I had the perfect life.

A home to call my own, a bright future and two Daddies that treated me like gold. Daniel and Joel were my entire world and I loved them with everything I had to give.

I never expected that two years later Daniel would be gone forever and I would be living on the streets alone. I’ve always been impulsive and in the aftermath of Daniel’s sudden death, it was easy to run from the home we’d all shared, even if it meant leaving Joel behind. What’s not easy is living with the regret, so when I have the chance to have Joel back in my life, I jump headfirst into giving things another try, learning who he is without Daniel and fixing what was broken between us.

The only problem is that what’s really broken now is Joel.

He’s not the man I once loved. He’s quieter, sadder and a lot more willing to let me get away with pushing boundaries and being a brat. The sharp edges he was once made of have been softened and he doesn’t think he can be a good Daddy anymore. When I left him, I thought I was doing the right thing for us both, but I see now that he needed me.

Wanted me.

Loved me.

I hope he still does because all I want from my Daddy is one more try.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4 stars

One More Try is the second book in B. Ripley’s Red Door Daddies series. Both Tiernan and Joel play side roles in One More Song, and Ambrose and Hobie have small appearances here, but I think you can read this one as a standalone if you want to start with this book. This story has an interesting set up with two men who used to be a part of a triad now finding their way to work as a couple. Daniel seemed to be the one who really held the three of them together; he was the softer Daddy, the one who seemed to know just what Tiernan needed, while Joel was the one who provided most of the structure. When Daniel died, Joel and Tiernan both floundered in their grief. Ripley does a nice job setting things up here so that I could understand why Joel and Tiernan made the decisions they did, as bad as they were.

Grief is a fickle emotion. It ebbs and flows—but it never fully leaves us. B showed us this throughout the pages of this book; my heart was literally in my stomach the entire time watching Tiernan and Joel navigate their grief over losing Joel’s late husband, Daniel. I felt their heartache and devastation deep down in my soul.

Joel and Tiernan find their way back to one another after being apart for two years after losing the other love of their life, Daniel. Joel has not been coping well through his grief, and Tiernan returns to find this, and makes it his mission to help his other Daddy. I loved the realness behind their conversations; the misplaced emotions, and rawness to them redeveloping their relationship. B did an amazing job with showing the realistic side of managing grief while having a partner to lean on. I also loved HOW different Tiernan and Joel were, but how well they worked together!

This one is a story of second chances, forgiveness, and moving forward but never forgetting. It’s a story about a boy and his Daddy, them rekindling their relationship and making it theirs so that they could survive together. Their HEA is absolutely beautiful, and honestly quite moving. My only complaint is how quickly Joel and Tiernan forgot about Tiernan leaving and making mistakes that changed their relationship forever. That being said, Joel does not make things easy on Tiernan and vice versa!

I will leave you with this—this series is wholesome, love filled and the epitome of beating the odds. The next book—I’m hoping it’s Mason and Bryce, because I cannot wait to see Bryce love himself…

4.5 stars. Really touching book, with a lot of depictions of grief and its differences at various times and for different people. The author managed to write a whole book about the feelings with not a lot of plot which didn't become maudlin or boring, which is really impressive. I haven't read the previous book but that was no hindrance at all.

One More Try is the second book in the Red Door Daddies series by B. Ripley. This book is about Joel and Tiernan. 2 years ago they lost their partner in a car accident. In the aftermath of going from a threesome to a twosome Tiernan takes an impulsive decision and leaves Joel. Ending up on the street without not only one but now both of his Daddies. When Tiernan gets the chance to get his Daddy Joel back he takes it even though Joel is what's broken now.......

I loved their story. Their story was sweet, sexy, full of feels (so many feels) and very well written.

I enjoyed this book. I was initially reluctant to download it because I read a B. Ripley some time back and didn't particularly care for it, so I wasn't at all sure about this, but something about this one kept calling me and eventually I went for it. I was quite impressed by the writing in this one, I felt it was much improved over the first one I'd read, and also the editing and proofreading was significantly better. I haven't read the first in the series but had no difficulty in following the story.

