I was put on to this book by Grayson Perry's Art Club. He had it on his bookshelf and the cover sang to me!
What a beautifully curated collection of American and Hawaiian quilts.
Quilting amazes me in that the amount of work shown in each one is outstanding, hours and hours of hands creating a work of beauty.
The chapters are divided into different categories of quilts such as Amish, doll/crib, ceremonial, modern.
The designs are so intricate and some, as the authors point out, resemble pieces of famous artwork.
I was inspired by some of the modern designs and the Hawaiian red and white quilts. I'm now saving all my scraps of material and old clothes in order to have a go myself.
This book is OVERSIZED ! While the pictures are beautiful and detailed, I found I could not hold it on my lap in the recliner because it hurt my legs because of the size and weight. I think I'll ask my weight lifter husband to take it back to the library for me!
This coffee table book offers an overview of quilting in America, and offers basic examples of some of the most popular quilting styles. Nice if you are somewhat interested in getting a taste of what American quilting is all about. If you are looking for in-depth information, try a different book.
