A History of Western Society continues to capture the attention of AP European history students because it recreates the lives of ordinary people and makes history memorable. Brought to you by the highly regarded editors at Bedford/St. Martins, every element of the text has been rethought, reconsidered, and revised to bring the original vision to a new generation of students. The tenth edition continues to tie social history to the broad sweep of politics and culture, heightening its attention to daily life, and strengthening the treatment of European exploration. With a dynamic new design, new special features on visual evidence, and a robust companion reader, A History of Western Society helps AP students master the concepts and content of European history.
Good survey of the development of history and world societies. Loved reading about the Roman Empire and Hellenic/Hellenistic civilization especially, especially since I can cross-pollinate that with my readings on philosophy and how the development of these societies influenced Ancient Greek philosophers and later Christian theology. Lost a bit of steam around the period from Charlemagne - the Middle Ages. May need to re-review those sections later.
This book uses concise and interesting text that explores the cultural nuances and large scale events of major historical societies in a fascinating light.
This was my textbook for World Civilization at BYU, and I absolutely loved it - I wished my professor for the first half of the course had followed it more! I still have it and occasionally use it for reference.
