I enjoyed this novel at the bare minimum, enough to read the rest of them. I am entertained perhaps by how poor the writing is. The mystery and the crime fighting is good, but this is just sad writing; it got published though so there is that accomplishment going for it.
These books feel as though the author wrote about crime proceedings and protocol by her own imaginations of what it is supposed to be like. There is a glaring lack of research into how things are actually done; the phraseology was abysmal. The dialogue that occurs between law-enforcement and civilians was appalling; there was no professionalism, no tact, and a huge infringement on the delicate nature of active investigations. I fail to recall at any time the phrase "person of interest" being used, and instead the author always jumps right to "suspect" or "killer". It was ridiculous. Caitlin Dare should not be an FBI agent.
She does seem to lack the understanding of rules and is much happier to go about making her own as she goes along. The only reason things work out in the end is by the author's own direction to make it so. It's infuriating.
Another gripe I have with these books is that the main antagonist; yes the "Killer", all seem to be having gone through some psychotic break, in order to justify killing their victims, many of whom are women who find themselves on their own. If the story had women teaming up all the time, then there wouldn't be any plot; which may have been a good thing as to not allow these dull killings to take place.
Now perhaps if there was a way for the "killer" to take down two victims at once, that would be interesting and up the stakes for our heros to crack the case as soon as possible!
My final grievance with these stories is that we really don't get much resolution after the capture of the bad guy, and it is so much more satisfying to be able to know what happens. Readers are committing themselves this far into the book, the author may as well grant readers that satisfaction of a well wrapped up case. I digress, I don't feel like this author has the wherewithal to concoct a satisfying ending, as there isn't a lot of effort put into the research of these books in the first place.
These kinds of crime-solving stories are what separate the amateurs from the professionals.
It seems I am beginning a year of Mystery Crime Solving Thrillers thanks to the recommends of my Hoopla account attached to my library.
Caitlin seems to have a chip on her shoulder about being pushed out of her previous position even though she landed on her feet in her own specialised railway investigation team. It all seems a bit unlikely that a serial killer who is trying to help people make the right decision knows where all the junctions are despite the railway not having a map showing their positions as they fell out with the schizo alcoholic who was mapping them. After running round checking leads that go nowhere Caitlin goes off on her own and stumbles on the killer who is really doing it because he likes killing people (who'd have thought it) and rescues his latest victim by almost joining her. I've said it all along, why don't they have lanyards on guns to stop them getting dropped in fights. Not brilliant but readable and will probably get better as the series progresses.
3.5 stars. Very typical and predictable storyline. Despite that, the premise was a little different. Creep is killing people for his own twisted reasons. New partners rub each other the wrong way but work together to solve it. Accuses wrong person. Accuses another wrong person. Girl goes off on her own when she thinks she knows where the creep is. An unlikely battle ensues where girl takes on big tough guy. Partner comes to the rescue in the nick of time. That is the story, and if you haven't read that one before, then I'm sorry I gave it away.
This book was okay. I haven't read anything else by this author, but she seems, in my opinion, like someone who could improve over time. The main character, Caitlin, seems to be a real hot head. She is right, case closed! But 3 people were arrested before the real killer was caught. She seems very impulsive, and needs her partner, Nathan, to keep her calm and out of trouble. I probably would not read any more of her books, but that is my opinion, and others may like this book.
Special agent Caitlin Dare is working in a newly formed team to investigate crimes on trains or on the property of a rail company. Two bodies are found in quick succession placed on the rails and it is up to Caitlin and her working partner Nathan, to find the killer, but he is not done yet. Caitlin is also still haunted by the disappearance of her sister. I really enjoyed this book and was almost sorry when it came to an end.
I’ve read a variety of books, I think I might enjoy, I found nothing to enjoy in this particular book. It has written in it a very angry woman, who is obtuse, likes to blame other people and rightly deserves some of the things that come her way. She expects everyone to get on with her or they have ‘issues’ . This book is so full of nonsense there is no enjoyment at all, this hard bitter character has sucked this book dry.
This is book 2 in the Caitlin Dare FBI series. I am finding that the theme of the story seems to run the same in each book. Caitlin and her partner are tracking a serial killer and don't seem to have any real viable leads. Toward the end of the book the case seems to break and Caitlin goes off on her own to investigate. Without giving spoilers the same thing happens in this book as the first. Caitlin's partner has to swoop in and save her at the last minute.
Caitlin and her partner investigate a series of murders where bodies are left on railway tracks. The two partners are still feeling their way in this partnership and under pressure to solve thing quickly. Thrilling to watch them piece together the clues to find a powerful man’s daughter. I look forward to the next book.
Almost a 4 but the story is a little thin. I do like to listen to how the come up with clues and figure out who is the doer of the crimes. Hope the Uncle Josh and finding her sister's abductor thing gets over soon, especially the Uncle Josh part. He reminds me of a hornets nest and Caitlin is poking it - never a good outcome.
Come Find Me is a story full of action, fast-paced, and with twists and turns that left me rooting for more! It has a breathtaking ending that promises many interesting reads in the near future. I thank the author for the ARC.
Book 2 of the Caitlin Dare thriller series. This one was super good and kept me on edge making me want more. It was a super fast read and read it in one sitting. I’ll definitely be reading book 3 soon!
This is a good quick read by, when compared with other authors in this genre, it is lacking authenticity. The way Nathan and Caitlin interact seems forced and the police procedural parts are bizarre.
I loved this book, kept me turning pages until it was finished. A psychology thriller with twists and turns keeping the reader guessing until close to the end. Well worth a read.
I liked reading the second book in this series. It was interesting to see how Caitlin and Nathan had settled down in their working relationship. I liked how the twists showed the different skills that the two of them had, were vital to the solving of the case.
this was such a scary story I actually had a dream I was a victim of this crazy man and woke up shaking with fear! now that's a well written believable story! I read mystery and thrillers all the but its not often I react so pr ofoundly!
Solving the case is interesting. Constantly having threats and worries that two people need to work around the clock or the team will be disbanded seems off. Editing for American phrases vs British ones would be an easy fix and would eliminate some dissonance.
This was a decent read, and kept my interest long enough to finish and maybe read its sequel. Perhaps the characters will become more fleshed out;willing to try.
While the writing and character profile may not be excellent, the story had enough twists and turns to keep me listening and wanting to read the next one!
Interesting story. I like the setting of the train. The main characters had to learn to communicate and get along. I enjoy watching characters work through their differences.
Kinda repetitive. Someone gets kidnapped, gets killed and a body is found and repeat. Till one victim was let go unscathed. Epic ending so intense I couldn't read it fast enough.
