Popular speaker and evangelist, Tony Nolan shares his own story of pain and redemption as he inspires readers to become Christ-like healers in a hurting world.
For the most part, my opinion of this book is that Tony Nolan has an incredibly overactive imagination. With that said, his closing two chapters were excellent, calling on Christians to stand up and live out the faith they profess by meeting spiritual needs as well as physical ones. Yet, as I was reading this, I couldn't help but think that when one adds to or changes biblical material, they can support any point or argument. It is much more challenging to legitimately build a case using only the text as it was written. For me, It is on this point that Hurt Healer collapses.
I really enjoyed this book by Tony Nolan. This is my first time reading anything from him and I'm curious to look into his other writings and preaching. The first half of the book is a little slow as Nolan takes the reader through his imagined details of the Good Samaritan story. The book really picks up in chapter 17 as he begins to really dig into what it means to be a Christian who heals the hurting (physically, emotionally, but mostly spiritually). I highly recommend this book to any Christian who really wants to make an impact on their neighbor. Nolan calls Christians to follow the command Jesus gave to the crown after telling the story of the Good Samaritan: Go, and do likewise.
I thought I knew the story of the Good Samaritan. Turns out I had a lot to learn. In this book, the author challenges Christians to meet both the physical and the spiritual needs of the people we meet who are struggling and hurting. The stories from his childhood that he weaves into this narrative are heartbreaking. And also a testament to the fact that God can use personal struggles and hurts in those that are willing, to touch others in a powerful way.
Eye-opening book that really makes you think of the story of the Samaritan. It changes the way you think of people who might be in that position. Tony Nolan also puts the story in a different late, much different than what we have heard. A must read.
I really enjoyed this book because Tony Nolan perfected the story of the good samaritan aka the hurt healer. It was best to read his perspective about the actual events before and after this very well known story in the Bible. Nolan does a great job encouraging others to become hurt healers in the broken world we live in. I am so glad I picked up this book after seeing Nolan speak ast Winter Jam2011.
Although I didn't finish the book it gave me ideas to reach out to others through faith. I have a better understanding of the fears of atheists and how to address them. I also understand that I need to make sure my relationship with God is sound before trying to persuade others.
hurt healer was pretty good. not my favorite, but it was interesting. it takes a closer look at the "good samaritan" and calls Christians to meet both the physical and, more importantly, the spiritual needs of the people around us.
This book was amazing! Truly inspired me to be a Hurt Healer. So many hurting people around me everyday who need to know and understand the amazing Grace and Love of Jesus!