I found this really sweet and lovely, and I identified with the way the author wrote about grief and loss. Grief can drive people apart as much as bring them together, and it was wonderful to see Joel and Tiernan find their way back together. I very much enjoyed the first two thirds of the book, I found the last section was a tad weaker, and a fair portion was devoted to setting up the story for the next book with Tiernan's friend Bryce, and I felt the real concern over him rather cast a dampener over the main couple's HEA. If, like me, you read the epilogue to get more of the HEA for the couple I would recommend not bothering with the epilogue for this one, as it's purely a teaser for Bryce's book.

Despite some of the issues with pacing and a weaker end section, I enjoyed the book overall and would definitely read more by this author. I enjoyed the characters and genuinely cared about them, and that's the most important thing for me.

It has taken me some time to finally express my love for this book with the right words. The courage as a writer to tackle feelings and actions of grief alone is a difficult task, but to take on two different perspectives of grief for the same person is pure genius! The trials and tribulations each man went through alone, then how they managed to deal with the aftermath together, was an emotional rollercoaster of tears, hurt, pain, and joy.

“𝓣𝓱𝓪𝓷𝓴 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓯𝓸𝓻 𝓫𝓮𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓹𝓪𝓽𝓲𝓮𝓷𝓽 𝔀𝓱𝓲𝓵𝓮 𝓘 𝓵𝓮𝓪𝓻𝓷 𝓱𝓸𝔀 𝓽𝓸 𝓭𝓸 𝓽𝓱𝓲𝓼 𝓻𝓲𝓰𝓱𝓽 𝓯𝓸𝓻 𝔂𝓸𝓾,”

I still, to this day, do not know how to interpret this troupe, but I can appreciate the care and respect displayed by these characters. Joel’s character was deeply hurt, torn apart by the unexpected loss of not only his husband but their boy, too. The author nails the animosity and anger held toward Tiernan while also killing the patience he had within. Tiernan, though losing the same man, reacted differently and, in his eyes, justifiably.

The author's emotional depths from these characters were purely overwhelming, taking grief to an entirely different level. I could feel their pain, understand every emotion, and cry for them. I have never connected on such an emotional level before and will carry them into the unforeseen future (or until Bryce’s story is released).

As much as I hated to leave this rating, there were a lot of grammatical errors. Without these errors, this is easily a five-star read that deserves all the praise!!

I think this story can be read by itself. It's been a while since I read the first one and while the end of the first set up this one, it focuses on a different couple and events don't build on themselves too much. This story deals a lot with grief and the loss of a loved one. Both Joel and Tiernan are dealing with the loss of Daniel and there are some incredibly raw moments. I thought this was a really moving story and there were more than a few tears shed. That being said, all that these guys have been through changed them in ways that actually lets them fit together quite well. Daniel was the glue that kind of kept them together previously but I think it also highlighted some failings as well. Joel has a hard time expressing himself verbally and was content to let Daniel take this lead which lead to Tiernan not understanding the depth of Joel's feelings for him. Tiernan on the other hand, would seek out Daniel for a softer type of Dom when wanted leaving Joel mainly enforcer for the rules. Without that barrier, these two men have to learn to redefine their relationship and their needs. It was a very well done story and I really loved seeing these two reconnect and heal each other. It wasn't always an easy read but definitely powerful. I'm looking forward to the next in the series which is hinted at in the epilogue!

This is book two of the series but definitely can be read as a stand-alone. I haven’t read book one yet and wasn’t lost at all.
The story follows Joel, who lost his husband two years ago and still is in a state of denial and grief. His emotions were so raw at times, I could feel them in the marrow of my bones. The slow ticking of the time bomb in Joel’s every day life painted such an honest and vivid picture of the ones left behind. How even the smallest things can break you from one day to another.
Tiernan left Joel two years ago, after the grief for Daniel pulled them further apart each day. But he has something he wants to give back to Joel. And when he sees the stagnant state of life and the shell Joel has become he makes it his goal to bring him back to life.
I loved how their roles turned. How the strong, dominant Daddy is barely holding on and how his boy has to become the strong one to show Joel what he’s made of and built him back up to the man he once was.

