care of Ellie and her boys and he is like a surrogate father to her boys when he is around. He is attracted to Ellie but thinks he could never be with just one woman (in fact he goes off and has sex with another woman to stop thinking about Ellie when her boys are kidnapped.) Ellie is a mixture of tough and vulnerable and will do anything to get her boys back.

The story was well written if not terribly unique. I didn't really like the second sex scene between Sean and Ellie when her boys were missing since I just didn't buy her being in the right frame of mind for sex. The first time was more believable as a swept away by the many emotions she was dealing with so I was okay with it but I just didn't think the second one played as well.

I also struggled with Sean being so involved in Ellie and her boy's lives, risking his life to track them down but not realizing how he felt about her. There was a secondary love story that had a bitter sweet ending and I imagine we will hear more from those two characters.

Although I had some problems with points along the way and I had to ignore my mind asking questions. Once I ignored my internal monologue of questions, I did enjoy this story.

The scene where the kids are stolen from their mom was definitely riveting. You could really feel what kind of terror that would be. The concept of who is behind the kidnapping is really good and falls into modern day conspiracy theories of secret groups who control events behind the scenes.

The characters are well developed and the book kept a really good pace. A secondary romance was bittersweet and I really liked the characters in that relationship.

Although for the most part this book stands alone, this is definitely a series which works best when read in order.

I have loved the other books in this series. That said, I didn't enjoy this book at all. I couldn't get past Ellie having sex on her mind while her three young children were missing! If my children had been kidnapped and I had no idea who had them, I wouldn't be able to function let alone be initiating sex with a new partner! I found it unbelievable too that an undercover FBI agent would reveal his true identity to a new sex partner he barely knew because he was so overcome by desire. Pleeeeese!

We've met the hero and the heroine in this book in the past book. This is the 6th full book in the series.

The heroine had only ever wanted to become a mother and have a good life with her children and husband. What she got was a husband who liked to have sex but didn't really care for her or the kids. When her sister's child shows up after she passes on she includes him into the family like one of their own. What they didn't have enough of was money for food and to keep a roof over their heads. When our heroine's husband decides to sell their ramshakle house without her knowledge, she's had it. She finds her sister's child's father, who comes to claim him as he was taken while he was away on an assignment, he tells her to contact him if she ever needs anything and hands her his information. He gave her the information only because she had taken good care of his son and is doing it tough.

Anyhow, after the heroine and children are basically thrown out of their house, she takes the last bit of money they do have and decide to contact her sister's former husband. While shocked she contacted him, he and his SEAL buddies along with our hero, get her and the kids set up in a house and with a job along with babysitting for the kids when needed. Our hero visits her and the kids often to help them where he can and she'd let him. After a few months, the heroine decided to go back to school for a better job to improve life for her and her kids.

One day she has a van stop her and force her out of the car and they take her kids. After she's able to find herself back home, she calls the cops and reports it, but the cops think she's lying and she's done something to the children. The hero and his SEAL buddies do believe her and go searching for her kids. Along the way the hero and heroine bond even more. The kids are more like their survivalist mother and have some skills because of the time the hero's spent with them teaching them things. However, when the heroine's husband (soon to be ex) and his boss are found to be the ones with ties to the SEALs and kids, how can the be stopped?

I knew or know of people like the heroine in this story. People like the hero I've met as well. You can tell they want to be together but also fight it. The plot was a good one, but you always knew the husband, or ex, was the one behind things, but I liked the spin the author put on it. It is worth a read just to see what's to happen next.

Ellie Stuart lives a crazy, hectic life. It’s not easy being a single mom raising three kids. You know how people are always warning you to avoid driving the back, county roads; well Ellie should have taken that advice. While she was driving one night along a back road, Ellie ends up being ambushed by a couple of men. The men pull Ellie from her car and take off with her three kids in the back sit.

Now Ellie needs her landlord’s help. Navy Seal Sean Harlan would like to start something with Ellie but there’s just one problem, he doesn’t like commitment and women with children involved in the equation are not his thing. When it comes to Ellie, Sean may have to make an exception. The more time Sean and Ellie spend with each other the stronger the attraction gets between them. As Ellie and Sean get nearer to the truth, the more sinister the plot becomes.

Marliss Melton really loves her men and I understand why; who wouldn’t want a big, buff, tall man around all the time. May I present Sean who is sexy with a capital “S”. You know what they say about Navy Seals… they move in and get the job done and this also applies in the bedroom! I thought Ellie was very likable as well as perfect fit for Sean. Too Far Gone is book six in Marliss Melton’s Navy Seals series. This is one sizzling book. From page one this story runs on full octane and never lets up till the very end. The next time you are looking for a great romance thriller then look no farther then Too Far Gone. Marliss Melton brings the heat as well as the passion.

Too Far Gone is a sexy, emotionally-charged and downright enjoyable, suspenseful romance!”BCM

Is it too much to ask for a little bit of peace and quiet?
For Ellie Stuart who is a single mom, finding the time and energy to keep up with her busy life and still tend to her three young and energetic boys, the answer is a definite yes!
Goodness knows her life is complicated enough without having a man in her life.
When Navy Seal and landlord Sean Harlan stops by to do repairs on his rental property and Ellie’s home, she can’t help but notice how darn sexy he is. Not that she’d ever let herself get mixed up with him. But Sean’s easy manner with the boys and the extra little things he does to make her rented house more of a home for them, can’t help but warm her carefully guarded heart.
Though Sean is off-limits, neither of them can fully ignore the sexual tension that flairs between them.
One night, as Ellie is driving down a dark back-road, she is viciously attacked by...

