Nice book by Oscar De La Hoya that teaches children the importance of following through when asked to do something. Spanish is just hard enough for beginners...I liked this book. I can see Oscar De La Hoya doing more books like this in the future. Will be sure to look and see if he writes more books - a nice change of pace!

This book is about a boy named Oscar and he was a daydreamer and always seemed to get too caught up day dreaming. On every Saturday in his neighborhood they had a picnic in the park and people played lots of games and ate food and his mom was in charge of making the lists and he runs them to all the houses in the neighborhood but he forgot this time. His mom said they had to cancel the picnic but he said he got it and ran to the store and got everything and made all the food just in time for the picnic. I think this is a good book because it has the text in English and in Spanish so it would be a good book for a Spanish speaker who is learning English to see the translation.

This was the first book I read in Spanish. It’s is bilingual, so I was able to check new words.

Pros: Latino hero, parents can tell kids the author apparently was a frequent daydreamer (or was that also fiction?) who grew up to be Olympic medal winner

Cons: Oscar would need superpowers to get the party prepared as portrayed, but caped "Super Oscar" doesn't appear until end of book. Family exercise tips at end might suggest it was being physically fit that allowed Oscar to work so quickly, but that wouldn't explain the singing squirrels...

A great set up but it seems there are too many messages to make this a great picture book. It is told in both English and Spanish a story about Oscar delaHoya as a young boy dreaming away and forgetting to let the neighborhood know what they are suppose to bring to the picnic.

I enjoyed this bilingual picture book. I especially liked how it combined cartoony illustrations with photos of food and the message in the back (in both Spanish and English) about ways in which to have children be more active was helpful.
