The Smart Girl's Guide to Tarot

Rate this book
HEY! SMART GIRL! YES, YOU! Are you tired of vague, new agey fortune-telling? Readings that say, maybe you'll meet Prince Charming or maybe you'll get a dog? Do you want to know the future without checking your third eye or contacting your inner goddess?
Then you need The Smart Girl's Guide to Tarot !

Every tarot tells a story. This book will tell the modern user how to read that story, using language and examples relevant to contemporary life. Tarot can provide a glimpse into the future and help to clarify one's choices. Just like therapy, but a lot cheaper. The Smart Girl's Guide to Tarot provides a sharp, funny, fresh update of those old, stuffy, mystical tarot guides, unmuddling the meaning of the tarot for the general reader, and making readings more fun, diverting, and accurate.

The Smart Girl's Guide not only clarifies the archaic meanings of the cards, but it instructs the modern reader in how to interpret them, allowing her to be her own mystic--- because, let's face it, who knows your twisted psyche better than you?

Cute, a little heteronormative for my taste but it made me curious about tarot. Currently considering finding myself a deck and dicking around with it. Potential tarot party in my future..?

Being a lover of snark, I had high hopes for this book, as many Tarot books read dry and well, snoozeworthy. After a few chapters it became apparent that he book itself was focused on using the Tarot in relationship issues, in which it certainly excels. However, it can be used for so much more, something not touched upon.

This might be a good “getting your feet wet” book for someone who was casually interested in Tarot. For the more experienced reader, it would be more of a novelty item than a useful tool.

This book was amusingly written. I'd say it makes a good supplement to books about tarot, but it shouldn't be the only one. It's best used to decipher the meanings of individual cards rather than learning different layouts. The author primarily draws upon her own experience to describe what each card means, but she will include the Waite interpretation for those cards where he had something different to say.

Pretty easy to read, common vernacular that is typically pretty clear and if the author doesn't know, she'll tell you and give you another example that will help you understand in your own way.

Does a good job of bringing tarot into the 21st century with her examples, meanings, anecdotes and overall style.

Good read, glad I bought it.

Fun read that introduces tarot to the 21st century woman. It provides an interpretation of each card and several example reads. Very easy to understand and you will want to read it in one sitting.
