“I will make my human mate see that I am strong enough to win her. Even if she makes me feel weak for the first time in my life…”
STEPHANIE

True love is a concept I’ve never trusted. So, this whole alien fated mates thing? It makes no sense. The fact that the Vrika apparently chose the absolute worst partner for me only proves that the fated mate bond is all kinds of messed up.

Gahn Errok is the epitome of arrogance. He’s brash, ungrateful, offensive, and possibly the most dramatic man I’ve ever met in my life, human or alien. He swept into our Sea Sand settlement expecting I’d fall at his feet and go back to his mountains as his obedient little wife. Well, I am going to the mountains, but only to help with the human mission there. I am definitely not going because of him. Even if he annoyingly insists that one day I’ll love him as much as he loves me.

Alright, Gahn Errok. I’ll take that bet.
Because you are the last male on this planet, no, in this universe, I would ever want to be with.

ERROK

There is only one thing that could make my existence even more perfect than it already is: a mate. I’ve hungered, waited, and yearned for a mate. Finally, it is my time. Finally, I will have the love I’ve craved.

Only I meet my beloved in the dust and the sand and she…
Does not seem to want me.

Which makes no sense. Any woman would rejoice at the chance to be my mate!
But, strangely, Zuh-Tephanie does not rejoice. In fact, she glares at me as if hoping I’ll fall off the edge of a cliff.
Well, too bad for her that I am too clever to fall off a cliff.

I am strong. I am worthy.
I will win her.
I just…
Have to figure out how.

Ugh I loved this one. The banter between Stephanie and Errok was perfection. I laughed so many times and when Errok gifted her her own Braxilk in the form of an egg, I cried.
Some things I loved:
Um he came within like 2 seconds because he was so overwhelmed with her. He was literally shaking.
When he opened up about his feelings and asked her not to leave him behind. Heart breaking. Loved it
His utter devotion. The yearning. So much yearning. It was perfect. The pay off was great. He just completely loved her
I'm also really excited to read more about Thaleo! He seems like such an interesting character. And I love the strong stoic types.
I'm also super excited about the new setting and learning about the Deep Sky!!

What I am not enjoying:
This is the most recent book in the series so now I'll be forced to wait until the next book which is killing me, very unfortunate 😭
I need mooooore!

3.5⭐️ cos I started enjoying it towards the end and I liked the H.

Same old stuff, new location.
I’ve come to the realization that I don’t like the way this author writes heroines, I almost never like any of them 😵‍💫I actually kinda hated the h at the beginning and it’s kind of annoying that the “new women” have been in this world for a little while now but they still don’t understand/care about the alien’s cultures/mate bond - like ????? Don’t be rude it shouldn’t be all about the human way when you live on a different planet at least have some understanding! Ugh

It gets better after halfway through, I enjoyed the book more towards the end. Really liked the H, he started off as an arrogant jerk but he got better.

lol.. was this an alien Pride and Prejudice retelling?

Fated mate < rejected mate. And I was getting major Elizabeth Bennet vibes from our human lady’s: “You have proven to me, without a shadow of a doubt, that I will never, could never, love you.” Shots fired, obviously 😆

This alien guy.. what is it with me and the meat-headed narcissist alien bros in this series? I find them absolutely hilarious!

Steph was really ignorant and there's even a certain point where I was do done with her! She had her issue and didn't know how to cope, but I seriously think her words were really unfounded and hurtful towards the H. I just found her really annoying and selfish overall LOL

Not for me

I've said this before and I reiterate, I feel sorry for these alien men. The women they get are annoying even by earthly standards but beyond obnoxious on alien planets. The heroine is 23 but reads like a 50 year old virgin, all he did was touch her hand for crying out loud.

This crew of women have been on this planet for over a year and have learnt the customs of these aliens but still treat their values, on their planet, like they are a joke. Valeria, a human, can issue orders to everyone and no one complains. A Gahn issues orders and suddenly it's a big deal. They are all happy to be fed and protected but oh no "don't even look at me because it feels like icy dread" plain ridiculous.

The mate bond is very real to these aliens, would it hurt to politely say no if you are not interested??? The poor alien didn't even do anything bad and the heroine made it out like he killed a million people and was drenched in their blood. We already know honour is something they live by, but no because we are human do what we tell you....

