But she can't afford to feel anything but respect for the new driver she's hired to pilot her race car. Too bad Adam has other ideas.
Adam isn't afraid of a challenge, but getting close to his new owner is proving to be a tougher road than some of the superspeedways he's driven. It's going to take a secret weapon--his daughter. Soon his precocious ten-year-old has Rebecca on the run--straight into Adam's arms. But can he convince her to stay with him, and leave behind the ghosts of her past once and for all?

With over a million books in print, Pamela Britton likes to call herself the best known author nobody’s ever heard of. Of course, that’s begun to change thanks to a certain licensing agreement with that little racing organization known as NASCAR.
Nowadays it’s not unusual to hear her books being discussed by the likes of Jay Leno, Keith Olbermann, or Stephen Colbert. Flip open a magazine and you might read about her, too, in Sports Illustrated, Entertainment Weekly, or Southwest Airlines’ Spirit Magazine. Channel surf and you might see her on CNN, ESPN, ABC or NBC.
But before the glitz and glamour of NASCAR, Pamela wrote books that were frequently voted the best of the best by The Detroit Free Press, Barnes & Noble (two years in a row) and RT BOOKclub Magazine. She’s won numerous writing awards, including the National Reader’s Choice Award, and a nomination for Romance Writers of America’s Golden Heart and the Holt Medallion.
When not following the race circuit, Pamela writes full-time from her ranch in Northern California where she lives with her husband, daughter and, at last count, twenty-one four-legged friends.
If you'd like to chat with Pamela you can find her on her myspace where she loves to hangout with her readers.
Rebecca (the widow of Randy, the driver who died in Dangerous Curves) is trying hard to keep her racing team. She had a lot of problems lately and no good results to show to her sponsors. So when a little girl shows up claiming that her father is a good driver and that she should hire him, she isn't really optimistic. But when she meets Adam and sees him drive, she starts to feel hope. If only she wasn't attracted to him.
Adam is a man who gave up his career so that he could raise his daughter Lindsay. At the beginning he refuses to even try, but when he accepts that he could be a driver and a father at at same time, everything starts to fall into place. Everything except his relationship with Rebecca.
I liked Adam. He is a great father, patient, modest, and totally unaware of his talent on the track.
I hated Rebecca. First of all she keeps using her husband as an excuse. It's not the fact that he has been dead for five years, but even when she comes to terms with his death she still uses him as a shield. And I have no idea how she kept her company for so long. So she's struggling with money and she desperately needs good results but she fires the most promising driver she has because she's afraid of her feelings. And then she signs a contract with the biggest shark of the NASCAR world instead?! She really pissed me off.
The best part of the book is Lindsay. She's a great kid willing to do a lot of things so that her dad can be happy. I love her plots and plans. :-)
Sweet & clean romance -again predictable storyline and guaranteed HEA. Noting that this is the second book in the series I read in a row, I found also the same structure in plot. If I pick up any more books in this series, I feel that I know what will happen and when. This may prove to be a comfort-read type for some people but I would usually prefer a surprising twist.
The protagonist, Becca, has a whole basket full of problems and the man of interest, Adam, seems unrealistic-ly too too nice-next-door-guy. The one thing I loved in this story is actually Adam's young daughter, Lindsay, she's just too cute! Lovely & easy to read when you're exhausted after hanging out with girlfriends at wine tastings ;)
4 Stars! ~ Adam Drake gave up his racing dreams when his wife walked out on him and his then four year old daughter. But racing would always be in his blood, and as years pass he continues to race the small time tracks as he tries to give a stable home to his daughter. Even at the young age of 10, Lindsey knows her Dad could be a big racing star. So when Newman and Sanders Motorsports announces a joint Variety Show for recruiting new drivers, Lindsey travels by bus to North Carolina to the Newman headquarters to convince Rebecca Newman to give her Dad a tryout. Rebecca's been sole owner of Newman Motorsports since her husband Randy's tragic death in a race four years ago. She's never really been able to move on, except where her race team is concerned. She'd taken the money from Randy's insurance and put it all back into the company, taking chances and expanding. Now she finds herself in a bit of a slump and in desperate need of a talented driver to pull in the ratings for her sponsors. Lindsey Drake is a charmer, and Rebecca can't help but be drawn in by her. Adam disturbs Becca in a way she's not ready for. She finds herself routing for him to win the auditions, and then when he does and she hires him, she begins an inner battle. Can she give her heart again to another driver? When she decides that she can't, she also decides to give Adam up as a driver allowing him to be snapped up by a friendly competitor. This pushes her team into desperate times. Adam tries his best to get Becca to accept him as a part of her life, but he thinks he's fighting Randy's ghost, when he's really fighting Becca's fears of loving so completely again.
