Once under French dominion and later a British colony, Mauritius became part of the British Comonwealth after its independence in 1968. Because of the beauty of its unspoiled inland and the changing colors of its lagoon surrounded by coral reefs, Mauritius has been called "the floating garden of the ocean". From all over the world a rainbow of races has formed itself on this Creole, Indopakistani, Chinese, European - each with its own customs and beliefs, yet united by one common Mauritian.. Beautiful book with gorgeous pictures!!

An interesting historical read considering how Mauritius has changed since this was written, but still gives a good insight into the Mauritian people and their history.