So my favorite of the series so far. I loved Sean, I loved Ellie and I loved them together. 4.85stars

Our SEAL of the week in this thrilling episode is Sean the good-time guy acting on that spark we saw in Don't Let Go with hard-luck Ellie. Independent Ellie's struggle raise her three sons in a better environment than either her past or theirs has seen has to fight to find who the mysterious people are that have kidnapped her sons. She hits all the right notes as a distraught & frazzled mother concerned for her missing babies welfare. For me she missed a step in her decision to take the relationship with Sean to the next level. I know we don't really get to decide who & when to play the love game with (more often than not), it seems that it was too easy to ignore the world and wallow in his all consuming kisses. That was the only issue I had with the book.

As usual the plot & pacing were excellent, the storyline was gripping and I am a great fan of Ms. Melton's writing. This makes me even sadder to go to the next book - knowing that it is the last in the series,

Got to be kidding me, there was little time for romance because of all the action and subplots. Ellie, well, I liked her well enough except that she sounded way too desperate for Sean. I understood her desperation and was distraught for her children, but - it felt too convinient. I didn't like the fact he was intimate with another woman while Ellie was fighting for her three sons that night. Hell, Sean couldn't even 'help flirting a bit' with another woman during the storyline before he finally realizes he loves Ellie and the kids. Sean was okay, but definitely not one of my favorite alpha heroes. Everything between them felt forced and their love only pushed through because of the kidnapping and everything was wrapped up in a nice little bow. I mean, their was a little bit of the new feelings sprouting for him but it just wasn't developed enough that I was too frustrated with him and Ellie's thoughts of him. 2.5 stars - I'm disappointed.

For some reason I have found Sean's denial that he doesn't date women with kids to be funny. From the moment that Ellie showed up he was always around and playing with her kids. So in a way I was glad to see all the crap that came Ellie's way, as it forced both of them to admit they cared for each other more than they wanted to admit.

I do have to say that I do think less of Sean for little getaway for sexcapades. At that point he knew he had a thing for Ellie and his trip into playland could only come back later to bite him in the butt.

The whole Centurion thing was mildly interesting. I did like the secondary romance that was going on with some of those characters. I hope things work out for them.

Some of the best scenes in this one were the scenes with the boys. Caleb, with his defiant attitude and knowledge that he could save his family, and Colton who knew who was really his father.

While this novel had a bit of romance in it, the main story was the kidnapping of a mother's three children. Ellie, a single mom, is on her way to drop off a paper at college when she is thrown out of her car and strangers drive off with her three boys. She turns to Sean, a Navy SEAL, who has feelings for her in order to find her children as the police and the FBI seem to be accusing her of killing her own children. Sean and Ellie search out Carl, the father of the boys who swears he has nothing to do with the abduction. However, in a twisted maze of lies, they find a group called the Centurions who are descendents of the plantation owners in the Civil War. They believe in handing down their power to male children and the head of the group has no male offspring (or so it seems). A good mystery with lots of twists and turns that kept me interested to the last page.

I love this series. Marliss Melton creates intriguing stories that keep you interested and moving quickly through the pages.
The relationship between Ellie and Sean is hot and started building at the end of the last book. He has a soft spot for her three boys, but he doesn't want to settle down. He can't stop thinking about her, though. He does what he can to exercise her from his thoughts, but she remains. When her boys are kidnapped, he's right there for her. He cares about them almost as much as she does.
The story leaves a couple of open ends with secondary characters that I presume will show up in a book soon. The story of the Centurions isn't finished just yet. I'm looking forward to more.

I can only say good things about this book. Although as a mother of 3 boys, it was hard at some points to read. Actually made me feel a little ill for a while, but thats how good the writing is.

Just came from Melton's website where I was distressed to read that her publisher has decided not to publish anymore Seal books. So after the next book, which I have yet to read and now may hold onto a while, there won't be anymore SEAL Team 12.

In any case, Sean is a great hero and Evie is strong even as she goes through hell. I was a little distressed at the ending, unlike Melton's other books Evie kind of just understands Sean's deep dark secret. There's no real argument about it. But taht does fit with Evie's character.

Great book. Highly recommend.

Book 6 in the Seal Team 12 series is Harlan and Ellie's story. A good story and nice romance that I I didn't expect to like. Harlan wasn't one of the team that I ached to read about especially after Solomon's story which left me kind of weary fo the series. But HArlan proved to much more likable then I expected and Ellie was a great strong character; a single mom struggling to raise 3 young sons and prove her independence at the same time. The suspense was there and I liked the introduction of the secondary players (Blake and Skylar who should probably get their own story if she ever continues this series).I loved when Colton called Harlan "Daada"and the SEAL just melted wishing he could enjoy the moment.

Too Far Gone held every element with equilibrum between suspense and romance. The writing is so wonderful and so visually stimulating that you'll see the story take on this realness as the characters and storyling come to life where you'll feel you are actually seeing it not reading it. This story is definitely an adrenaline pumping read where you will feel the emotions that the characters are feeling. Marliss definitely has this talent for drawing out her characters both leading and sub and her storylines that are so captivatng, as is with all of her stories, where the reader will become so engrossed not wanting to put the book(s) down for one minute.
