How do you stop something you don't even understand? 16-year-old Katelyn Avery has to do just that or die trying. Katelyn, known as (Kat) to friends, finds her world as she knows it ripped apart in one morning. Kat's mom takes a job that has her working in Tokyo for the entire summer, and Kat cannot go. She is forced to leave New York and spend the summer in Alabama with her grandmother and two aunts she's never even met .Kat's new boyfriend dumps her two days before she leaves and her friends are devastated she's abandoning them for the whole summer. Life for Kat couldn't get much worse, that is until she arrives in the deep south. Shortly after arrival things begin to get beyond strange, she finds out her family comes from a long line of witches and that she may actually have powers of her own. Kat learns from her aunt her mom lied to her about her birth father her whole life and finds out her "Goth" cousin Lydia belongs to a book club that is possibly messing with black magic. Suddenly Kat is surrounded by the darkest evil, a 206-year-old witch’s curse she has to stop and a group of girls practicing black magic and gunning for her as their next sacrifice victim. The only slightly normal thing Kat finds is Riley James, who becomes her first love and her confidant.
The novel Saving Katelyn follows Kat as she learns the hard and painful lesson that people are not always, what they appear to be and people you mistake as your friends may actually want to kill you. She will be forced into a desperate journey to save the lives of her friends and her own, and to put an end to a deadly curse that has gone on for two century's to long

Amazing book, by far my favorite of McBride's loved the story line and the main character. Highly recommended!
