I'm Right, You're Wrong! No, You're Wro

Rate this book
Disappointed by the current alignment of political and moral values accorded to the two main political parties, and nauseated by the present state of political behavior on the part of our elected officials, Ricardo Planas, a political scientist by profession, claims that inadequate political representation of these values had disenfranchised him. Set against the backdrop of a summer graduate seminar in Current Affairs, and operating under the premise that voting implies making political choices that are ultimately moral in nature, Planas engages fictional students who delve into attitudes and behavior, exploring the various sides of issues that touch our daily lives. Be it the Iraq war and the Middle East conflict, gay marriage, abortion, gun control, pornography, social and political correctness, religion and politics, love, sexuality and women s liberation, global warming, and our responsibility toward the less fortunate and nuclear proliferation, Planas and his students embark upon an impassionate and almost exhaustive yet balanced examination of major moral themes that have played and will continue to play an important role in upcoming elections. The author probes back and forth, attempting to replace ignorance, prejudice, and ideology with well-reasoned values, guided by a deep commitment to reason, science, and faith in the divine, and to the major human values and principles embodied in our political system. Planas chooses to abandon the traditional, one-sided, and often disrespectful, heated-debate approach to politics in favor of a more effective means of the dialectical dialogue.