I really disliked the heroine and that made me get more and more irate about the drivel that kept on coming.

I stumbled across Ursa Dax and her romance Fated Mates of the Sea Sand Warlords series after finishing up reading books from another author. I wanted something a bit different from normal romance and decided that Sci Fi romance was the go because anything can go. Let me tell you I really enjoyed them and read the whole series one straight after the other,
Alien men in all sizes and shapes, all growly and protective of their mates was just what I needed. Of course, it takes a while for the abducted Human women to come around but that is just part of the fun.
Ursa’s world building makes it so easy to imagine the world she has created, and the characters are so easy to fall in love with.
If you love Sci Fi romance that is messy, sexy, a little alien erotica and fated mates then Ursa is your gal.
I was not disappointed, and I know you won’t be either.

Okay, I lied... THIS is my favorite one!! The last MMC and this MMC is the brother duo I need in every series! They're so unintentionally hilarious in their snark and Jesus... This guy's ego was beautifully hilarious. I absolutely ADORED the FMC, as well. Again, the settling for these two clans is just absolutely stunning!!

I'm so excited that the last two (and at least the next one) is about one hundred pages more than the previous of the series. I really think what Ursa Dax does with that extra hundred pages is legitimately the difference between 3 stars and 5 stars.

Quick(ish) Review

I jumped back into this series (it lost me when the MMCs were like ten feet tall monsters - a have some limits), and I liked it. Mostly because the MmC here is so arrogant and because of that, funny af. But it still has a heart as you learn why the FMC and the MmC have their defenses, making their HEA fun. I don’t know if I’ll keep reading but maybe I’ll check it out when it’s the Doberman-kangaroo heroes not the giant lizard monster ones 😂 😂😂

Guarded Heart vs Blazing Guns
“Sight stars on me”.

After a long awaited and desired visit from the Vrix, Errok travels across the lands to introduce himself to his lifelong hope and dream of a mate Stephanie… only to be rejected and deemed unworthy. Sore of heart but not of spirit, the battle for Steph’s heart begins, with only one acceptable outcome. She will be his.

Errok. An obnoxious gym bro, used to being top dog in everything and full of his own self-importance, suffers from a constant state of foot IN mouth when he is around Steph. Steph is a quiet meteorological expert and animal lover, going crazy with boredom. Having a low tolerance for those lacking in caring and kindness, she is instantly turned off by his disparagement of their home and holier than thou (thou being everyone but his mate) attitude (even if he does look like a fallen angel). A small group of the Sea Sand tribes travel to the Sky Clan lands to aid in storm detection to keep their people safe and well prepared.

My hearts hurt for Errok “faults and all”. To be shut down so thoroughly without being given a chance, it hurt me. And the constant rejections he faced? Despite his best efforts? Add resilience to his strengths. I laughed often at his antics (and snort laughed at his self-pleasuring to thoughts of Stephanie. I re-read the scene twice. Such joy). I adored the words of love, fear and honestly torn from him during moments “weakness”, as he prefers to present himself as a strong and proud male. I enjoyed Steph’s quiet (and sometimes not so quiet) strength and stance. She set boundaries and standards for what she expected from Errok at the beginning and refused to tolerate disrespect or him holding back.

Overall, I rated the book 4.8 stars. Thank you, Ursa, for gifting us with yet another great story. I will eventually buy all your books (when money stops being afraid of me).

P.S. I am beyond ready for Thaleo and who I HOPE is his mate Nasrin’s book (Australia Represent!). I am intrigued by how their dynamic will work. My brain shall be *poofed* regardless, since I have no expectations as to their story line... if it is them… 😊

I received an advanced copy for an honest review.

