Lisa Jackson is the number-one New York Times bestselling author of over ninety-five novels, including the Rick Bentz and Reuben Montoya Series, the Pescoli and Alvarez Series, the Savannah series, and numerous stand alone novels. There are over thirty million copies of her novels in print and her writing has been translated into twenty languages.

Before she became a nationally bestselling author, she was a mother struggling to keep food on the table by writing novels, hoping against hope that someone would pay her for them. With dozens of bestsellers to her name, Lisa Jackson is a master of taking readers to the edge of sanity—and back—in novels that buzz with dangerous secrets and deadly passions. She continues to be fascinated by the minds and motives of both her killers and their pursuers—the personal, the professional, and the downright twisted. As she builds the puzzle of relationships, actions, clues, lies, and personal histories that haunt her protagonists, she must also confront the fear and terror faced by her victims and the harsh and enduring truth that, in the real world, terror and madness touch far too many lives and families.

The book wasn’t bad but I didn’t like it as well as I did the first in the serious. Honestly it’s mainly because there wasn’t much sex but this one also seemed to drag on forever then abruptly ended on the last twenty pages of the book. The story could have sped up in the middle and had more at the end of it.

Meh. It was ok. The romance bored me and I just wasn't really invested in it. I had a hard time following the audio narration. Overall this was kind of a dud for me. I enjoyed the first book in this trilogy, "Impostress" and I remember loving the 3rd book years ago when I read it but I had never read this one and was just very underwhelmed by it.

Book 2 of the Medieval Trilogy Series

I have to admit that Lisa Jackson develops an excellent suspense plot and a great mystery. I was guessing almost to the end. Unfortunately, I was also guessing who the romance was supposed to be between. Without spoiling the book, I can’t tell you why, because it’s truly a very big surpris

Suffice it to say that the entire time ‘Carrick’ was injured (severely) and spent most of his time in bed. For most of the book he wasn’t able to speak or wouldn’t speak. There’s one conversation that they end up having, before their passionate lovemaking.

*****BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG SPOILER ALERT: READ AT YOUR OWN PERIL*****

Morwenna talks to him while he’s unable to lift his eyelids about how much she loved him all those years ago – and we see glimpses into her past with Carrick and how cute they were together. We believe this man in bed is Carrick, and so does she, and she talks to him about how much she still loves him… maybe three times. All of a sudden, then, we find out that he’s not actually Carrick but his older brother Thoren who had amnesia because of his injuries and the attack that left him nearly dead? WHAT? And she’s suddenly way in love with him though they’ve only had one conversation and sex? What? It’s all so sudden and… really unrealistic. I mean, who finds herself in love with the brother of a man she thought she was in love with and, in truth, knows almost nothing about? I would be repulsed that I’d had sex with him not knowing at all who he is, not suddenly in love with him.

*****END OF BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG SPOILER ALERT*****

Morwenna isn’t really the strong woman Jackson tries to tell us. She isn’t headstrong or slow to fall in love again. Her behavior is strange and erratic – there’s a dramatic contrast between what her actions tell us and what Jackson tells us. Not that it matters, because most of the time we don’t get to focus on her romantic behavior. In fact, there was very little romance altogether. I was sorely disappointed. After reading the much more romantic Impostress (the book that occurs first in this ‘series’ of related books) this book was second-rate. In the end, this book got a less than average rating because it wasn’t a romance book. Really. There was like, no romance. I kid you not. The only redeeming factors were that I liked the one romantic conversation they did have (ONE) and liked the suspense.

Overall Rating: C –

"Sexy"ness Rating: Mildly Hot.

Bottom Line: This book is average, and was a good read – but it wasn’t a romance. Its plot is a bit confusing, though certainly suspenseful. There are some creepy moments that I wasn’t so fond of. The romance was NOT well developed at all, however.

