Lost Fae #2

Fallen Queen

Rate this book
Length: 11 hrs and 35 mins.

It's time for me to reclaim my memories... and my throne.

My twin brother, Faer, wants to see me either dead or married to the sea prince and dragged into the deep. He doesn't care which, as long I lose my claim on our throne. But I can't abandon our people to his cruelty.

At least I have three of the best knights in the four Fae kingdoms on my side: Azrael, the charming prince who hates to love me.

Duncan, the grouchy warrior who loves to hate me.

And Tiron, my true friend-who has his own secrets that just might drown us. Despite the dark, tangled threads that bind these princes to me-threads that I don't even remember-can we save the Four Kingdoms?

I gambled and lost them-and a kingdom-once before. This time, I have to win. Because if I break their hearts again, or if they break mine, the four of us will all disappear under the waves forever.

When you're a Fae princess, you never have to choose.

I freaking love this series so much! The twists and turns, the world-building, the characters, the plot...I love all of it!

In this second book, Alisa still doesn’t have her memories back, but that doesn’t deter her from being a strong and amazing heroine. Compared to her former scheming and manipulative self, Alisa is now less deceiving and much more caring. I love that she’s similar yet different when compared to the person she was when she still had her memories.

The romance portion of this book does not disappoint! Duncan, Azrael, and Tiran all deeply care for her despite all the lies, secrets, and feelings. This book also largely revolves around another male character, Raile. I love Raile the most, but the other guys are all equally amazing.

The ending though...I desperately want the next book to come out ASAP.

I definitely recommend this series to everyone and anyone who loves fantasy romance!

I just… *shakes head* I’m really not sold on this series at all. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Alisa seems like she’s bipolar because you’re constantly flip flopping between who she is now (without her memories) and who she was before (through flashbacks of the other characters). Sometimes they even seem to bleed together in the present which really throws me even more. I don’t think they’re such different people at their core, but I think their overall values are a bit different. Also the way they speak to people. So it gets blundered up quickly when present Alisa starts taking like past Alisa.

Also some of the things these characters say and do just make no sense based on the personalities the author builds them up with. It constantly makes me go “what?” 🤔

I’m seriously only sticking with this series because there are parts where I’m totally enthralled and want to know what happens next. But some other parts are so hard to get through that I have to take breaks between chapters before I force myself to go back.

Also WTF happened at the end there?? I still can’t wrap my mind around how she managed to get past her father’s enchantment long enough to claim all the guys in her harem. Was it Raile’s power? Was it Tiron’s? Like…. There wasn’t any clear reason. No explanation of the enchantment breaking. Nothing. You’re just left to go “okay that happened, guess I’m just supposed to let that one slide and go with it without asking questions” 🙄🙄

While the first book was okay the second wasn't enough to keep me reading the rest of the series. Maybe it got better on the third book maybe not, I just don't have energy enough to keep going.

I do think that my younger self would enjoy this ride, but I'm not in my teens anymore. I need a little bit more, I can't really describe what, I can only tell you that I didn't find it here. But that's okay.

This book felt like a repetition of the first but in a different place with some new characters.
The plot didn't developed the way I hoped for, and I started to get frustated with every little detail so I made the decision to stop and move on. Sometimes it's the best thing that you could do. There are things that don't work for everyone, all the time, this was the case for me.
I do think that this might be a hit for a lot of people, so I wish you the best journey possible.

This fantasy romance picks up where the first one left off.... well, almost. It literally starts with a mild flashback, but it's an important one - and it lends depth and some answers to the diabolical mystery that is Alisa's brother.

The drive to regain her memories pushes this narrative forward, though there is a part of me that almost wishes she wouldn't.... that Alisa is a more rounded princess without the dust and pain of her past. It's not true, obviously, but seeing her through the eyes of her men, and with flashbacks, it makes you almost wonder. This version of Alisa, seeped in the human environment, is different - less cold and manipulative than her previous soul. Is this her real face? Does it matter?

All in all, this is a great addition to this growing series - one that tacks a few answers onto the intrigue and entices the readers to keep going, especially with THAT ending.