The only thing I had a minor issue with was how fast they came together again. Yes, they have a past together, but for me the decision felt to instantaneous. But somehow they made it work and managed to simultaneously find their way back to each other and work through their grief together.

I can’t wait to read Bryce and Mason’s story!

One More Try is the second book in the Red Door Daddies series, and it is an emotional, heartbreaking, and deeply satisfying follow‑up to One More Song.

We meet both Joel and Tierane in book one, so I highly recommend starting there first.

Tierane once had everything he ever wanted: a home, a future, and two Daddies who adored him. But when Daniel’s sudden death shatters their family, grief sends everything spiralling. Joel closes himself off, drowning in loss, and Tierane, impulsive and overwhelmed, runs. Two years later, he finds himself homeless and alone, carrying the weight of regret.

When Tierane and Joel cross paths again, their reunion is raw and emotional. The healing that follows, both individually and together, is beautifully written. I really felt for Joel, who not only lost his husband but then lost Tierane without warning. His life feels frozen in time, like he’s still waiting for what he lost to come back. It’s Tierane who finally begins to pull him back into the world.

As in book one, the kink‑club setting adds tension, heat, and a familiar sense of connection between them. Watching Tierane slip naturally back into his role and Joel slowly rediscover what it means to be a Daddy after so much heartbreak was both tender and powerful.

This book is an emotional journey of grief, forgiveness, and second chances, balanced with just the right amount of spicy, kinky moments to keep the story grounded in their dynamic.

Definitely recommend, especially if you love stories about rebuilding love after loss.

Vibes:
-Daddy kink
-Age gap
-Second chance
-Hurt/comfort
-BDSM

Missing a piece of your heart doesn't stop these men from loving each other as hard as they can.
Second in series (Red Door Daddies), can be read as a standalone but might be better if read in order due to a shared cast of characters. Daddy/boy. Hurt/comfort. Slow burn. Second chance. Dual POV. Two years ago Joel lost his husband and then the boy that made their home complete left him to struggle with his grief alone. Tiernan misses both his daddies, the one he lost and the one he left behind, but when he gets a second chance to be with Joel he hopes they help each other heal. This story centers on the grief of losing a loved one and how the two men that loved him come back together to try and be happy again. I enjoyed Tiernan’s strength of character and Joel’s commitment to working on communicating and trying harder to give Tiernan his best self. Very emotional story, and although I wish we did see more of how Joel and Tiernan used to interact, they are very sweet and in love with each other still no matter the time that has passed and are learning to be together without a third. 4.5 rounded up

Love and loss at the heart of this book

This will be all too familiar to anyone who has ever lost a loved one. The sadness, the ache, the emptiness, the tears, feeling so much yet at the same time, numb.
Joel is completely lost, just barely getting through each day without his husband, ambushed with grief grenades by the most random things, unable to see that their boy is hurting so badly too.
Tiernan is grieving the absence of both his daddies, one gone forever, the other retreated from life and not really wanting Tiernan anyway.
Their story was far more realistic than One More Song. I understood the emotions that both were going through, their longing for Daniel was visceral, and the reasons that their relationship broke down after Daniel's death were heartbreakingly plausible once you got to know each man. Their tentative reconciliation worked well as B. didn't rush them, giving them time to navigate their changed dynamic and discover what the other was thinking and feeling and needing.
Seeing familiar faces from One More Song was nice, especially Perry, and just makes me want his story, as well as Duke's and also Bryce's.

