Unfortunately this book starts with the sex between one MC Kevin and some other guy, which turns out not to be the other MC. I don't know why, but that just threw me off, because I'd been expecting that Marine Sam to be the other protagonist and when Ronny appeared I couldn't root for him and he was like an intruder to me. Stupid hang up - I know - and if not for it I'm sure I'd enjoy this story much more.

Kevin, a 19yo gay man working for his uncle's construction company, is slowly stepping out from his closet since moving out of home. He meets Robby, a 21yo sub-contractor specializing in computer cable installations, when he is called in to fit out the company's latest project.

The attraction is almost instant, and it doesn't take long for either to realize that the attraction has the potential for something more. As Kevin gets to know Robby, he learns that his own fears in coming out to family and friends is almost inconsequential compared to the situation Robby is in. Robby comes from a very devout Christian family, and they strongly believe that homosexuality is an abomination and a sin.

This is a story about growing up and coming out. Yes, religion gets discussed in various ways, both good and bad, but it really is mostly a tale of coming to terms with yourself, and finding that love can never be called a sin.

In some ways, this story is formulaic - the stereotypical bible-bashing bigoted parents, the awesome lesbian friend who solves their problems, etc, but it never hurts to remember the reason why scenarios become formulaic - because they are so often based on truth. Sadly, there are parents who reject their child, loving the bible more than their family, and really, who else will such children turn but to others who understand that their sexuality is not a choice, it just is.

This is a solid read, despite a few punctuation errors, and while it's not a story that keeps you enthralled, it is a tale that stays with you.

I liked it but didn't. Hmm.
Kevin falls in love and utterly commits himself really fast. But I couldn't but be a little suspicious for the first 75%, being that he is only 19 and the book opens with him having random, casual sex with someone else.
He did prove to be a devoted lover, and his counterpart was a confused man with a messy past that makes you feel all kinds of sympathy for. Not a bad read, but it was long and there was a lot more sex than needed.

When it started, it was just the sweet read I needed. By the time it ended, I just wanted to get through it. The one thing that truly annoyed me about this story was the portrayal of their black friend. Maybe I'm being a bit sensitive but I thought it was silly.