I had to really fight through this.
I'm entirely invested in this series so dropping it wasn't an option.
Stephanie is a problem, and one Errok does not deserve. Yeah, he's cocky and ridiculous but to the point of hilarity, not in an offensive manner. I feel like this woman has been on this planet long enough to understand what bonds mean to these men. She's jaded. I get it, but from one jaded woman to another, her behavior throughout this book was unreasonable and unacceptable. The mama bear act of the other women is a bit much too. After all this time, the culture of the men on this planet should prove now to everyone how sincere they are. Sure, protect them from each other, but besides that, what one earth is everyone so worried for?
This little cuss doesn't even give Errok a chance.
I cannot stand her one iota. Even after they were together, it didn't improve. She's so bossy with him and undeservedly so. It's like watching the beginning of a toxic relationship. Her selfishness and close-mindedness now rule their relationship and Errok is but a slave to it.
It's sad
I felt no joy reading this
Two stars for the Lerokan and Errok moments
And Gahn Thaleo, be still my beating heart

“I am lost, beloved. I am lost and I wish that you would find me.”

PLEASE!!! I can’t. Errok, step on my face please. I will not even ask you to change. He is so adorable and endearing and wonderful.

I am obsessed with Thaleon though and cannot wait for him to have his own book so I can project onto it and sob violently.

4.5 ⭐️

“I love you,” he rasped against my dampened skin. “I love you so much I can’t untangle it from obsession. I love your skin, your scent. Your anger and your joy. Your hair. Curse me, I love your hair so much I want to swallow it. Want to choke on it. Want to feel it slide across my cock. Get strangled by it.”

If you had told me that I would one day get all giggly about a book featuring a vain, overly arrogant alien gym bro, I wouldn’t have believed you. But what can I say, Ursa Dax’s writing itches my brain juuuuust right.

“Perfect creature of pain, wound me again. Hurt me with everything you have. Just don’t-” His mouth dragged against my pulsing throat as if trying to whimper right into my bloodstream. “Just don’t leave me behind.”

It was so nice to return to the Deep Sky territories yet again. I absolutely love everything about that region: the mountains, the flying braxilk, the windows made of see-through stone…

I agree with other reviews that the story didn’t have the best start. Both Errok and Stephanie were pretty annoying in the beginning. Our hero’s cockiness became grating real quick.

“You want me weak again, Zuh-Tephanie? Is that it? Fine. It’s your love that’s made me weak. I am weak in my need for you. Weak. Mad. Pained. I’m sick in my love-struck head and I’m convinced I’ll never be quite right again.”

But damn, if he doesn’t somehow manage to say the sweetest, most heart-wrenching things time and time again! I saw someone else liken this story to Pride and Prejudice and I definitely agree that Errok gives off major Mr. Darcy energy – and I’m talking both the good and the bad.

I’m honestly not the biggest Pride and Prejudice fan. I was rather late to reading it and I think having it hyped up so much certainly played a role in my disappointment. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good book. But as a sucker for mutual pining, it just didn’t live up to my expectations. After hearing so many people rave about it for years, I just yearned for more, you know?

Now, Alien Storm also didn’t deliver much on the mutual pining front, but that was expected. Going from hating an alien’s guts to falling hopelessly in love with him and making him your lifelong mate in 300-ish pages spanning a two or three weeks at most doesn’t leave a lot time for properly fleshing out that type of story. But Errok’s declarations of undying love made me kick my feet in a way that Mr. Darcy’s hardly ever did. I highlighted so many parts of the book that I truly had a hard time deciding on which quotes to include in this review.

Her hands cupped my jaw, her eyes shining and deep. “So, no, Errok. I won’t be the death of you. I’ll be the one dragging you back from the brink, every single time. Even if you fight me. Even if it hurts.”
I flinched, curling forward, my forehead bumping hers.
“It hurts now,” I gasped.
I hated that it hurt.
And I hated that I’d told her. I wanted to run. To hide. To throw up walls and laugh and make a mockery of the pain. I wanted to fight someone, beat someone, just to show her that I could. Even if it was only myself that I bested. Myself that I doomed.
“Where does it hurt?” she breathed, her fingertips fluttering down my neck to my shoulders.
She’s too warm, too soft, too beautiful and I can’t do this, I can’t-
“Nowhere.”
Everywhere.
My head and my cock and the hole of my heart and everywhere, everywhere, everywhere.

