3 ⭐⭐⭐ - OK decent reads
=======================

“This isn’t the only time you’ve cheated on her, is it?” It was a bad feeling he’d had since he’d arrived in Montecito. “Never mind.” He held up a hand. “Don’t tell me. I don’t want to know.”

How could he be the one to tell her Derek was a lying, cheating asshole?

Once before she had been in denial about Derek’s fidelity, had let it go, pretended it hadn’t happened, but…not this time.

“Did it ease your guilt? About screwing around on me? Watching me with another man?”

My sister won this book on goodreads and got it signed by Kelly herself. She finally read it and thought I would enjoy it. After reading the back of the book, I wasn't quite sure and figured I would get around to it. Here it is almost six months later and curiosity finally got the better of me.

Krissa and Derek are trying to get pregnant but get some news that it just isn't going to happen the traditional way. Nate has suffered really bad food poisoning and some rare side effects that have created some issues with his sight. Which for him is the worst thing possible, because he is a photographer.

Derek doesn't want to have kids by adopting or artificial insemination, because he doesn't think he could love that child because its not really his.

Nate lost his wife and child two years earlier, Krissa just wants a child so bad she'll do anything. Hence the idea that they could use Nate as a sperm donor because after all he is Derek's best friend. Well Instead of going the traditional way, Derek suggests the old fashion way. Just by that alone you already suspect trouble is a brewing.

I feel for Derek when he learns he can't father a child, but seriously going out and cheating on your wife is not the solution. I do feel Krissa was pushy, but he could have talked to her first before doing something stupid.

Nate and Krissa feel guilty and start to have feelings for each other and Derek is jealous. This book had a lot of emotional up and downs and I really enjoyed it. I was happy when Krissa finally got a back bone and stood up for herself. I do suggest picking this book up because you'll be unable to put it down. I plan to go and get more of Kelly Jamieson's books to read, and hopefully they will be as good as this one.

Interesting

Karissa wants a baby with her husband Derek however they find out he is shooting blanks. His best friend Nate comes to stay with them as he is recovering.

They suggest that he impregnate Karissa, needless to say they find out in the end that Derek is nothing but a cheater, that also had cheated with Nate's wife before she died that Derek and Lauren were going to leave their spouses to be together.

Karissa leaves Derek and eventually ends up with Nate. It would have been nice to see Derek hurt and try and fight for her but NOTHING.

I know Derek was a dirt bag, but honestly the guy just found out he couldn't have his own kids. When he asked for some space, why couldn't Krissa back off a little, give him some time and then talk to him about adoption or other options?! She just annoyed me.

Started off with angst... then some sexy... then more angst... then more sexy... then super sweet... then MASSIVE angst... and then sweet again.

Derek was seriously an asshole. I suspected in the beginning what ultimately came to be true. I don't know why. I think because I felt like someone who was selfish enough to tear away from the doctor's on his own after finding out he's sterile, not call his wife or answer her calls at all the entire day, not show up after work, then finally show up wasted at 2AM could easily be such a slimeball. Totally selfish asshole.

I admit their method of sperm donation was a little unusual. And I also suspected Derek's reasoning behind suggesting it. Well, the one that was unspoken at least. But hey, if this wasn't the method, if they'd gone the traditional route, there wouldn't be too much story. :-) And I thought that while Nate initially approached it clinically, when he realized Krissa needed gentle and more feelings, he was more than up to the task. I found it interesting that right off the bat, Krissa recognized the more giving nature of Nate's lovemaking. Between Nate already feeling attracted to Krissa and vice versa, the sex set them up to have much deeper feelings for each other than either could have imagined. They were so good together, both in and out of bed.

Like I said, the story was full of angst, from start to finish. But it was ultimately a very satisfying resolution to the story. I only wish Ms. Jamieson was a bigger fan of the epilogue. :-)

Super hot!

Story: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Trope: manage
Angst: 😱😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Super angsty and twisted original storyline. A woman and her husband agree to invite another (male) friend into their bedroom to help her get pregnant. The husbands secrets and lies unfold, pushing the wife and lover closer together. Never read anything like this and didn't expect to like it so much. Definitely enjoying this author and will be looking at her other books.

Ok, this is the kind of book that I couldn't put down but wished I would put down. Here's the thing - Derek had absolutely NO redeeming qualities. He was a first degree a**hole the entire time and Krissa put up with it for sooooooooooo long that I slowly began to hate her. I wanted to stop reading so many times because I just couldn't handle her accepting his BS anymore.

Nate is an incredible character who just deserved every happiness and I wanted to want him to find that happiness with Krissa. But she was such a doormat for sooooooo long - she put up with so many flat out crappy behaviors that I began to feel she deserved to be miserable. I never felt that for Nate. In fact I fell a little bit in love with Nate and would've rated this a 2 star book if not for Nate and the incredible way his character was handled.