Another new author I tried out. Luckily it was an audio book so I finished it. If I would have read it, I would have thrown it away. Liked that it was a period novel with a somewhat strong female lead, but come on! This beat up guy is found on the property her brother has given her to rule and it could be her ex who abandoned her for his brother's wife. He is unconscious but then plays dead to get information. She cannot figure out if this is her ex or not. Even after he is cleaned up. Even after he talks to her. Even after they spend a night of passion together. And then to be so in love after one night together. Unbelievable! I have another book by the same author and maybe it will be better. Oh and there was a mystery but it was too easy to figure out. You know who and why beat up this mystery man and why by the third chapter.

Warning: Contains Spoilers!

I've read better suspense from Lisa Jackson. This was a really difficult story to finish. The first half especially, was boring and draggy. "Carrick" was unconscious for most of the story. When he finally awakes, Morwenna falls right into bed with him? Uhm, what the flying flock of chickens is that? Made zero sense. They only had that one night of passion scene together and nothing else. How did love even blossom for them? I don't know. This story lacks a lot. The second half was interesting because the suspense of who the killer was kept me reading to the end. Could have been a better story but at least I finally finished it.

The premise was interesting and the writing was decent, but some of the scenes, especially from the Redeemer's POV, were kind of repetitive and probably could have been trimmed or cut altogether. I'm also trying to figure out exactly why this is a romance--the first book in the trilogy had the two characters relating to each other through sex, but in this one there's practically no relating, sexual or otherwise, whatsoever.

Not bad enough for worst shelf, but close. Lame characters, lamer plot, so slow moving, watching snails race would be faster.

This was the oddest mix of historical thriller and romance – and most of it kind of worked for me. The setting felt 'realistic' enough that I wasn't questioning the time period constantly, although it was in no way historically accurate. The characters might have rushes on the floor, but the general lifestyle of everyone at the castle is way, way off. It's closer to being a historical fantasy than actual history, and the 'fantasy' elements made it easier to deal with the inaccuracies.

Admittedly the romance was essentially non existent in this, unless we're saying this counts as being in the romance genre just because of the constant sexual descriptions. The characters don't really love each other, they barely know who the other is, and their closeness has more to do with their own struggles than anything else. This works much better as a really easy to read mystery/thriller.

The really weird sex obsessed interludes from different men definitely wasn't my thing, though. Scenes swung between being hilarious (I feel like men must get muscle strain with every erection if 'tightening' is an accurate description) and deeply disturbing. On the one hand the perspective of the 'Redeemer' did add tension and a feeling of horror, but on the other the priest being obsessed with sex felt sad and a bit gross. Plus, everyone kept describing the heroine as sexy only because of her 'innocence' which is pretty terrible.

OMG this book is so bad. every possible trope. Every single man who sees her is overcome with lust. she's beautiful and running a castle by herself and she isn't trusted. she sleeps with broken dude immediately even though she doesn't know who he is even though she thinks she slept with him a year or so ago and got preggers. how can she go through the whole book not recognizing or knowing she doesn't know him? priests who flail themselves. hermit monk's. wrist old ladies who practice witchcraft.

The best part of this book was definitely the depictions of castle life which felt well-researched and evocative of the time period.

Unfortunately a lot of this book was very random sex.

Is it possible to have a convincing love story wherein one party spends more than half of the book unconscious, and their initial get-together was on some bizarre misapprehensions? Well, this answers the age-old question.

Odds of staying together if they didn't live in a romance novel: 5/10

This sounded very interesting from the back summary but once reading it was hard to get into, and sometimes very boring. It picked up closed to the end but still I think it’s a bit of a drag but it’s not bad.

Bintang 3
Medieval Trilogy #2.

Sebuah kisah yg komplit menurutku.

I always thoughts that Lisa Jackson wrote contemporary thrillers so it was with some surprise I heard of a medieval mystery. Medieval is my favourite period in history so when A. offered to lend it to me I couldn't let the opportunity pass me by.