I really enjoyed how they both struggled with showing weakness in front of each other only to ultimately bond over that shared insecurity. It really makes Errok and his self-important behaviour a lot more likeable. I also quite liked Stephanie. Her love for storms and the way that was used in the prose was just *chef’s kiss*

Gahn Errok had been called by the Vrika, and he is the most arrogant and egotistical Gang outside of Gahn Fallo and demands that all the women who looks like his mate be brought to him immediately. Gahn Razrek and his mate had come to setup an alliance with the sixth tribe only to find out their were two tribes residing there in the blue mountains. One if the settlement warriors was shot badly and one of the human women was taken by one of the warring parties. Razek and his mate left to bring back help for the warrior and to find Priya. Valeria brought reinforcements to the rescue and found where Priya was with the Gahn's brother. Error had to go to the settlement in order to meet his mate.
Stephanie is one the tech persons in the settlement who can help determine when the storms will hit and where so they are setting up a substation in the mountains and Stephanie is going with four other single women. Before they leave Gahn Errok arrives and just acts a total idiot thinking he was better than anybody else there but was humiliated by the very woman he thought would fall at his hoofs with the mating bond but was badly misinformed.
This a very funny, adventurous love story in this series. The characters keeps you reading. I read an Arc without obligation. I volunteered an honest review.

“She could lead me off the edge of a cliff if she wanted.
I would not give a peep of opposition.
As long as she held my hand.”

Who is the strongest and fairest and mightiest of them all? Errok! If you only would ask him. He will do ANYTHING for his mate, Stephanie, to recognize him as the superior being that he is. But Stephanie is secretly the mighty one. She is empathic and brave. She has no fear! Okay maybe a little bit when it comes to Errok. Both are stubborn as hell and with Errok, the drama queen everyone needs in their life, it is even more fun to read. The spice was so intimate you need a fan and a snowstorm outside to cool down.

I Can Never Get Enough of this Series!

I was nervous I wouldn’t be a fan of Ghan Errok after the last book. He seemed like the over the top alpha type, which can get annoying after a while. But thankfully I was only half right!

He’s definitely the domineering stereotypical Ghan we saw a lot in this series, but he’s easily one of my favorites. I loved getting to see the vulnerability hidden under his egotistical demeanor.

Stephanie and Errok’s relationship development throughout the story was so natural despite the fast pace. You’ll get addicted to their enemies-to-lovers dynamic right away!

Overall, another great addition to my favorite alien romance series. Can’t wait to see what happens for the rest of the humans and their mates! (I’m really hoping Ghan Thaleo’s story next)

WOW! A 5 Star read like no other!

Ursa Dax has out done herself. This is by far the best book of the series, and that’s saying something because they’re all incredible. Errok is arrogant, infuriating, and oh so full of desire for his mate. Watching him break down his walls under his human mate’s small hands is a delight. Stephanie is equally as wonderful. Her past traumas lead to some thick walls of her own, and she needs to do some wall breaking too. But wow, when this slow burn kicks off, it is all fire. Or as Dax says, a storm! I loved every minute of it. And I cannot wait for the next.

Stephanie is one of the most annoying fmc I've read in a while. The women have been on this planet for too long to be so disrespectful towards the culture of the sea sand warriors. They are aware of what is important to the warriors yet ignore them because it's not like that on earth. Hello? We're not on earth anymore. I want to see this series through but this book was such a pain and a drag. It basically became a means to an end for me. Errok really wasn't as bad as Stephanie and the other women made it seem. He is a king among his people and the human women refuse to afford him that respect because of what? His arrogance? The disrespect of the culture is annoying, unfunny and it drags. The only redeeming quality was that it was a relatively quick read. I wish at this point of this series we would see more understanding from the women and more integration of cultures. That's the beauty of alien romance. Not this weird line in the sand standoff that seems to be happening in the series right now. Finally, I know the author is trying to write a strong fmc but being jaded, disrespectful, hurtful and just plain rude is not it. The drawing board needs to be revisited with these female leads.

P.S. it is unfair that Stephanie wants Errok's vulnerability when she won't even give him a fair chance or tell him that she wants to try this mate thing.

