Claire Weekes

Dr Hazel Claire Weekes MBE was an Australian general practitioner and health writer. She also had an early career as a research scientist working in the field of comparative reproduction. She is considered by some as the pioneer of modern anxiety treatment via Cognitive Therapy. She continues to be noted for her books on dealing with anxiety disorders. Many of today's anxiety self-help books continue to cite her work.

I have read this book cover to cover many times and I read excerpts from it on a daily basis.
It is as the title says, ESSENTIAL information and help for anyone who deals with panic attacks and agoraphobia.

Despite the age of the text itself (if you can say such a thing of something written in the 1970's through 1980's) this book will speak volumes to anyone who has at some point experienced stress, anxiety, panic or in fact any number of phobias.

The premise is simple, and the late Dr Weekes' executes it with aplomb, using her years of experience treating people with nervous illness and as a GP to reach out to any reader and help them face, accept, float above and move through any level of anxiety. And as Dr Weekes would say, if you haven't suffered from anything like this but want to know more, what the heck!

Honestly, I read through this one because I thought it would help me to understand nervous illnesses in the people around me and it did just that. But it didn't grasp my attention and I skimm read a lot of it. Well written, just nor for me
