This story is about the season, autumn! It describes what happens during this season change, what clothing to wear, and what type of activities you can do during autumn! The pictures are lovely and would be I would present this book during season changes!
When doing a lesson about seasons, the fall when the leafs start to change. This would be an excellent book to read to the class. Learning about the season of fall. Also this book plays into the rhyming words, so students can identify rhyming words in the text.
In my field class, my teacher read this to the students on the first day of fall. The book talked about all the things that happen in fall. Such as how the weather changes, leaves change color and fall, and some information about thanksgiving! The book was very good to teach yournger students about what happens in fall.
I loved this book because it makes learning about a new season fun. This book could be read multiple times throughout the year like during fall, at the beginning of the year, before winter, or when teaching on seasons. This book is full of many fun fall activities that each child could relate to. It also encourages children to think about their favorite fall activities.
This is a perfect story to introduce the season of fall. It goes over the many fun activities that represent this season such as leaf piles and camping as well as fall animals like bears and foxes. I love how the ending shows the beginning of winter. This story introduces the topic of weather and a lot of good activities can stem from it.
I think the pictures are cute and colorful. The story line is ok, it is educational but they can make it more fun. I think they can add a little more to the book to make it more appealing to the readers.
One of my very favorite picture books. Every time I read it, I'm instantly transported to the joy of warm drinks and comfy clothes on cool autumn days.
I was not crazy about this book. But it is a very educational book, it didn’t have any cultural diversity in it. The illustration is a little dated, so an update is definitely needed.
This book is wonderfully written and is whimsically illustrated. With the text rolling and weaving through the pages they are fully illustrated, in what appears to be a bight water color style. The story follows a family through the fall season, as they help with a harvest, then attend a fair, spend time outside together enjoying life, nature and each other. My daughter loved it immediately and wanted to do some of the stuff in the story.
This story is fiction and is for Kindergarten or 1st grade. This book is a cute read for younger children and you can do a writing with this book about fall and leaves changing colors. This book also shows children enjoying different activities that students can relate to during fall time.
Let It Fall is a delightful reader for young ones (ages 3-6) learning about the seasons. I really like how the book makes the reader *feel* the chilling times of fall, through both art and text.
[Bonus soapbox moment of picture book philosophy: Also, it was so nice to see an actual *in-tact* family for once--it's practically become politically incorrect to show a father, a mother, and several children all from the same family, living happily, doing many family activities together. There's nothing wrong with showing other, non-traditional families as well (which are not depicted in this book), but it's nice once in a while to see that the publishing world has not forgotten the "old-normal" (as opposed to the "new normal" of non-traditional families....only 1 parent, or no parents & 1 or two grandparents, or mixed/blended families, etc. Those are important to see often in picture & chapter books, but we've become inundated with them, to the point where kids from traditional families have come to feel like they're abnormal and not OK anymore). I'm very happy the author/illustrator chose to bravely go the "old-normal" route in her depictions for Let It Fall.]
Let it Fall by Maryann Cocca-Leffler is a great book for little children starting from preschool to maybe first grade. The story is written in rhymes about the season of autumn. Each illustration shows what the autumn season brings and how the kids enjoy every moment of it, from going back to school, to racking leaves and then of course jumping into those leaves.
The words are simply written for beginner readers and make it easy to understand and remember with the rhymes. The illustrations help tell the story with each watercolor scene.
This book Let it Fall would be a wonderful book to introduce young children to the season of autumn. It can also give kids and even adults activates on things to do during the season. I would recommend it for any young beginner reader. Great for teachers to use for a returning to school read out loud book, followed up by an autumn activity.
Cocca-Leffler, M. (2010). Let it fall. New York: Cartwheel Books.
This cute book is a nice introduction to the Autumn season reminding us of all the special things we can see, feel and do this time of year. The short rhyming text flows nicely and would be great for beginning readers. The pictures are soft and full of expression as the family rakes leaves that blow in the wind, attend the county fair, view the beautiful colors while hiking and pass a few animals getting ready for the cold changes themselves. This book put me in the mood for some caramel apples!