The real ugly truth of this series comes rearing back to remind me why I have issues with this series and the women in it. Stephanie is told/reminded that she is a pawn, a dangly tidbit for Errok to join the alliance when she (finally) confronts Thaleo about his real reason for bringing them (her specifically) to his mountain. Instead of being upset about that, she chooses to side with the women in understanding their use of the whole "oh you have a mate with the new women? Sorry, you don't even get to see her unless you bend to our (really Chapman's) will", and gets upset all over again at Errok because he wouldn't have budged otherwise with Thaleo wanting to expand his land due to the storms. I hate that all (most) of the women in this series are basically bitchy, opinionated, judgemental, and overbearing and that the author takes these men in the series with all their strengths and crushes them into submission. Every man is brought to his knees and weakened to make the woman seem stronger. Their culture? Fuck the alien culture all together and ruin it with human laws and ways. The only opinions that matter are that of the women, sorry, the HUMAN women because even the alien women take the back seat in these books.

I've said it before in one of my earlier reviews (possibly the book with Kat in it), but it reminds me too much of what natives had to go through with settlers coming from overseas and taking their land and giving them nothing in return. Every book by her in this series I'm reminded a little more how it's just too similar, though not as violent obviously. I'm surprised they haven't just gotten them to completely forsake the ways of the Lavrika/Vrika/Kell all together since they've basically ruined their culture and made a weapon out of that sacred blood.

Now this book (aside from the series as a whole) is obviously not my favorite, not even close. Yes, Errok was an asshole, a typical gym bro who thinks he's God's gift to women everywhere but Stephanie's character isn't any better to be honest, and Valeria is turning into Chapman 2.0. All the other men involved just follow orders blinding or grunt agreements behind their overbearing female mates and the new female group (Fiona, Tilly, and Nasrin) are probably going to be the most annoying group of all of the series if and when they get their own books.

My main problem though is as I mentioned above, this author enjoys taking strong men and making them weak, making them beg. I don't know who hurt this author to make her hate men this way but it shows. She should be making the couple stronger together without ruining the man in the process.

Oh and their sexy fun times together were a disappointment at best. Errok has been with other females before but you wouldn't get that from their time together. He lasts all of 10 seconds at best when she touches him, and is then when he's going down on her almost does again.. Even his brother lasted longer and he was a virgin... so yeah.. let's make Errok the complete opposite of how he appears on the outside. Later near the end of the book Errok becomes even more of her simp and lets her tie him up... yeah, let's just completely destroy his masculinity and strength and make him a begging, mindless simp who is pretty much her sub too.

And that whole comment about how it's not only him that changed but that she has changed too is a friggen lie. She's the same person. She didn't grown, didn't change. None of the females do. They remain mostly themselves while the last bit of men... not so much.

After reading this one, I need a break again. I know the next one is supposed to be different than the others but I don't doubt that this author will make the male strong before crushing him to bits and I don't feel like reading that again so soon.