I quite liked the the idea behind it: a wounded and unrecognisable man is found unconscious at the castle gates. The ring he wears makes everyone think he may be Carrick de Wybren, a man known to have abandoned Morwenna - the lady of the castle - after seducing her and believed to have set the fire that murdered his own family.
At the same time another assassin lurks in the shadows spying and planning other murderers.

We are gradually made aware of the story behind each of the characters at the same time the wounded man's health improves and he starts to question his identity and the identity the others give him. He has to comje to terms with the fact he may have done some terrible actions...

However I was very disappointed that right in the middle of all this emotional turmoil the author makes Morwenna and "Carrick" fall in lust and engage in a night of passion. That was, from my point of view, totally unnecessary to the actions and happens when Morwenna is still not sure who the stranger is. I found that unbelievable because the whole book reads like a mystery - who killed Carrick's family?, who is the wounded man? who is killing now? - and suddenly we have some hot sex scenes thrown in. The romance could have been a bonus but this way it ruined the story for me.

I was hopping the final chapters would redeem it some how with the mysteries being solved but it didn't happen. The killer was a surprise but again the romance bits grated on my nerves. New characters are added just because there has to be closure regarding past events and once again I couldn't see why the two main characters should have feelings for each other. Can't get into the reasons for that because it would be a spoiler but I would love to discuss this one with someone who has already read it.

I would have given this one a B if it had just been a mystery but this way it falls into the C category.

I shouldn't probably admit it but I sometimes enjoy books that are not really good. The medieval trilogy by Lisa Jackson is one of these examples. But after having read "Impostress" I knew what to expect from "Temptress". The historical setting is just an excuse and a nice location, the characters are driven by sexual desires, the vocabulary used is repetitive and the plot no better that in fanfiction written for pleasure by amateur authors. I think one should expect something more substantial and interesting from a published writer, but it looks like the requirements for romance writers are to write hot stuff with a bit suspense put in for a good measure. In the end it really doesn't matter who the Redeemer is or whether the battered man is Carrick or not, but that the lady of the keep got finally laid by her "guest". The sex scene is so absurd that is really funny.

I thought this book was never going to end. I often download books to listen to as I fold laundry or walk. This is a fabulous way to learn about new authors. Since I have listened to and enjoyed several of Lisa Jackson's books, I anticipated a pleasant experience.

I wouldn't go so far as to say this book was bad, but rather predictable and not her usual genre. Maybe it was an earlier story she wrote and published later. It is not a typical Lisa Jackson book.

Seru. Gak cuma cinta-cintaan tapi juga ada thrillernya. Pembaca dituntun untuk menuduh dan menerka satu-satu tokohnya sampai akhirnya baru ketauan pelaku sebenernya. Bener-bener akhirnya, karena kalo baca di awal gak bakal nyangka kalo ternyata memang dia orangnya.
Mungkin saya lagi gak mood baca novel model mikir begini kali ya, jadi cuma bintang 3 aja, karena sempet bosen banget bacanya ._.

I buy it because i interesting on the synopsis.
Wheww, amaze me :)
tapi karakter Morwenna of Calon memang terkesan sedikit menyebalkan. Sangat keras kepala.

The kind of book where everyone's name possesses a "Y." Half, or more, of the punctuation is a question mark. The characters are flat. The story was meh (and purposely frustrating...as if the author wanted the reader so confused they would never suspect the culprit). Oh, and EVERYONE loves the heroine.

LJ is back... lebih suka buku kedua ini ketimbang buku pertamanya. meskipun HR tapi suspense-nya oke, abis semua orang punya motif jadi tersangka. kecele deh gw. baru beberapa bab terakhir ketebak siapa sang Penebus sebenarnya. yah karena romance-nya kurang masuk akal menurut gw jadi cuma bintang tiga aja.

Okay, I guess now I can officially stop saying I'm not a fan of historical romance. school gurl sigh. .. there was a nice lil twist in the story just when you think you got it all figured out.. smh.. no doubt good read, I was late to work because I started the book too late thinking I was going to be able to read just a few chapters, I refused to sleep until I was finished..
