"East West is a four-level, four-skills series that emphasizes speaking and listening skills. It is based on a carefully organized syllabus that integrates grammatical, functional, topical, and situational content and follows a gradual progression. Natural language is used throughout, with high-interest continuing stories and Culture Capsules that introduce aspects of American life. Each unit of "East West features a conversation introducing the teaching points, a speaking section aimed at developing accuracy and fluency, a section devoted to listening and reading skills, and a language checklist that summarizes all the new language covered. The "Workbooks provide a wide range of writing activities related to the oral skills developed in the "Student Books. The interleaved "Teacher's Books include step-by-step teaching suggestions and additional activities, as well as background information on grammar and usage, vocabulary, culture, and pronunciation. Answer keys and tapescripts are also provided. The Cassettes contain the opening conversations and task-listening sections from the "Student Books.
