I was born in Leicester, England, and lived in our cobbler’s shop with my parents and sister. It was an old house and most definitely haunted, but I didn’t find out until I left that my great uncle had hung himself in the living room! But I think our ghost might have been older than that. It was built on the site of the old Roman cemetery, and the land had been constantly inhabited, being in the centre of town. Then, when the council bought the house from us to build a road, my grandfather retired and my father went and worked for the Post Office. My mother was a sample machinist; that is, she worked with designers on the prototypes (models or samples) of garments. So I was very well dressed! We bought a relatively modern house in the country, and my mother was blissfully happy. It’s all very well living in a large old house, but it’s a dreadful task to keep it clean and warm!
My mother's side of the family are Romany gypsies, although sadly we haven't any of the old trailers that are so astonishingly beautiful. I was taught to read the Tarot cards, and I usually use two packs; the Rider pack for simple readings and the Crowley Thoth pack for the complex stuff. I've always had an interest in the paranormal and it's been a delight to be able to put some of this into my novels.
I honestly dont know how I felt about this book. I loved every other book in the series, felt some kind of connection of affection for the characters, but not as much during this one. I was surprised to find myself actually uncomfortable a bit with the sex at parts in this book, and I am not a prude in the slightest, I read plenty of erotic romance, I guess it was just the context. I appreciate that Ashley was supposed to have grown up and changed but it bugged me that she didnt even attempt to make amends with her older sister or try to stop her twin from at least some of her craziness but instead participated. I also didnt get her running to dad. Unfortunately my least favorite of the series, especially since it was the last book. Worth reading to wrap up the series though.
I thought this was the weakest book out of the four of them. Connolly did a great job of making Ashley a bitch of an antagonist in Sunfire, it was a little hard to buy her as a heroine, especially as her entire redemption occurred off-screen. I will say that every time I had a 'but why' question, Connolly invariably answered it within a page or two. I think, when it comes down to it, you could pick up this series at any of the four books, but Sunfire is the strongest one as the pacing problems seen in the other books is especially noticeable in Thunderfire. In addition, while the heroines are all different types of characters, the heroes of Pure Wildfire are very similar and there is little to Chris that makes him stand out from the pack.
I wasn't originally too excited about reading this book because I didn't care much for Ashley's character in the previous stories. WRONG. The author really made me feel her pain. All of the books are good (great conflicts, well-developed characters and romances, hot love scenes, cool shape-shifters without creepy animal sex), but I think I liked this one best. I sometimes have a hard time with a beloved series ending (hate to say good-bye), but this one left me satisfied and ready to start a new series by this author. Note: there are couple of ménage scenes early on.
