I’m finally going to Blood Rose Academy, where I’ll be trained in witch magic, and I can’t wait…

Except Blood Rose Academy isn’t exactly how I hoped it would be.

First off, the witches are all catty and hex-happy, and I’ve been targeted as their newest victim.

And if that weren’t bad enough, there’s a longstanding feud between the witches and the vampires, which means all vampires hate the witches and vice-versa.

Maybe that wouldn’t suck so hard (no pun intended) if I didn’t sorta, kinda have a crush on one of the vamps—a loner named Rook, who happens to be the headmaster’s son.

But Rook doesn’t even know I exist. Well… it’s actually worse: he does know I exist, but he’s made it pretty clear he can’t stand me.

Fun times!

The ‘fun’ only increases when I learn that a handful of Fae students have gone missing and my only friend, a faerie named Oleander, insists there’s foul play.

Suddenly recruited into a club of rebels, I find myself helping them to solve the mystery of the missing students.

And guess who happens to be in this club?

Right—Rook.

To say he’s unhappy to see me is an understatement. Now, if I could just train my wayward heart to get over him… things might start looking up.

Between battling my own kind, trying to keep from getting drained by the vamps, searching for the missing students, and uncovering my own shocking truths, I’m wondering if I should have just stayed home.

Fantastic New Addition to the Haven Hollow Collection

This is the 26th book in the Haven Hollow series. Most of the series falls in the Paranormal Women’s Fiction genre, however this one is an Academy book with a twist.

I enjoyed this book much more than I thought I might. It was actually quite the page turner and I’m delighted to have been wrong in my assumptions. I’m not usually one for Academy books but as I have read all the other Haven Hollow books, I wanted to include this one. I have to say, it’s an excellent addition to the Haven Hollow collection. It’s predominantly set outside of Haven Hollow and follows the adventures of Astrid, Wanda’s 18 year old niece, as she starts her formal magical education at Blood Rose Academy.

We have seen Astrid throughout the rest of the series as a secondary character, so it was nice to see more of her as the main character.

In this book we are exposed to the wider world of magic and the paranormal, as well as finding more about Astrid’s own lineage as her magic springs to life in most unexpected ways.

A sinister plan being hatched by the vampires comes to light and if not stopped in its tracks, could have disastrous consequences for all magical beings. I’m actually very excited about reading the next one.

The Haven Hollow series is written from a variety of points of view and features stories from Wanda’s Witchery, Poppy’s Potions, Spook Society, Haven Homes, Remarkable Remedies, Princess Procedural and Blood Rose Academy. They all run in parallel with each other. The reading order so far is:

Gypsy Magic : Poppy’s Potions (Haven Hollow, Book 1)
Cashmere Curses : Wanda’s Witchery (Haven Hollow, Book 2)
Faery Enchantment : Poppy’s Potions (Haven Hollow, Book 3)
Spandex Sorcery : Wanda’s Witchery (Haven Hollow, Book 4)
Love’s Goddess : Poppy’s Potions (Haven Hollow, Book 5)
Demon in Denim : Wanda’s Witchery (Haven Hollow, Book 6)
Taffeta Trickery : Wanda’s Witchery (Haven Hollow, Book 7)
The Black Cat Cocktail Club : Poppy’s Potions (Haven Hollow, Book 8)
French Country Frights : Haven Homes (Haven Hollow, Book 9)
All Hallows Eve : Remarkable Remedies (Haven Hollow, Book 10)
Mystic Veil : Poppy’s Potions (Haven Hollow, Book 11)
The Yule Log : Remarkable Remedies (Haven Hollow, Book 12)
The Broken Mirror : Remarkable Remedies (Haven Hollow, Book 13)
Art Deco Apparitions : Hallowed Homes (Haven Hollow, Book 14)
The Vampire’s Grave : Remarkable Remedies (Haven Hollow, Book 15)
Herringbone Hexes : Wanda’s Witchery (Haven Hollow, Book 16)

Astrid is so excited that she is finally going to the famed Blood Rose Academy. Where she will be training in witch magic. But things aren't all rosy at the academy. Witches are hex happy and really catty. They have made Astrid their newest victim and throw in the long standing feud between the witches and vampires. Which puts Astrid in a dilemma because there are feelings for a certain vampire named Rook. The man runs hot and cold around her. One min he is all well swoon worthy and the next he is pushing her out the door. Then there are missing students and the secrets that are hidden in the walls of the school. Will Astrid be able to keep it together and not get kicked out or bitten by a vampire . With the help of her friends she just might survive.
Astrid is back and striking out on her own and trying to fit in. There is so much going on with this young woman. We see her coming into her own but there is also so much we didn't know about her that we are finding out, like her parentage. She is stronger then anyone realizes and will do what it takes to figure out what to do. We also get to meet Rook who well is swoon worthy but like all vampires he runs hot and cold . There is also sadness to him that you really want to figure out. There are so many new characters that we get to meet like her new best friends. I can't wait to see how everyone comes together.
I was so excited to finally see Astrid head to school but who knew how much trouble that could go on in one school. I love Astrid and I love that she is growing up and becoming more and more a strong woman in her own right. The authors have added another level to the series and have added new characters while keeping the main characters fresh and relative. This was a fun fast read that I couldn't put down. I really love this series and can't wait to see what happens in Haven Hollow and Blood Rose Academy. With the people Astrid has in her life I can see the walls falling down around the academy when Wanda and the rest of the family show up to help out Astrid. I really hope we get to finally meet Astrid's dad and finally figure out what his end game will be . You can read this as a stand alone but I would read the other books to get to know everyone. Check it out and let me know.

I thoroughly enjoyed this storyline. I knew Astrid was going to go away to school but didn't know we would be invited along on her adventure. And I certainly didn't see her parentage coming. It really changes how I look at some things. I'm ready for the next installment!

Gripping! Page turner til the end!

The way each character has been given individual growth has endeared them all to me on a deeper level than if told strictly from the same point of view. The while series is worth investing time!

I’m in love with Astrid!

I’m loving her viewpoint in this part of the hollow stories. This is definitely not what I anticipated it would be about. However, these two write amazing novels, so it’s no surprise!

hmm, not sure

I’ve really enjoyed this series but am not excited about everyone getting bitten and turned into vampires. Why? It’s becoming more of same old same old. Sigh 😞

I really liked this story line in this series. My only complaint is that it was divided into two books, but it did make sense that the author did it that way.

I have loved the Haven Hollow series since book one. Full of wonderful characters, excellent storylines, and a perfectly created setting, I immerse myself in each and every book. There are multiple spin-offs that focus on one of the main characters, and Blood Rose is told from Astrid's POV. She finally gets to go to Blood Rose Academy to be properly trained in witch magic. Astrid's world comes crashing down when she realizes the Academy isn't at all what she had hope it would be. She is on the end of a lot of hazing, and right in the middle of a feud between the witches and the vampires. Learning about missing Fae just adds to her misery.

Astrid's book is by far one of my absolute favorites in the series. I love them all but Blood Rose was
exceptional. I love Astrid's character and love that she got her own spin-off. Astrid is a wonderfully written character. She's so likable and her attitude and personality is so different than the witches at Blood Rose. I'm excited to see how everything goes in the next book. Blood Rose left a lot of things hanging.

The series also just continues to get better and better with every story. Blood Rose is the first book in the Blood Rose Academy series (and book 26 in the Haven Hollow series) by H.P. Mallory and J.R. Rain. This writing duo brings interesting stories, intriguing characters, and thought-provoking mysteries to life. The character development provides history and growth, and the world-building creates a fantastic world to watch the characters do their thing.
