Meet Artist Georges Seurat! Getting to Know the World's Greatest Artists series combines a delightful mix of full-color historical reproductions, photos, and hilarious cartoon-style illustrations that bring to life the works of renowned artists, combining poignant anecdotes with important factual information for readers (Ages 8-9).This book presents the life and career of the nineteenth-century French Neo-Impressionist artist Georges Seurat, best known for inventing the painting technique known as Pointillism.
This series is okay--nothing really wrong with it, but the text is not engaging--the one thing you get is a look at the famous paintings, and since Seurat is so different from many painters, that is alot for him in particular. But I would get it out of the library rather than owning these--I wish I knew of a series on artists that was great.
This is a great way to introduce children to a famous artist and the art that made him so well known. Seurat invented Pointillism, a method of painting using only dots; much like pixels we see in computers. So as you can tell, there are a lot of real world connections within this book!
Getting to Know the World's Greatest Artists, Georges Seurat is another nice edition in this fantastic collection by Mike Venezia. These books are perfect for exposing elementary and junior high aged students to a large variety of artists and styles of art in a memorable way.
