Sisters, Carolina, Anna and Sofia run and work one of New York’s best waxing salons, Impresario. These sisters are close but then again you have to be if you are bonding over helping maintain women’s private spot.

Carolina is the owner of Impresario as well as oldest sister. She is a successful business woman. She has just as a successful boyfriend named Ron. Carolina starts to feel like she is missing something. When an old flame walks back into Carolina’s life, she must choose between her current life or a brand new start with Jack.

Anna is a single mother. She is trying to adjust to work and family life. It isn’t easy sometimes when you have throw up on your business suit to act and look professional. Anna scores an exclusive client. Her name is JJ Powers. Anna quickly forms a bond with JJ and develops feelings for JJ’s attorney, Tim.

Sofia is the youngest sister. She is a wild child. Sofia loves the nightlife. She finds a bosom buddy in Dennis, one of her clients. Dennis is gay. Gay guys really know how to party and have fun. Sofia and Dennis are having a good time. There is just one person who does not approve…Sofia’s boyfriend.

Waxed is the second book from author, Robert Rave. I thought his first novel, Spin was funny but Waxed is off the charts hilarious. Just when I didn’t think it could get any funnier, Carolina, Anna or Sofia would do or say something that would have me smiling and laughing again. I thought hair salons and the gossip there was crazy but it is nothing compared to Impresario. Vegas is not the only place where secrets should remain just that…secrets. JJ Powers may be an old woman but she can still teach these women a few things. I am Raving for Waxed!

It had potential to be a good story line, but too many characters with too much going on to fully develop one good solid story.

Impresarios, the hottest waxing salon in the business, is the place where people from all walks of life come to take care of the “necessities” of life. In the fast paced city life of New York City where else could three very different sisters come together, if not in a place where men and women alike are often most vulnerable? This is just the beginning for these three sisters who soon discover who they truly are and how much they depend on each other for survival.

Carolina, Sophia and Anna are as different as night and day, but when it comes to relationships they quickly discover those they can count on are the people who have been there all along. These girls are what made this story for me. I come from a family of three amazing sisters, a funny coincidence I thought, and throughout the entire book all I could think about was how exciting it would be to be in New York with each of them. We are each very different, much like the sisters in Waxed, but one thing we each know is that when things get rough, we can count on each other. And though at the beginning of the book, the relationships between Carolina, Sophia and Anna are strained, it takes only a minor upset with one of them to bring them closer together and quickly seeking for the other’s assistance and love.

By far, Sophia was my favorite character. Maybe it was all the excitement that constantly surrounded her, the dancing and the parties, the late nights, but I don’t think that was the only thing. Sophia’s understanding and steady heart in all of her relationships, including the one with her new gay best friend Dennis, endeared her to me. She was kind and considerate, thoughtful and encouraging, but still knew how to have a good time. Sophia was incredibly easy to relate to and someone you could easily imagine yourself staying up chatting to all night.

Although, Sophia was my favorite, the other characters in the story were also fantastic. Anna with the challenges of her newly acquired single-parenthood and the background that led her there. Carolina, the “Anna Wintour” of the waxing industry. JJ, Tim, Dennis, Scott, Ariel and so many more all make the story into an incredible journey that never stops until the very last page.

If there was one book this summer that I would say you absolutely must read, it would be Waxed. Yes, I know what you’re thinking, a story about a waxing salon just doesn’t sound like your thing, and I could have easily said the same thing before I picked it up. But don’t make that mistake. Robert Rave has an extraordinary ability to take you through the lives of these wonderful women and have you laughing and crying from beginning to end. I absolutely adored this book and would definitely recommend it to readers of great women’s fiction everywhere.