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

I thought book one was totally fantastic but this one just may top that. Alisa still doesn't have her memories back but that does not stop her from trying to figure out her survival as well as how to take the thrown from her horrid twin brother. There are lots of obstacles thrown into her path but she always manages to navigate them in a way that benefits her cause thanks to her determination to save her people. Makes for a fast paced action packed read that will keep you hooked until the very last page. A total must read. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.

Alisa and her guys are on their way to try to restore her memories, but the Sea King has some plans, and the guys have their own secrets. I’m loving Alisa’s fierceness and seeing her fight for what she wants. Raile is kind of a jerk, but also sweet in his own way. Tiron- oh boy, can’t wait to see how that all plays out in the next book, Azrael and Duncan - I really liked learning more about Alisa’s past with Duncan. It’s late, but I’m definitely going to need to download book 3 right away, after that ending :)

Absolutely fantastic. Lots of action, danger and suspense. Having a dangerous twin brother is difficult to deal with. The Queen’s main concern are her people. Impossible but even better than the last book.

Amazing

I loved this book. I loved the backstory and going chapter by chapter with a different point of view. Twists and turns around every corner and of course the cliffhanger making me get the next book now!

Another book by May Dawson that I couldn't put down!

In this book, we continue the story of Alisa and her guys. They need to figure out a way for Alisa to become Queen without losing anything else. But things aren't easy. There are so many plot twists, that the book kept me on edge from page 1!

What a great follow up from the Wandering Queen, and May Dawson does a great job of continuing the Lose Fae series with, in my opinion with an even better read. I do not know how that happened because I was a big fan of Wandering Queen.

I always enjoy when the characters grow with the books, as it does here. They are coming together and working better as a team. Working more in union and helping the story along more. The plot flows fast, the characters are evolving as each book seems to go along.

I cannot wait to see where these characters and plot lead us. I need more!!!

If you haven't read the previous book in this series, STOP, go back and read it first. This book begins where that one left off.

In the prologue we get to see what was happening before Alisa woke in the human realm. Her father's wishes and Faer's changing personality. This is followed throughout this book with Duncan recalling their relationship much the same as Azrael did in the last book.

At the end of the last book, Alisa escorted by Azrael, Duncan and Tiron sneak away from Faer to go to the Cursed Caves. She needs her memories back sooner rather than later.

After helping a village with some monsters that escaped from the Rift, they continue their journey to the caves. They are hoping to get to them before anyone in the Spring court realizes they're passing through. Unfortunately, that is not the case as they are stopped almost permanently.

Rauna, Arlen and Lake are spring court knights and it's Arlen who recognizes Alisa and Rauna orders them be seized. It's Azrael who calls out Rauna, accusing her of staging a coup against her father Turin. A restless peace ensues, and they agree to stay the night at the Keep where they can speak with Fenig and the Delphin.

Alisa does get to see her memories about the key to Azrael's court and she's heartbroken to realize she did in fact give the key to her father Herrick. In the aftermath of this Azrael's nightmares return and Alisa has to face both him and Duncan with her guilt. This is interrupted by the entrance of a shadow fae, an assassin.

With Tiron not only injured but also poisoned battling the shadows, we get to see his past through nightmares. Meeting Peron and Dala who seem to be very important in Tiron's life. Only Azrael and Duncan will continue on with Alisa to the caves. She is their hope for defeating the Shadow Man and his shadows, once she has her memories.

The Shadow man himself shows just before the caves, and Alisa runs in to get her memories so they can defeat him. Once there she discovers an uncomfortable truth, she took her own memories and didn't defeat past her to get them back. She did however realize she doesn't need the past to defeat the present.

We know something is up with Faer, but we still don't know what that is. Then there is the Raile problem is he friend or foe? Faer still wants them wed and Raile still seems to care for her even though she's now chained in the brig on his ship. It's Raile who clarifies some of her past. It seems if she only marries one man she loses the throne, but if she marries multiple she becomes High Queen. Herrick wants Faer on the throne and there is still the issue of Faer turning from a loving brother to one who hates her.

I very much love the way this story is unfolding. There is still much to be resolved but the ending of this one truly a surprise. I'm already reading the next book.

