Thomas Marent is a Swiss nature and wildlife photographer whose passion for the outdoors began in childhood and deepened when he got his first camera at 16. A transformative trip to an Australian rainforest at 23 inspired a lifelong mission to explore and document rainforests worldwide. Since the mid-1990s, his work has appeared in magazines and calendars, culminating in his 2006 book Rainforest, translated into 15 languages. He has published several follow-ups, leads wildlife photography tours, and supports butterfly conservation in Switzerland.
A stunning collection of butterflies, moths and larvae in photography. There were so many different butterflies, each unique in their own way. I really enjoyed looking through the photos, though I felt the binding did take away from some of the larger photos, still a very good visual experience. I think a lot of butterfly fans should check it out, mainly due to its mass amount of species in it. Like I said, there were many I had never heard of before, and I'm sure a seasoned butterfly watcher would see some newbies too!
This book is beautiful! I had been looking for a butterfly book that featured more pictures of butterflies with their wings open and this is the first book to do so. No blue morphos (my favorite) but lots of swallowtails and glasswings and a few birdwings. Cool caterpillar pictures, too. The kids at school will like.
Absolutely stunning. Cannot believe such gems are available at throw away price of 4$ in half price books. The low number of reviewers also tell the same story. Somehow not many know of its existence. Kids will love the pictures and adults will more than they can catch from TV shows. The pictures and printing in large size does justice to the subject.
I use Marent's book as a pictorial resource for my preschool students when we study caterpillars, butterflies, their life cycle, and their behaviors. The photographs are stunning and extremely accessible to pre-readers.