Ms. Britton swept me away into the world of Nascar. I found the look behind the scenes of the race world very well done and entertaining. Adam is a stand up guy, with alot of insecurities of his abilities. Through his daughter's unfailing confidence, he takes the chance he needs to be the star his daughter sees in him. I thought Lindsay's character was wonderful, though rather mature for a child of ten, sometimes unbelievably mature. However, I overlooked that to see the charm in her matchmaking attempts and her insights into the romantic world of grownups. Becca's struggle to let go of her late husband is not an unusual one, though it is heartfelt and portrayed with sincerity. I loved the racing scenes and of course, couldn't help routing for the underdog and cheering when he made his moves to victory. Becca and Adam's love story is a tender one and was very well written and I'm very pleased that they had their HEA.

On The Edge by Pamela Britton NASCAR #3 Rebecca Newman’s past four years haven’t been her best. Her husband Randy had died and now her racing business is in dire straights. What she needs is to find the best driver around and start winning. She didn’t expect the answer to her problems to come knocking on her door in the form of a ten year old girl.
Adam Drake had one priority, his daughter Lindsey. His daughter had one priority as well, getting her dad back into racing. Adam raced the local dirt tracks on the week-ends, but Lindsey knew he was better than that. So she took matters into her own hands. And why not match make while she’s at it?
The third book in the series continues with a racing romance. The reader met Becca in the previous two books, a business woman who seems to have it all together….from the outside. The road to romance is never easy for the couples in these books, this one included. There are seven books total in this series. **Mild language http://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com/...
This is the third book in the NASCAR series written by Pamela Britton. This book features Rebecca Newman and Adam Drake. Rebecca inherited Newman Motorsports when her husband died in a racing accident. Adam suddenly quit racing when he found his wife cheating on him with another driver. He decided to concentrate or raising his daughter. His daughter, Lindsey, wants him to start racing again, so she begs Rebecca to hire her dad.
Rebecca takes one look at Adam Drake and loses her heart. She has avoided men since her husband's death a few years ago. Adam is also a little gun shy but is more willing to take a chance on love. Being a Harlequin romance there will be lots of angst before you reach the HEA ending.
The author wrote with lots of humor and the NASCAR part of the story had much more detail than I expected from a romance novel. The worst part of the book was how much it needed editing. That may not bother some readers but it did annoy me enough to reduce my rating by a half star. Overall, an okay read for a challenge that needed an auto racing tag.
I think this is her best book about Nascar. It's more tightly woven with the characters. I enjoyed the interaction of the characters. I loved the little girl and how she kept getting involved in everything especially getting her dad a job. You see the two previous couples in the story and find out what they have been doing. I'm really enjoying this series when I didn't think I would. I thought it would be sappy and not have enough about Nascar in it. Instead I've found that the books even have some of the inside politics incidents and the rubbing is racing in them. I would highly recommend this to any Nascar fans. Great book to take to the race and read in the morning before the race starts and RaceDay on Speed begins. Also a great beach book.
Another awesome book in the series! I'm more of a drag racing fan (1/4 mile straight track), but I watch NASCAR every now and then.
Britton knows how to connect her characters, and make the reader feel that connection. Even though Britton's books are more romance than anything (HQ), there is still suspense attached to it, like the racing, the maneuvers, etc... She's got an eye for detail, and her descriptions make you feel like you're actually there, at the track, feeling the truck/car engines rumbling. I think that's what I like most about the series. Britton's spent most of her life at the track, she knows what she's talking about, and if she's not certain, she asks for advice.
I adore the series, and hope that she's got plenty more of her NASCAR series to come!
Ten-year-old Lindsey Drake secretly travels to North Carolina to persuade NASCAR team owner Becca Newman to hire her dad as a race driver. After they meet, Lindsey determines Becca is an idealized version of everything her lonely dad needs in his life and does her best to get them romantically involved.
A cute, lighthearted romance with a feel good ending. You don't have to like racing to get involved in the story. Highly recommend.
An all around okay book. I really liked Adam and his crafty daugther Lindsey. I think i would have given i 4 stars if it wasn't for Rebecca. I liked her okay in the beginning, but the more i got into the story and got to know her, the more she began to annoy me. She keeps finding excuses and ruining herself by making dumb choices that only makes her own situation worse.
I liked this book. I liked Adam's rise. I liked his daughter. I liked the romance between Adam and Rebecca. But, I really wanted Rebecca to buck up and grow a pair. Who cares what anyone thinks! You are the boss. She folded too easily.
Great read. Lots of plot, not a lot of development between the characters - they kind of saw each other and fell in love? Seems a bit unlikely, but it was still a really fun read and I liked the characters.