In this second book, we pick up right where book one leaves us. Alisa still doesn’t have her memories back, but she is just as determined to have them revealed. More truths come out about her past though it is drip-fed to us throughout the book. We still get an insight as to how academy life was for 3/4 people with the flashbacks every few chapters. Also, Raine makes a more solid appearance in this book, and not all is what it seems with him!

Despite not knowing most of her life and not knowing who to trust, Alisa continues to be a strong and amazing heroine. You get a feeling that she was very much for the scheming and loved to manipulate before, but now she is less deceiving and much more thoughtful to those around her and her kingdom. She is full of sass and has a brilliant banter factor that I never get tired of. The way that she and the guys interact is positively gold and one of my favorite parts of this series.

The romance situation in this book does not disappoint! Duncan, Azrael, and Tiran all care for her deeply- no matter how much they protest- and can start to see the good side of Alise, rather than just the lies, deceit, and distrust. Again, Raile becomes a key figure in this book and he certainly is a puzzle piece that slots in perfectly.

The twists and turns are out of this world! I must admit to not seeing where some of those reveals came from and was absolutely shocked. The world-building, the characters, the plot, etc. is all fantastic and it all melds together so well. I love all of it, and can not wait for book 3!

This second book is Great !
I guess if it was more mainstream (not RH) you would see it all over booktok/bookstagram…
The world building is better, the story is great.
Alisa still hasn’t recovered her memories, and you still hold your breath to find out what really happened.
Throughout the book, “old Alisa” as she is referred to, before losing her memories, is seen as scheming, untrustworthy, uncaring… I don’t really see that, maybe she kept some secrets, but nothing of the memories shared by the men are showing a “bad Alisa”. So, I don’t really get the scare she and Duncan have of “old Alisa” – Anyways, I love “new Alissa” all the same even if at times she’s a bit annoying.
I love the Sea King. Raile is by far my favorite. Is it is maturity, or that we never know what he thinks/ schemes, or even why he want to marry her so badly, I don’t know, but it’s so nice reading more with him.. and he is so good with grand gestures <3

The spice scenes are hot and well written, the chemistry between partners is fiery – but always FM.

Finally, Raile got the justice he deserves.

If you didn't notice already- personally, Raile has unexpectedly sneaked himself to claim the top spot out of Alisa's males. I absolutely loved when Alisa was able to enter his world, we got to see him in a different light. His ruling as a King was something that I admired; he values his people and his kingdom. It was striking to see him like that compared to the 1st book especially from Alisa's POV.

Anyway, back to Alisa. She is getting closer to uncovering her memories with emphasis on the closer. There is still many obstacles in her way that will test her and challenge her to truly make her a worthy queen to rule the kingdoms in the future. All the while, she meets new-old people in this world that she once used to know and her changed character from Old Alisa to New Alisa.

Duncan being the gruff he is, continues to be a gruff- as per usual. Tiron on the otherhand, is the direct contrast- he is the silly and funny whereas, Azrael continues to be the dad of the group.

ups and downs

3.5 for me. I didn’t know whether to make it 3 or 4 stars but the ending totally made me go “whoa”.

So it was a little boring for me because it’s not ALL about Alisa anymore. More people have issues and they’re getting the spotlight. Which is great, Alisa makes this the most exciting for me and so like a goldfish, my mind tends to wander when other people are adding to the story. Otherwise I really like the way the author wove everything. Her guys have become even cooler.

Alisa is the heroine who messed up and is getting a second chance. She wasn’t TERRIBLE but she did mess up, and that’s kinda cool to see in a heroine. She’s not perfect.

The ending had me on my seat. The sex always makes me laugh in shock because everything’s so like “medieval Fae coolness” and then suddenly you’ve got every crass word possibly when the canoodling happens. I love it lol.

A recommended.

Picks up straight after the previous book and the action just keeps, coming.
Fantastic world building with wonderful characters and a storey line with so many twists and turns some of which you just don’t seem coming no matter how clever you are or how well you know May's writing.
Alisa is everything you want in a female M/C - sassy, snarky and independent but with a certain vulnerability and a weakness for 3 scrumptious knights!
Azrael- smooth like the best hot chocolate
Duncan - well who doesn’t love a bit of grouch?
Tiron - All isn’t what it seems here and i do hope he doesn’t break Alisa's heart in the process of freeing his people
This is a brilliant storey spanning 2 worlds, extremely well written, Captivating and totally engrossing so be warned you will definitely lose a few hours of your day once you start reading this.

