Romans is one of the few books in the New Testament that was not composed as a pastoral response to specific, localized problems. Instead this letter was written primarily to challenge and ultimately correct widespread misunderstandings about Christianity held by mid-first-century believers. Some of these beliefs are embraced even now, and the careful study of this letter to believers whom Paul had not yet met is vital to every sincere Christian.Pauls central focus in Romans is the means of obtaining salvation. Point by point, he systematically builds his case by articulating who needs salvation and why, the role of the law, Gods response to the sin problem, resolution of the legal issues presented by sin, and the effect each has on the Christians life. This devotional commentary divides the entire text into short passages that are followed by a detailed, user-friendly exegetical explanation and practical application to everyday life.
I really enjoyed this book. For the ones that did not know what is the main theme of this book: this book is an explanation to the Paul's epistle named Romans. It's name come from the fact that this letter was designed for the Christians from Rome. However I found one paragraph that was in disagreement with The Scriptures and it was the fact that the author said that we must love the members of our church but Jesus says other thing:
Even if George R. Kinght is an Adventist I liked that he did not tried to convince the reader that his religion is the right one but instead admitted that there are many religions that believe in Jesus and just like Paul said in Romans:
It dose not matter the religion it matters in what you actually believe!
The Christian community in Roman was having issues in the mid-1st century that wasn’t unique to itself like other early churches who were written epistles in the New Testament, what the Romans received was Paul’s perfected sermon on salvation. Exploring Romans: A Devotional Commentary by George R. Knight explains how this Epistle is the clearest explanation of the salvation for Christian throughout the millennia especially during the Reformation.
Knight guides the reader through Romans in 62 segments using various translations to find the most accurate wording for the passage covered in each segment. Each lesson has Knight not only explain the passage within the context of the Romans but also in the whole Bible but also provide commentary about what the passage means to use today. Throughout the book Knight stresses the central theme of Paul’s message, the obtaining of salvation as well all the branching teachings on who needs it and why, the role of the law, and how to implement Christianity into life. Given the issues that Paul addresses two millennia ago are still around in some form or another today within the larger Christianity community, Knight makes sure the reader understands Paul response to these issues and why they are important even today.
Exploring Romans is an excellent commentary and devotional authored by George R. Knight that gives readers an in-depth understanding of Paul’s message on the plan of salvation.
