Her best friends are her mother and her sister, Dannis Spaeth (Cole), who now has two daughters, Amanda Belle Hofstetter and Maggie and lives in Utah. Susan grew up reading Zane Grey and fell in love with cowboys. Susan is a former newspaper reporter, with sixteen years experience on both daily and weekly newspapers. Inspired by her husband, who quit a blue-collar manufacturing job to return to school and get his diploma in computer programming, Susan herself went back to college as a day student at the age of 45. In 1995, she graduated summa cum laude from Piedmont College, Demorest, GA, with a major in history and a double minor in archaeology and Spanish. She was named to two honor societies (the Torch Club and Alpha Chi), and was named to the National Dean's List. In addition to her writing projects, she is currently working on her master's degree in history at California State University. She hopes to specialize in Native American studies. She is a member of the Native American Rights Fund, the American Museum of Natural History, the National Cattlemen's Association, the Archaeological Institute of Amenca, the Planetary Society, The Georgia Conservancy, the Georgia Sheriff's Association, and numerous conservation and charitable organizations. Her hobbies include gardening, archaeology, anthropology, iguanas, astronomy and music.

In 1998, her husband retired from his own computer business and now pursues skeet shooting medals in local, state, national and international competition. They love riding around and looking at the countryside, watching sci-fi on TV and at the movies, just talking and eating out.

In this review I am just rating the book by Diana Palmer. This was a truly amazing book in that the heroine while scared is beautiful and sweet and the hero is just so so. I think I loved this book so much because of the brothers. They are the best and I loved each and every one of their books. My favourite being Beloved with Simon. This book is the first book that started this series. The whole Christmas gift thing was so cute. I loved this book it was a great read. I felt everything. And it was easy to follow. No plot within a plot.
Re read this one during the holiday season just for fun. Enjoyable and captivating.
Keeper.
This is why she was my favourite for so many years.

innocent Virgin heroine + older hero and with aversion to marriage + Brothers steal the scene + hilarious scenes + hot scenes

Christmas Cowboy (Diana Palmer)
"He was so very masculine, a mature man with a cold temper and an iron will."
==========
"Corrigan said often that he wasn't the marrying kind. He didn't want ties. He made that very clear, because there was never any discussions of taking her to meet his brothers. He kept her away from their ranch."
==========
"He'd treated her to a scalding lecture about girls who teased."
==========
"Dorie had been in love with him, and his emotional rejection had broken something fragile inside her. But she hadn't been about to let him see her pain."
==========
"After that sordid evening, Dorie cut her losses and bought a bus ticket."
==========
"He put her cold hands into the thick hair on his chest and moved them while his hard mouth took slow, sweet possession of her lips."
==========
"Her blouse was pushed up with a shivering urgency, and seconds later, her bare breasts were buried in the thick hair that covered his chest and abdomen."
==========
"Your nipples are like rocks against me."
==========
"She couldn't think at all. When he took one of her hands and pressed it to his lower body, she didn't even have the will to protest. Her hand opened and she let him move it gently against him, on fire with the need to touch him."
==========
"I've never known one who could be satisfied by a man's mouth suckling at her breast. It was the most beautiful experience I've ever had."
==========
"I haven't touched a woman since you left Jacobsville," he said huskily. "I haven't been a man since then."

Christmas Cowboy is a short novella that focuses on Corrigan Hart and Dorie Wayne’s story.

Corrigan Hart is one of the famous Hart Brothers. He was known for his cold temper and iron will. And he’s set his sights on Dorie Wayne. Never to pull his punches before, Corrigan made his intentions about right at the start. He was drawn to her. He wanted her. Dorie Wayne was eighteen when she met Corrigan. As a minister’s daughter, she was raised to have a conventional outlook on life. Even though she loved him, she wouldn’t let herself settle for an affair. She wanted a home, a husband, children, and everything, and he made clear that he wanted no part of marriage or a family. That he only wanted to sleep with her. So she left town and never came back until her father passed away eight years later.

I enjoyed reading their story. Although it was short, Ms. Palmer could still give us a wonderful tale about second chances. I was prepared to dislike Corrigan for treating her that way. But when I learned why he didn’t like the idea of marriage, I began to understand him. And I liked the fact that he hasn’t touched a woman since Dorie left (for eight years.). He’s becoming a hermit. Poor guy.