A lot of growth and a stinging cliffhanger!

May Dawson could easily be one of my favorite authors! I haven't yet picked up a series of hers that I haven't absolutely loved.

Getting lost in the twisted world of fae with Alisa and the guys was a real whirlwind. There is so much history and it is hard to tell who are really the heroes and who are the villains. I do feel Alisa settled into herself much more in this installment. She's really blooming into the powerhouse we suspect she can be. As are the relationships and romance.

***(Maybe spoiler ahead)***
As contrary as this may seem I feel like her relationship with Azrael is actually the weakest. There is a lot of depth in Duncan, Tiron, and Raille - their characters and their interactions with Alisa. Az actually feels rather flat in comparison.

I'm bummed about that cliffy but look forward to more!

Better than Book 1

Editing: 2.5 stars
Characters: 3 stars
Storyline: 3 stars

Still wouldn’t recommend this even though there’s some great one liners in here and a wonderful touching scene between Duncan and Alisa that I highlighted. Why?

The timeline is inconsistent. There’s plot holes. So many. So many things that don’t make sense are explained after the fact, it’s not a pleasant reading experience.

The ending. What??? How can Alisa marry Duncan and Az when one isn’t even there, neither said vows, and the magic again isn’t explained. Tiron has now ticked me off and I’ll bet $100 that Alisa just forgives him and he doesn’t grovel for his betrayal even knowing how much she loves Az and Duncan. I’m reading the next bc I have to see if I’m correct and if not I’ll update my review.

Continuing the story from Wandering Queen immediately, it would be best to read this as a continuation rather than a stand-alone story. It won't make as much sense without the background of Book 1. Its structure is non-linear, with multiple POV characters, the narrative flitting between the present and various points and viewpoints in the past, so you need to pay close attention. We learn the origin of Duncan's hatred for Alisa 6 years ago. Now they are escaping from Faer and Raile, heading for the Cursed Cave to restore Alisa's lost memories. There is a huge amount of relationship tension among Alisa, Duncan, Azrael, Raile, and Tiron. There are many plot twists as new information and truths are revealed.

Loved this book!

Absolutely loved this book. Alisa was kick ass in this book. I felt bad for Raile in this book because of all the secrets and plotting him and old Alisa did together he can’t share any of it with the now Alisa. He’s always saving her and yet she’s always pushing him away. Just like all her other men. Finally at the end there is no more pushing away of her men. Finally something works out for Alisa. And her brother!? Is he still in there somewhere? I hope. Alisa was strong before but with her bonds with her men she’ll be even stronger. If she could defeat the shadow man alone I can’t wait to see what she can do with her men by her side. The war for the throne is on!!!

I loved this second book to the series! I was so glad to see after their pasts and all that they have overcome that they guys and Alisa finally got answers to some of their past and about her twin brother Faer. The journey they had to endure it showed that they still cared for each other even without Alisa's memories being restored. Tiron may have had a hidden agenda but I loved how it turned out. The ending was really good. Leaving you wanting more. You will love this book because it draws you in with their story, their witt, sarcasm, protectiveness, and sheer devotion. Even Raile will surprise you. I highly recommend this book and cant wait to see how their story progresses in the next book!

This is a must read. The characters are interesting and there were many different twists in the story that make absolute sense and just make the story more interesting…the characters more loveable. It was nice to finally find out how she ended up where she was when the first book started. One of the characters we saw briefly in the first book was someone that I thought was going to be a problem and whom we couldn’t trust. Being able to see things from his point of view opened up his character and personality making him someone to be admired. Everyone was trying to outwit the other person, secret agendas, tender moments, relationships you can envy…if this is what you would like to experience in a book then Fallen Queen by May Dawson is the one for you.

I am pleasantly surprised!

To be fair, I did skip the flashbacks, simply because I don't care for them, so I guess my review is very limited- but I did enjoy reading the "present" chapters!
I also have to mention that I almost skipped the whole Raile part, because I don't like him yet, but I do hope that my opinion will change.
This book was a bit more on the frustrating side because a lot of people took away Alisa's own free will and choice and I HATE when that happens

I am a bit confused about the end - but I do hope that the next book will change that.

