Dont buy this - it is complete rubbish. The whole book centres around "...pushing the problem to the back of your mind so it doesnt cause a problem anymore...".
While I agree that excessively talking about a problem doesnt help, this is crazy. Ask any therapist/psychologist, and they will tell you the truth - what you resist persists.
All this method is is a form of suppression of feelings - and goto any 12 step programme to see how well that works.
Great way to take back control of your life. I suggest reading the whole thing, the key points I took away, having read it quite some time ago.
1. Stop talking about it, stop telling people about it, stop strengthening the pattern of thinking that's making you feel this way, it's just a bad habit you can get rid of. Don't make it an excuse.
2. Like any habit, it takes time to get rid of it, keep at it, it will work, I promise.
3. Take care of yourself physically, eat better (no sugar) and I would add try doing some sports.
4. Find a hobby, something to occupy your mind, it will be a form of meditation by activity
5. Lastly and the most important part, nothing bad has ever or will ever happen to you due to sensations bad thoughts or feelings, it's just an overreaction of the mind, regardless of the cause. Try to remember this bit whenever you start feeling uneasy and simply let it happen, observe it, like you would in meditation, it will pass, but you'll still be there and stronger for it.
The bad reviews here, are missing the point - you can try anything else you want, but this works too. And my personal opinion is, medication or therapy will keep reminding you that this is something that's a part of you, which it is not. They are only a crutch I've done both, however this allowed ME to fix myself and gave me the tools to take back control of my life.
I've read many similar books, but this one spoke to me and really put things into perspective. Before I had read this, I had also read the Power of Now (excellent) and other similar books that I feel really contributed to the mind space I needed to be in to really get what this book is all about. I can see how someone beginning the journey of dealing with anxiety might find issue jumping into these methods. Having already deeply explored how my mind was working, I was able to really understand and benefit from this method.
This book package was given to me from my wife after I crashed out last year with generalised anxiety disorder. Just reading the section about the author's own struggle puts a lot of peace to your mind and genuinely gives you the feeling that you're not quite as alone as you thought.
All of the items listed in the book to help you crawl out of the abyss do work - the hardest thing is just making yourself live by them (which is something no book can help with).