💜 “I am lost, beloved. I am lost and I wish that you would find me. Hold me. Touch me. Train me. Tame me. Make me into something worthy, or unmake me. Just please... Please don’t leave me behind.”
~~~
If you think the mighty Lerokan is a drama queen and is so full of himself, wait till you meet his big bro! Gahn Errok of the Deep Sky is the strongest of the strong, the mightiest of the mighty, the stormiest of the storms that ever stormed. And I still can’t decide if he should open a gym center (#bouldersquats4life) or a drama school (#iwanttochokeonyourhair). But Gahn Errok is so much more than his arrogant butt and giant ego. That male has so many layers, you’re going to love discovering every single one of them. He might be snarky, impatient, loud-mouthed, brooding, lethal, dangerous and dramatic. And life might've forced him to grow harder and closed-off to protect himself. But Errok is one fiercely protective, loyal, strong, gorgeous and kind male and so irresistibly charming in his Errokness. He is absolutely spectacular and I adored every single thing about him!!!
And Stephanie is one wonderful woman! She’s so kind, smart, compassionate, helpful and caring. But her past made her protective of herself and she doesn't open up easily to others. Nevertheless, I loved how fierce and strong she could be when needed. And she was not afraid to stand up even to the mightiest warriors. Stephanie is so amazing and I loved her so, so much!
Everything that happened between Errok and Stephanie was absolutely phenomenal. The Deep Sky Gahn has been craving a mate for years and, when the Vrika shows him her face, he’s determined to have her by any means necessary. And, when he meets her, for the first time in his life, the mighty Gahn was found lacking. I had so much fun with all the ways he tried to impress Stephanie and how she was having none of it! Their constant push and pull gave me the best kind of emotional rollercoaster. Even more, their banters were spectacular and an absolute delight to witness. I just adored those two together - they were so perfect for each other! Both were so headstrong and stubborn. But when they finally opened up to each other and showed sides of themselves no one has ever seen… imnotcryingyourecrying🥺! And when they finally gave in to their undeniable need for one another, the spicy moments they shared were blazing hot! Stephanie and Errok were insatiable for each other and I was all in for the passionate ride!
In addition, the storyline was spectacular! I loved that we got to explore more of the Deep Sky tribes’ land. And, of course, witnessing Errok and Lerokan showing their brotherly love to each other the only way they can. 😂 Even more, with the new tribes added to the alliance, there are still tensions between the two Deep Sky tribes but it looks like Gahn Errok and Gahn Thaleo might become best frenemies after all!
Overall, the story is another remarkable addition to the series! It’s filled with humor, danger, drama, suspense, action, violence, adventure, scorching hot romance and magnificent characters.
I couldn’t put it down and absolutely loved every single page of it!
This was a solid one! More slow burn than others in the series. Some of the angsty failure to communicate bits probably could have been a bit shorter.
Errok, while having similar cultural values and traditions as the Sea Sand warriors, has some differences as a Deep Sky warrior that kept this feeling less repetitive. He's extremely arrogant but Ursa Dax managed to make it more funny than frustrating. I liked that by the end, he's humbled a bit, but he's still got an ego and isn't wholly changed overnight or anything. It's clear that Errok and Stephanie will be changing and improving together.
I liked the storm parallels between Errok being described like a storm and Stephanie studying storms. Gotta love Errok's eloquent take on it:
"She said I was like a storm and that she loves storms. I will become the stormiest storm that ever stormed over these mountains."
Stephanie's personal background that shaped who she is today and how she's ended up on this planet is handled decently well. About half way through, Errok tells Stephanie they're more alike than she thinks because
“Neither one of us,” he said softly, “wants to be weak. Especially in front of others.”
She thinks about it in the moment and agrees (silently, to herself). It would have been nice to see glimpses of that fear during the first half of the book like we did with Errok. It would have made this moment more powerful. We do see a lot more of this in her thoughts the latter half of the book, though.
The best part, however, is that Stephanie is a Horse Girl (tm) who immediately sees the similarities in riding a braxilk, the winged, beaked, many-legged mounts who are more intelligent than the desert irkdu. I like the descriptions of riding, the way riding was a sense of belonging and home for Stephanie, and also gave a feeling of freedom.
I also enjoyed the change in scenery again to the mountain area that sounds impossible but oh so pretty. It was nice also getting to see some of the other characters again, like Lerokan, Priya, Valeria, and so on. I wish we had a little bit more of some of the other characters sometimes after their books are over. Like if there was more integration of characters into each other's lives.
Yes, I'm still concerned these women are all gonna get scurvy and severe malnutrition by the way they don't have a single fruit or vegetable to eat, only meat and valok. Apparently the mountains also offer eggs and milk. I had concerns about the complete lack of prenatal care on top of the malnutrition until I remember these fetuses baking are hybrids and probably much better suited to the limited diet as a result.
𝐑𝐄𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐖/𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒:
