The sequel to Mage Heart continues the story of young Renaissance wizard Dion, who returns to her cherished homeland of Moria to find it overrun with marauding Witch Hunters, the demon Fire Angels, and political intrigues. Reprint.
I write fantasy with strong women characters. I’ve published 7 books as me – Mage Heart and the Aurealis award winners Fire Angels and Aramaya, The Three Sisters and The Melded Child. I have a queer time travel romance called A Shining Knight. I've begun a new series in a new world called Shadow in the Empire of Light. I am also publishing TTRPGs in Call of Cthulhu. My short stories have been widely anthologized, appeared in Meanjin and read on the ABC. My favourite writers are Jane Austen, Angela Carter, Sara Douglass, Janet Evanovich, and Gail Carriger.
My current life ambition is to see an erupting volcano.
I enjoy historical religious fantasy but this dragged. Nothing seemed to be happening for most of it and the interesting stuff got stuffed into the ending.
This time we are returning to Moria and Dion meets her family for the first time in about 18 years.
She was sold when she 4 years of age to Michael of Moria who wanted to confirm if girls had the brains and temperament to be a mage. Instead our Dion becomes the demonslayer of Gallias.
Dion accidentally ends up in the midst of a civil war, necromancy and a host of familial obligations.
A beautiful read, love and family, demons and horrors set in a medieval world. It remains a favorite of mine for a reason.
This is one for Mercedes Lackey fans. There is engaging dialogue, a richly-woven history for the land and a good deal of character development (especially where the main female character is concerned). In addition there is magic, which is always fun in well-written fantasy. :)
Pretty good fantasy novel -- but don't get the clan destine press ebook. It isn't proofed and it's an incredible pain in the ass to read. The writing is good, though.