Tiernan had it all until everything came crashing down when Daniel who was one of his two Daddies died suddenly and then the other one Joel was just lost. Tiernan felt bereft and unwanted and so did the only thing he could do and left. Two years later Tiernan was living on the streets when he returned to the home they all lived together in to see Joel and give him back something. It becomes apparent that Joel is broken as he is quieter, sadder and a lot more willing to let Tiernan get away with pushing boundaries and being a brat. He needs Tiernan to mend him as what he wants from his Daddy is one more try.

I loved this story as the relationship between Daniel, Joel and Tiernan was so very special and it was heartbreaking to read about Daniel's death and the way it broke the two men. I could feel real emotions from both men as they tried to work through their grief and their relationship as they tried to find a way to stay together. I loved that they were both all in and that both tried hard to support each other and give whatever the other man needed. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content and a BDSM-like Daddy/boy relationship.

I felt this story of grieving and love heart deep

Daddy Joel and Tiernan’s story was one I had been looking forward to reading after having met them in previous books. They had lost their partner and Daddy when Daniel died, and then Daddy Joel and Tiernan lost each other when Tiernan ran away. But they missed each other for two whole years, and all those who loved them also missed them even though Daddy Joel was still around.

It was the grieving that hit me like a truck. It was described so realistically. I cried and cried at the chord it struck. I really wanted Daddy Joel and Tiernan to be able to get back together, and I felt the truth of them having to renegotiate their relationship with each other and come to accept that Daddy Daniel would no longer be there.

I don’t usually write reviews because I don’t feel confident in my writing. But I had to write this one because it spoke to me so deeply, and I think that it is an amazing read. I cannot wait to read more from this series. Thank you, B. Ripley, for writing such an amazing story with such truth and love.

“You smell good,” I whispered, closing my eyes and inhaling the scent of him again.
“What do I smell like?” he asked with a small laugh.
“Home.”

This was such a good book. It was an emotional read for me, as it deals with the loss of a loved one and grieving. Joel's sorrow hit me hard from the very first page. His husband, Daniel, died two years ago in a car accident. Tiernan loved both his daddies, but when Daniel died and their dynamic changed and he felt unwanted, he ran, leaving Joel to grieve not one loss- but two- alone. My heart really broke for him and his suffering even two years later. Tiernan has also had a hard time grieving and struggling after he ended up homeless and alone.

I thought the author did a really good job writing a story about grieving and healing. I liked that even though both Joel and Tiernan had been changed by Daniel's death and what happened afterwards, them coming together again was a way for them to not only reconnect, but find some peace and rekindle love between them. 5 stars

One More Try by @bripleywrites
.
➳ A book where Daddy Kink and emotional wreckage meld into the most beautiful and delicious story. Joel and Tiernan will make your heart ache and crave the HEA they so desperately deserve. After losing their partner, Daniel, Joel and Tiernan go their separate ways with both of their hearts irrevocably changed. But when Tiernan returns, they must grow together to see if they can make it work with just the two of them. The chemistry and desire between them is undeniable and will prevent you from putting the book down until it’s complete.
.
➳ What we LOVED:
🔥 Daddy Kink
🔥 Kinky AF BDSM scenes
🔥 Hurt/Comfort
🔥 The way second chances should ALWAYS be written
🔥 The duck.
.
➳ If y’all haven’t read @bripleywrites you are REALLY missing out. One More Try is book 2 in the Red Door Daddies series❤️

From the end of One More Song, I wanted Tiernan and Joel's story, and B. Ripley did not disappoint. I ugly-cried through the first half of this book because the descriptions of grief are so on-point, it took me back 13 years to my husband's sudden death. Please heed the content warnings, because had I not been in a good place mentally, I'd have had to put the book down. As it was, the tears were cathartic.

Once Tiernan made contact with Joel again and they started working through their feelings, my tears eased up and I enjoyed the loving and hot relationship these two had and how it grew through the book.