The writing itself is definately good. Kelly Jamieson is not my favorite author, but from what I've read of hers, I like her ability to craft a story. I wish certain things were slightly more fleshed out - near the end of this book months pass from one paragraph to the next - and I also wish other things received less time - the stuff about the best friend Cam was cute and it added to the story, but I felt like there was too much of it. But the actual stories she writes are imaginative, vivid, and simplistic. She creates a little world for the reader and I appreciate that. I am just not a huge fan of her writing style and would apprieciate it if she would flesh more out about the MCs and spend less time on the supporting players.

Overall, it's not a bad book, but it will evoke emotions that aren't exactly happy. I really couldn't stand Derek and I know the reader wasn't supposed to like him, but to see Krissa making excuses for him for over half of the book affects my opinion of her. That kind of thing really just brought the tone of the story down way too far for me. The story is good, but I will not be re-reading it and I'm the queen of re-reads.

I appear to be saying this a lot just lately... I wanted more! What has happened to delivering on the angst? You can't take us so far with a story and then suddenly decide we know enough. We need to know everything and where Derek is concerned we didn't get to find out what happened to him. Why didn't he fight, why didn't he beg for forgiveness, what happened after? I hate half a story and unfortunately that's what you get with this book... no ending, it just stops!

Definitely Recommend

This book was thought provoking and touched issues not typical in the contemporary romance genre. The author held my attention from the first page until the end. It was hard to put down.

3.75 stars. Not enough angst or discussion surrounding Derek's lying and cheating. Also, there is no follow-up on what happened to him, not that I care. It would be nice to see him miserable after what he did to Nate and Krissa.

Good story

Not what I expected, but loved the ending. Sometimes things aren't what they seem. Should you hide what you think for peace, or face it.

I wasn't sure how I felt when I began this book. But I can say that after a few chapters I was completely drawn into the story. The characters were real and by that I mean, they weren't perfect. Each had their flaws and good points, like people do in every day life. Maybe that's why I related to it so well. The feelings within me about each character is a big part of what makes a book work for me. If I can feel mad, angry, dislike, then I know the author has done their job in creating a well rounded character.

The subject is touchy, a little different. But that's why I liked it. Krissa wants a baby so much, and Derek, her husband goes along with it, but he reacts horribly every time there's a negative pregnancy test. Derek's attitude gets worse and worse. I felt bad for him the first chapter or so, but as I went on, I disliked him more and more. He's selfish and emotionally abusive, whether he or Krissa realize it. Do I wonder why she stays with him? Absolutely.

Enter Nate, an emotionally disconnected man, who's lost his wife in an accident years ago, and has now gotten sick and has bad eyesight that he's not sure he'll regain. For a man who's life is about photography, it doesn't go well with him. He comes to stay with Derek and Krissa, and knows very little about what he's coming to. The tension arises immediately when he's there because of their marital problems and Derek pulling a disappearing act all the time.

Is this story going to be for everyone? maybe, or maybe not. I enjoyed it. I like stories that are outside the normal. The author takes a subject that isn't the norm for a romance book and finds a way to make it emotional, dramatic, and amazing at the same time.

A really great story -- lots of strength in the characters and the writer is very good at giving the reader insights into the personalities of the Nate and Derek--their strengths and their weaknesses. It is a story of a marriage and a love that is lost and one that is found. It is a journey of discovery for Krissa--she comes to realize that she is NOT responsible for all the world's ills, and it is a wonderful vignette of So. Calif. suburban life--what is real and what isn't. Just a really great story. I guess I gave it such a good rating because I think it is one of the most accurate in disecting and analyzing a marriage that looks pretty good from the outside but there are lots of cracks and holes on the inside. Good fiction is often as instructive and non-fiction.

This novel is sexually explicit and has a threesome. I liked the backstory and the premise--the husband is sterile, and they ask his best friend to be a sperm donor. When they find out all the required regulatory hoops they must jump through, they decide to transfer the sperm in the traditional way--and with the husband present. There's a lot more to the story. It's more than sex. In fact, it's about love. And betrayal and standing up for yourself. It's very well written. I liked it. For those who partake of spicier reads, I recommend it.

I absolutely loved this book except for the Husband (for blaming her) The Audacity of a man to blame a woman for messing around with his 'Best Friends' wife... actually now that kind of makes me laugh because he didnt have enough brains to own up to his mistake but hey what can you do? I would read this book over and over again

I was really surprised by the amount of emotion in this book. There weren't many surprises in the plot, but I still loved this book!!! She did a really great job, an excellent job, of pulling you into the characters emotions. I was so torn up over Nate. I want to cuddle him!!

I'm going to start by saying Derek is a total ass. Can't stand him. Nate on the other hand...amazing! And Krissa, she starts out kinda powerless; she'd lost it over time with Derek without even realizing it was gone. But with time and friendship and love, she finds it again. Tre' cool!