I admired Dorie. She’s such a strong woman and has so much self-respect that even though she loved him desperately, she didn’t give in to his selfish demands. I enjoyed reading about the Hart brothers and their love for biscuits. I loved how they helped Corrigan to get Dorie. It was pretty hilarious and endearing. Poor Dorie, she doesn't stand a chance. It was just a waste that they waited eight years to have their happy ending finally. But I guess no matter how long it takes, true love is always worth the wait.

This book has two short stories featured around Christmas. This is the first time I have read either of these authors. Although they are short stories I found the first story to be too fast paced and the ending abrupt. I found the second story to be a little better; it seemed to go along at a regular pace and I got to know the characters a little better. I would have appreciated if the stories had a little more to engage me as a reader. They are showing that this book is part of a series from both authors and maybe that's why I didn't feel like I knew the characters well (because I never read any other books in the series); nevertheless they weren't terrible for a quick read.

A 2 for 1 book

#1 Christmas Cowboy by Palmer
Corrigan Hart has been in pursuit of Dorie Wayne since she was eighteen. He had pushed her too far and she was scared of him. So she ran away. Years had passed and now she was coming home. Would he still be there? Could she be in the same town with him now? I enjoyed the story and all the Hart brothers made the story fun too.

#2 A Hawk's Way Christmas by Johnston

Gavin Talbot found Rolleen Whitelaw crying in the hospital linen closet. That was the beginning of a friendship? love? marriage? or maybe nothing at all. A good story.

LONE STAR CHRISTMAS contains two novellas that are part of the Long Tall Texans and Hawk's Way series. While I read both, I'm not likely to read any books in the Hawk's way series for a while. My main concern in reading this book was to find out more about Corrigan Hart and his now wife, Dorie.

In the novella titled CHRISTMAS COWBOY, Corrigan reconnects with his former girl-friend Dorie Wayne. Dorie's fear of Corrigan drove her away from Jacobsville, Texas when she was eighteen. She ran off to New York to become a model but found only heartache instead. Meanwhile, Corrigan has become a recluse and all his brothers and the citizens of Jacobsville know, or suspect, is that he is mourning his lost relationship with Dorie. When Dorie returns to settle her father's affairs after his death, she reveals to a friend that she really wants to come home to Jacobsville and who's standing in the café when she reveals this? Corrigan Hart. The Hart boys are known for fast wedding preparations, especially if biscuits are involved and they want to see their brother Corrigan happy and married to a good cook. With Christmas fast approaching, Corrigan does his manner of courting with the help of his brothers. Their methods are hilarious and endearing and Dorie doesn't stand a chance of passing on marrying into this family.

CHRISTMAS COWBOY while touching and tense, is also delightful. The story also gives us a glimpse of the estranged brother Simon Hart, Texas's former states attorney. It should come as no secret that next up for me in this series is BELOVED (Sil Desire #1189 1/99).

Diana Palmer's novel Christmas Cowboy was a wonderful read, as usual per Palmer. Love, loss, and the magic of Christmas bring lost lovers together again, as well as three meddlesome brothers. But I love Dorie's spirit and gumption at taking on three large men who have her arrested and then stick her in a gunny sack just to get her with they're brother. The laughter is there in the love and holiday spirit. A great read.
Joan Jonston's novel A Hawk's Way Christmas is a wonderful read of the love that you can share with a stranger. Christmas is a powerful time of year and this heart warming story of how a man can learn to look beyond simple DNA and love his daughter once more is so moving and touching it brings tears and a smile to the reader.
A great holiday read, 5 stars!

Christmas Cowboy: 4 stars

I loved this story, what made is particularly good was/were (not sure which one to use) the Hart brothers. They're a loud, rowdy and opinionated bunch and I doubled over laughing at some scenes. Looking forward to read about the rest of them.

Corrigan and Dorie's story was cute. Overall a good read.

I liked the Diana Palmer story but I didn't really care for the Joan Johnston story. I've read the companion books to the Diana Palmer story but this is technically the first part. Makes me want to re-read the other books in proper order.
