What the Moon Is Like (Let's Read-And-Find-Out Science

Rate this book
Read and find out about what the moon is like in this colorfully illustrated nonfiction picture book. Imagine that you're walking on the moon. What is it like? For thousands of years people looked up at the moon and wondered about it. Now we  know  what the moon is like. There is no air on the moon and nothing grows, but there are towering mountains and deep craters—and much more. Colder than the desert, the hotter than the desert, the moon is an amazing place to explore. This is a clear and appealing science book for early elementary age kids, both at home and in the classroom. It's a Level 2 Let's-Read-and-Find-Out, which means the book explores more challenging concepts for children in the primary grades. The 100+ titles in this leading nonfiction series Top 10 reasons to love Books in this series support the Common Core Learning Standards, Next Generation Science Standards, and the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) standards. Let's-Read-and-Find-Out is the winner of the American Association for the Advancement of Science/Subaru Science Books & Films Prize for Outstanding Science Series.

A great book to help share my excitement about the moon landing anniversary with the little people that I love. I think they will get a kick out of this one, and I love the format of the book. This is a great series.

For kindergarten through second grade students, this excellent book illustrates to students what it is like to be on the moon. I would use this book in the classroom to help students identify the moon parts and the features of the moon. The students can visually take a journey on the moon while reading and flipping through the book and using their imagination.

This book would be perfectly suited for third graders. They learn about what they see each day in the night sky and learn about the moon. A fun activity to do with them together would be to create our own class moon! On that moon we either draw, create objects, or write information on it!This way they get to look at the moon all day, instead of just at night.

This book was updated in 1986 (first published in 1963 – how did they know what the moon was like then?), and that’s the version I have. I love the contrast between the desolate, stagnant moon and the lovely, changing and colorful Earth. I also love the last pages confident suggestion of moon colonies. Ha.

I just wish they had actually used a few more photographs instead of primarily illustrations, but maybe they didn't have photographs that portrayed exactly what they wanted to show. Very good at addressing a topic that interests many children.

36 months - A great starter book for preschoolers who have little knowledge of space, the moon etc. Especially good for kids who enjoy a simple picture book format rather than the typical encyclopedic format with numerous images and bullets filling a page.

This is a book with lots of very interesting facts and information about the moon, presented in an easy to understand way. At the back of the book are suggested activities to do. Very nicely illustrated.