B. Ripley has become one of my favorite writers, and I love the Red Door Daddies ensemble. It's not 100% necessary to have read the first book or the novella to enjoy this book, but I highly recommend both One More Song and A Little Christmas - Morrie first because they're both excellent and they give you the context for One More Try. Now I NEED the next one!

I think this book is best enjoyed after One More Song. That's my opinion, although the author says it can be read as a standalone.
I can not tell you how many times I found tears in my eyes while reading this book. Joel is grieving, not just for his deceased husband, but for their relationship with their boy, who ran away in his own grief. Joel is sunk in his grief, not moving on, when his boy returns 2 years later. Joel doesn't feel that he can be the Daddy Tiernan needs, but they agree to try again. The discussions between them are hard-hitting, and real. Joel's grief is familiar to anyone who has experinced a loss themselves. Emotions are high, but the underlying love story is sweet and wonderful. Joel, with his boy's help, manages to start moving forward without losing his past. The is a wonderfully written story, with amazing characters. I can't wait to read about Bryce and Mason, and hopefully soon about Perry and his Daddy.

I don't usually read the daddy/boy trope, it's just not a trope that I'm a big fan of, however, I got sent an arc of this and I did enjoy this story. There was enough of a storyline that I didn't mind the daddy/boy elements. I enjoyed the topics this author tackled in this story, I myself have had to deal with grief. In different ways, and trying to figure out how to overcome that is so difficult, and painful. This story was very relatable in that aspect, and I appreciate how the author handed that.

Tiernan and Joel work well together, Tiernan challenges Joel and tries to help him and care for him. They are good for each other and are both trying to learn how to cope after Daniel passed.

I hope Bryce will be able to find someone who will be there for him too.

One More Try!

Tiernan and Joel
loved them and literally waited for their story since One More
Song came out.
Tiernan
My sweet boy. All he ever wanted was for the people he loved to love him back. He is so sweet and protective of the people who has his heart. This sweet boy went through so much and and never lost who he was for very long. I am extremely grateful he got is HEA.
Joel
Oh this broken man lost his husband and his bov. His heart is broken and his mind is lost. All he wants is his family back. I can't imagine having to grieve someone who has passed away while at the same time grieving someone who is alive. It just doesn't seem fair. I am so glad his boy came back to him.
Their story broke my heart and their love fixed it right back up. loved this book so much and am so sad it's over. I can't wait for more!

Grief is different for everyone but all too often in a book it simply doesn’t ring true. Not here. The author doesn’t sweep it under the carpet when a new (renewed) relationship starts because the truth is that it is always there in some way.
Joel and Tiernan are both finding their way again after losing Daniel and I think the highs and lows they experience are well written.
Yes, there is an element of them getting back together very quickly but we are still dealing with a fictional story here. However I do like that it wasn’t instantaneous.
This was quite an emotional story but still with enough warmth to keep it from being bleak. Although…Bryce! I need his story.
This is the second book of a series but can be read as a standalone - I read it without reading the first book and didn’t feel like I was missing anything.

My heart went out to Joel and Tiernan at the loss of not only their partner Daniel but the loss of each other at a time when they both really needed each other. I loved that they found each other again and got a second chance at being what they needed for each other and though it wasn't an easy road, they ended up stronger for all they had been through separately.

Grief really took its toll on Joel and he doesn't deal with it well, pushing Tiernan away until he thinks he is no longer wanted or needed by Joel and he runs and ends up on the streets. There were plenty of emotions felt as I read this story, not only for Jopel and Tiernan but for Tiernan's best friend Bryce who hurt so much that he in turn allows others to hurt him more. I know when Bryce's book comes out it will be an even more emotional one.

This was a moving story of second chances, surviving grief and healing.

