This beautifully illustrated probe into Egyptology covers many topics including the importance of the Nile, the role of the gods, fashion and clothing, the pyramids, the secrets of hieroglyphics, and the enigma of the Sphinx, to name a few. Fletcher (freelance Egyptologist and director of the NILE educational organization) interprets themes relevant to ancient Egyptian civilization in the light of iconography, pattern, motif, symbolism, and historical and spiritual significance. Specially commissioned artwork, maps and color photographs showcase the culture against the broad context of the civilization's wisdom, spirituality and mythology. 10.5x10.5. Annotation c. A good introduction to ancient Egypt, with plenty of well-chosen illustrations and photos. Well-written and engaging. It would perhaps benefit from more written material, but what's there is pretty solid and informative.
A simple yet informative look into the art of Ancient Egypt and the myths surrounding these. The book also touches upon how these affected life during the time of the Pharaohs. The illustrations and drawings are what make this book worhtwhile, they are beautifully done and cover the full range of Egyptian culture from the big dramatic temples to the everyday amulets carried by the general populus.
A fun photo book that has many new ideas, descriptions and history of ancient Egypt. Not big enough for a coffee table book. Not shaped for a normal book. This is an unique sized book that makes the photos standout, which is one of the purposes of the book-to show the artwork. The artwork is very wonderful and mysterious.
Great text for research in the middle grades. There is a glossary and well organized index in the back, as well as a list for further reading and a list of museum websites. This will certainly be on my recommendation list for teachers and students alike.
Krátky a stručný prehľad umenia starovekého Egypta. Jednoduché a ľahko pochopiteľné. Škoda, že to nešlo viac do detailov, ale podstata je zachovaná. Ako základ pochopenia umenia starovekého Egypta to stačí. Spracovaná je knižka prehľadne, podľa jednotlivých tém, zrozumiteľne a pútavo.
