Post WWII left most of the world in ruins, hunger and homelessness leaves past professionals without a future or direction. An American searches the past battlefields for the best pilots and warbirds he can find, and then offers these Aces a future, a way out of the ruins. He creates a race, which brings with it transportation, papers, a thousand dollars, and a promise to anywhere in the world after the race is over, win or not. This is all they knew but it is enough. Questions surface among the contestants but answers come slowly. Bad feelings or not, it's worth the chance for a new life.
