Carlin was especially noted for his political and black humor and his observations on language, psychology, and religion along with many taboo subjects. Carlin and his "Seven Dirty Words" comedy routine were central to the 1978 U.S. Supreme Court case F.C.C. v. Pacifica Foundation, in which a narrow 5-4 decision by the justices affirmed the government's right to regulate Carlin's act on the public airwaves.
Carlin's mid-2000s stand-up routines focused on the flaws in modern-day America. He often took on contemporary political issues in the United States and satirized the excesses of American culture.
A disciple of Lenny Bruce, he placed second on the Comedy Central cable television network list of the 10 greatest stand-up comedians, ahead of Bruce and behind Richard Pryor. He was a frequent performer and guest host on The Tonight Show during the three-decade Johnny Carson era, and was also the first person to host Saturday Night Live.

The only way to read Carlin is by listening to an audio version of the book.

Class Clown by George Carlin – ‘known for his dark comedy and reflections on politics, English, psychology, religion, and taboo subjects…’ – I have enjoyed this rather short act, especially since I think I may identify with the Class Clown – or others will, at World Class, the club where we meet – this is where I promote my own ‘gig’: you have more than five (they may be more than six by now) thousand reviews of magnum opera from The Greatest books of All Time site and others, plus notes on films from The New York Times’ Best 1,000 Movies Ever Made and other pages on my blog and YouTube channel https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/20...

Ergo, it is essential to listen to – or read, maybe watch on YouTube, the latter might be even better, for you get to see the body language of the comedian, I just listened to this show – jocularity, albeit this performer is more serious, he talks about values for instance, and that brings me to another psychology classic

George Carlin talks about religion and he appears to ‘attack it’, he talks about limbo – which may be cancelled, he jokes – and that was the take of the aforementioned Nathaniel Branden in another one of his books, where he maintains that being religious is bad, since one believes in the afterlife and does not pay attention to this one

Mohamed Ali is brought up – his job was to ‘beat people up, but he draw the line at killing people, which is what the government wanted him to do, in Vietnam’ the lines are funny – it is not what I have put in here but this is the gist of it – Cassius Clay did not want to be enlisted for the war in Vietnam and he had to suffer for it
The Americans have a leader now – a calamity – who had skipped that war, because of ‘bone spurs’, actually he was rich and could avoid the fate of the others, who could not afford such an excuse, nonetheless, that is among the least of the problems associated with this catastrophe, I better stop here
To tend with, I will just put in something about today – hence, a spoiler alert, if you are still here – December 1, 2025 (this is posted on the second, but written on Monday) we celebrate the National Day – and it is also my sister’s birthday – and that was an occasion for some slapstick – first, I went to the club early
I thought this is going to be an usual program, opening at 6 am, only they did not, it was only 8 for access, and then I thought I will go in for some massage, and that did not work, however, I could run for an hour, but later, tried to use the bicycle to get home, like always, but this time, I became a prisoner in the huge crowds, gathered to watch the parade, the Humvees, APV, armored vehicles and what not, and I don’t see why they do that, all the access was impossible, avenues were blocked for the event, but then the side streets were unavailable…silly nationalists
Now for my standard closing of the note with a question, and invitation – I am on Goodreads as Realini Ionescu, at least for the moment, if I keep on expressing my views on Orange Woland aka TACO, it may be a short-lived presence

There is also the small matter of working for AT&T – this huge company asked me to be its Representative for Romania and Bulgaria, on the Calling Card side, which meant sailing into the Black Sea wo meet the US Navy ships, travelling to Sofia, a lot of activity, using my mother’s two bedrooms flat as office and warehouse, all for the grand total of $250, raised after a lot of persuasion to the staggering $400…with retirement ahead, there are no benefits, nothing…it is a longer story, but if you can help get the mastodont to pay some dues, or have an idea how it can happen, let me know

Don't get me wrong, this is a great classic of comedy from a legend, but it's so dated at this point that it's more like listening to an essay on tape. Some parts got me and I learned some things, but just doesn't hit the same decades later.

I was a class clown. I can relate. Seriously, George is one of the greats. Standup humor generally isn't as effective in print. George's humor is so universal and true to the human condition it works either way. If you like laughing at how ridiculous the human race can be, George is for you.