PLEASE NOTE TRIGGER WARNINGS
Well written story that follows the emotional and heartbreaking journey of Tiernan and Joel as they reconnect and work through the anger and grief of their separation, as well as the loss they still feel over Daniel's death.
Tiernan and Joel are both unique, complex characters who truly belong to each other, and will capture your heart.
This book deals with the ravages of grief, homelessness, solid friendships, unexpected consequences, hope, forgiveness, heling, a deep connection, genuine love, and a mellow HEA.
There are also steamy encounters and BDSM scenes.
Also of note, there is a group of intriguing secondary characters that add more depth to the story, and an epilogue that gives more detail about one of them.
This is definitely a heartwrenching tale, but I would recommend it.

This was another fantastic and heartfelt story by B Ripley. I don’t think I’ve ever read a story by her that doesn’t make my heart ache a bit and that hooks me in from the start!

We met these two in the first book in this series, and get a glimpse of their background story 💛 Read the trigger warnings if you have any, this story definitely made me tear up and feel sad, but it’s so beautiful written and the story is so beautifully told! I just love Joel and the way he open up his heart eventually 💛 Tiernan is a beautiful, caring and patient boy that gives his Daddy exactly what he needs! Love the bound they found between them when moving further into their life together 💛

Now I’m excited to read the next 💛

The second book in the Red Door Daddies series, this can be read as a stand-alone.
I loved the story, beautifully written. I laughed and cried. I`m going to read book one and then patiently await book 3.

Tiernan and Joel ❤️
5 Tear Inducing Stars ⭐️

All I can say is WOW!!! This has to be one of the most emotional books that I have ever read, when I say that I ugly cried...I ugly cried!

The heartbreak and grief going on here was simply overwhelming, the depth of emotion this author penned lifted right off of these pages and literally left me breathless. These characters took hold of my heart and never let go, I adored them, I hated their pain but I loved their story.

All I can say at this point, quite honestly I am still reeling and a bit speechless : This book is a phenomenally written second chance/hurt comfort romance, it's that simple. B. Ripley killed it, BRAVO 👏🏻

1000% recommend this book!!

Awesome! Joel and Daniel, were perfect together. Tiernan, their boy completed them. Then they lost Daniel, themselves and their family. Joel, remembers the good times. He is sad and worried while understanding while Tiernan left. He just struggled to explain. He looked for Tiernan everywhere, he just couldn't find him. A great misunderstand and miscommunication seperated these two grieving men. This story is gentle, sad, soft and hard. We are drawn into the cycle of grief that seems never ending. We grow to love both men and even come to love Daniel. Can they forgive themselves? Can they forgive each other? Can they work through their grief? I read this with tears pooling in my eyes. Gripping! Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

this book will break your heart and then put it back together again

You know the people who say that romance books are meaningless and just smut with no storyline? Next time someone says it I’m going to tell them to read this book.
Because this book has so much more than just 🌶️ going on. It is such a great portrayal of grief and pain and redemption and trying again and love. I cried several times from the characters’ sadness. And then I cried again from their happiness.
This book is a must read. And it of course has plenty of spice and a great Daddy/boy dynamic. But it’s also just a really really great book.
I’m now waiting anxiously for Bryce’s story. And Perry’s. And Duke’s!!

To start off with, this book should be read after One More Song to get the full story. The set of characters in this one are side characters in the first book, but it sets the whole plot up with reading that first.
I went into this book, knowing it was dark with a tw of a past character death. While most of this book is centered around healing from the death, it was written wonderfully. I loved seeing Teriann and Joel find a sort of understanding amongst one another to be what each other needs.
I cant wait to see what the third book will bring of this series, and I really hope it'll follow Bryce or Perry, who are both secondary characters in this book.

This is a story of what happens after a loved one dies and how radically different the reactions to a death can be. Tiernan makes the choice to leave not thinking how that will affect Joel who has now lost both the men he loved and is left alone to try to carry on. When these two get their second chance, it isn't all hearts and flowers. Both realize how much they've changed, Joel definitely not for the better and Tiernan has to step up to the plate, grow up a lot, get a bit tougher and work to help Joel get their life back on track. The author makes you feel the desolation and the love in this one with two amazingly real characters.