Hooked!

So many twists and turns, I haven’t been able to stop reading. I started the first book yesterday, and am about to start the third tonight! I can’t go to sleep before at least finding out what happens next. Hopefully, I can get a few hours of sleep, but the way this author writes… it’s certain going to be a challenge! I feel like I know and have grown fond of Alisa, Duncan, Az, Tiron, and, finally, Riale! I don’t want to say anymore, because I wouldn’t want to spoil anything that has happened to this point. Trust me when I tell you that this is definitely an ADULT story, and far from the “YA” books. I enjoy some of those, but this is on a whole new level and written wonderfully!!!

This second book in the series is even more fantastic than the first! It’s definitely my new favorite series from Ms. Dawson. This story is packed with constant action, suspense, danger, and many twists, turns, and surprises to keep you turning the pages. The main FMC, Alisa, is really coming into her character becoming more confident in herself, her companions, and her abilities in spite of her forgotten memories. I love the challenges she faces and how she handles herself overall. I also really enjoyed her interactions with Raile and learning more about him. I loved his character and I can not wait to see what comes in the next book with the two of them. Duncan, Tiron, and Az are all still fabulous and trying to protect Alisa, save their kingdoms, dethrone Fraer, and survive it all. Secrets, lies, betrayals, and revelations run amok and there’s quite a shocking turn of events towards the end that will lead in to the next installment. Even knowing the story had ended, I was still trying to flip the pages for more. This is one of those kinds of reads that has so much happening and everything moving so fast, it will leave you breathless at the end.

Fallen Queen is the second book in the Lost Fae series and like the first I really enjoyed it. We start to find out more about what happened between Alisa and some of her men in the past and why some of them feel the way they do about her. I actually feel sorry for Alisa, she doesn't remember anything about her past and some of the guys, especially Duncan aren't exactly forthcoming with the information they know.

The twist and turns in the story are around every corner, some I definitely didn't see coming and the ending left me with my mouth wide open. I really can't wait to read the third book in the series.

Theres no letting up in the pace from book 1 to this one. Alisa (FMC) is still trying to get back her memories to find out why she ended up in the mortal world. Only she gets some of the answers from an unexpected source. I loved the back & forth banter between Alisa & Raille. I changed my opinion of him in this book & it was great to find out more about him and his kingdom. Also it was great to go over the history that Alisa had with Duncan, Azrael and Tiron. It gave an insight into how things ended up the way they were with all of them. Book 2 surpassed the first one which was a great read in itself. That ending was knockout!! This was a bloody great read

Amazing I just love this series so much, and it keeps getting even better.

Just when you think you cant love May or her characters and more, this book comes and smacks yiu right in the heart.

I fell for these characters in book one, but I am fully obsessed after book two. I am especially thrilled that a certain Fey King turned out to be more than he appeared in book one. 😘

These is so much depth and complexity to each of these characters. I just wanted to snuggle in and not be disturbed while I read the entire book in one go.

Make sure you set aside some time to get through this one, you will not want to be interrupted.

Finished it in one day, and from the speed I’ve devoured the book it’s clear that I really liked it. The story arc is well done, and esp. Raile is a very interesting character, the chemistry between him and Alisa is palpable. Tiron with all his secrets is way more complex than I would have thought, and even Duncan wormed his way into my heart. The only one I don’t really “feel” with Alisa is her main love interest, Azrael. What I didn’t like and skimmed while reading were the flashbacks, I really was invested in the “present” story and wanted to know if and how Alisa manages to outplay Faer. The plot twists at the end caught me by surprise, and I can’t wait to see how the story continues.

“Even the blindest of squirrels runs across a nut on occasion; perhaps this is your lucky day.”

I feel like the writing did improve in this book. I didn't notice as many typos and the sentences seemed to flow better. I still feel like there were things that could have improved on, like some events didn't seem to be explained well and I found myself kind of confused on how they came to pass. We still don't know the full story of what happened to her memories, although we keep getting bits and pieces. I am still excited to see what happens, but I don't feel terribly invested in the story.

There were some good laughs though, like the one above. 😀