This series is totally one of my top-faves. I'm always excited for each book! Errok is totally arrogant and dickish and overly-dramatic. But just read the book and you'll see he's also none of those things. What a total "judge a book by its cover" character. And my God did this poor guy just need some love! I swear if I have a sea sand mate who came to claim me and show-off his form by doing squats while holding a bolder on his shoulders I would say, "TAKE ME I'M YOURS!"
But for real though, from the moment the book started I just wanted someone to give Errok all the love and hugs possible. I was super happy to see it didn't take Stephanie (too) long to start realizing her feelings, and that there was more to Errok than first impressions. Once these two broke down their walls it was such a lovely heat fest of love that it made my heart sigh and flap away on a tidal wave of warmth and happiness.
Oh and when these two frack, they FRACK. They frack real good. 🔥
I adored this story, as I do every book in this series. And, as always, I'm super excited for the next book. I'm always looking forward to each side character getting a book. I think I'm excited for the next book, but then I start reading and I'm excited for the next book! It's a neverending cycle. And I love it.
Thank you a million times Ursa for sending me an ARC. I haven't gotten reviews up for previous books because in my addiction for all things Sea Sand, I've done a bit of binge reading.... sorry, not sorry? Lol I hope to remedy that over time! The Sea Sand hunkies are definitely deserving of rereads. 👌
No, just no. I really tried. I devour most of these books in hours. A day at most depending on responsibilities and this one took me a week. I could not stand these characters and their inconsistencies. Growth is one thing but this pairing was ridiculous. The main female lead was completely irrational, biting off heads at every turn - which I found abominable. There is another "feisty," character in the series and I'm convinced this author does not know how to portray complex characters who have short fuses. The male character was described as arrogant and incorrigible but so have most of the other male leads been? So I was confused? The spicy scenes did nothing for me because I did not connect with this pair so I all but skipped the last third of this book.
That said, the descriptions of the backgrounds, exploring more of the world of the deep sky mountains was lovely. Although I feel we got more of that from book 12.
I pushed myself to complete this book to get more of the overarching story of the incoming human attack and there was next to no mention at all? The teasing of the "winged god," from the bitter sea men stories was absolutely ignored as well. Disappointed, would not read again. The previous book was great. Hoping the next one is better, or I am probably done with the series. It's been 13 books with slow burn build-up of this big bad alien/god threat and unfortunately very little payout. I know the smut is probably a big seller of these but I much prefer when the characters have chemistry, there is a good plot and the bigger story gets told.
Series: Fated Mates of the Sea Sand Warlords #13
Rating: 2.5 stars
Ghan Errok has wished for a mate for years. Now that his mate has been revealed he is determined to have her and bring her back to the Deep Sky Mountains. But Stephanie isn’t having it. She doesn’t appreciate his arrogance and cockiness so she pushes him away. But as time passes she realizes that there is more to Errok than the arrogant and cocky side he shows to others.
I was apprehensive about this book because I didn’t like Gahn Errok in the previous book. He was too cocky and arrogant for my liking, and sadly, my feelings didn’t change much with this book. Errok is arrogant, cocky, and extremely dramatic. He expects Stephanie to just fall at his feet and worship him since she is his mate and he doesn’t take it well when that doesn’t happen. I found him annoying and unlikable for the majority of this book. Even when he did start showing his true side, I still found him a bit too much.
Stephanie I liked for the most part. She doesn’t let Errok push her around or get his way. She makes him confront his feelings and voice them, not hide behind the perfect image of masculinity. I was expecting more of her meteorologist background to come into play, but it really felt like it was just tacked on in sections.
Overall, this was just ok for me. Since I didn’t like Errok it muffled my enjoyment of the whole book. I am interested in seeing who will fall in love next. Also I wonder what is happening with the human military.
TW: death of parents mentioned; injuries and blood; rockslide that leads to people being trapped;
A round of claps for @ursadaxauthor for writing this book and me for Errok. Oh, sorry Errok already has a mate.
I envy as well as don't envy Stephanie. I love how much Errok loves her and how he is obsessed with her but the work they had to put up to get to that point makes me cry.
The Plot:
The plot was quite simple but the to-and-fro moments between Errok and Stephanie gave me stress and made the plot special. The book was a pageturner through and through and a quick read with lots of fun and banter. The character development was immaculate.
The MMC:
Errok was introduced as a typical Alpha male with an ego to match his strength who thinks that they can command the world. The moment he meets Stephanie he ends up insulting all the people she cares for and that lands him straight on his to-be mates shit list (a place he has never been before?) and I enjoyed every second of it. I loved seeing his self-assured self stumbling on his own feet while dealing with Stephanie. He was celibate for almost 15 years and I liked that he did not immediately perform like a bull the first time.
The FMC:
Stephanie is a weather forecaster for the human women settlement and looks out for the storms. She is a hyper-independent woman and stands up for herself in every situation. She has a spice of steel and the willpower to match it to. She has a few attachment issues as a result of her difficult past but she is brave enough to not let it hinder her relationship with Errok and her future.
To conclude I enjoyed the story and hope you enjoy it too.
Happy Reading