From My Blog...[return][return]Waxed by Robert Rave is the story of three sisters, Impresarios, and life in the city. Carolina is the 43-year-old owner of Impresarios, who believes she is becoming more obsessive-compulsive each day and is questioning her relationship with Ron, a man who loves her unconditionally. Anna is the middle sister and at 35, she is a divorced mother of three returning to the workforce with her older and younger sister at Impresarios. Sofia is the baby of the family, a newlywed at 26, who loves her husband Scott but prefers to be out with Dennis. Waxed was not a book I enjoyed, however I shall do my best to highlight what I liked and did not like without giving away any spoilers. As much as I dislike the term ‘chick-lit’, this book is my definition of it. Rave clearly knows his fashion and name drops quite frequently, which for me at first was a distraction, and quickly became an annoyance. It was quite clear anyone not wearing 4-inch heels needs an immediate fashion intervention. The three sisters are in different stages in their lives and finally reconnecting through working together at Impresarios, which I enjoyed reading about and I would have liked to know more about Carolina, Anna, and Sophia than what it is like to work in a high-end waxing salon and the many terms for a certain area on the female anatomy. I found Sophia to be spoiled and selfish through most of the novel, however her true maturity shows toward the end of the novel. I truly disliked Carolina; really that is about all I have to say for that character except kudos goes out to Ron. Anna manages to carry on after her husband walks out on her and their children; unable to deal with the fact their young son is to be raised as a girl. Anna struggles with herself, raising her family, and yet she is kind and tender, which is highlighted in her interactions with JJ (my favourite character). The most depth I found in the novel was through JJ, who sadly was not a main character. Would I recommend Waxed? is a question I struggled with and the best conclusion I have is to advise my readers to look at the other reviews on the tour before deciding.

Looking for a fun, light, New York chicklit novel to bring to the Park or the beach? Waxed will surely entertain. The three sisters are interesting in their own right, but the family dynamics and the drama of their love lives keeps Waxed moving at a quick pace.

It might be my current diet woes, but I was drawn to the middle sister Anna who is trying to get back into the workforce and finds herself outdated, overweight, and overwhelmed. Anna navigates office politics, her new job, and taking care of her kids, albeit there are many misses, she doesn't give up. Her luck starts to change with her home visit to New York socialite JJ.

Carolina, the glamorous and successful sister, has her own hangups which manifest themselves in her OCD and controlling nature. The traits don't hold her back though, the perfectionist standards have made her salon the undisputed best in NYC. It takes considerable effort for Caroline to keep everything in balance and relaxing her guard at the wrong time can take her down a rocky path. Fortunately, even though she doesn't realize it, she has people watching her back.

The youngest and the peacemaker of the family, Sofia is facing the pains of early adjustment in her marriage. Gorgeous, glamorous, and devoted to her new husband, Sofia occasionally misses the excitement and fun of going out in the City. But she buckles down and learns to cook, decorate, and all the pastimes that she associates with nesting. A surprise friendship with a client opens a window to another world and Sofia starts to explore NYC again -- this time without her husband but secure that her new friendship doesn't strain her marriage.

In Waxed Robert Rave gives us characters that we can cheer for and a fun escape from reality. Friendships, romance, adventure, intrigue, and heartache in NYC -- Waxed is a satisfying read.

Carolina, is the oldest sister in her family and is determined to do better for herself then what they had growing up. She now owns and runs Impresario the waxing saloon to use in NYC for the high society ladies and socialites. With her OCD taking over her life she feels caught between what she has built for herself and a part of her past that has come back to haunt her.

Anna, is separated from her husband after a bit of an identity crisis with one of her children. To continue to make ends meet Anna goes back to work for her sister at the salon. Stuck with the jobs that no one wants Anna is thrown back into having to prove herself again. While entering a new world of society that she is just being introduced too.

Sofia is the youngest of the sisters. A newly wed, who loves her domestic life, but her husband is starting to not be home very often and seems to have better things to do then be around for Sofia. When a new client invites her to go out and start hitting the club scene with them then things start to get even more complicated at home.

The three sisters all work together at the waxing salon and in supporting each other and in pushing each others boundaries too. They all work to improve themselves and their own situations even with how much it hurts to change.

I enjoyed reading this book. It was a quick read for me. I personally didn't think like I learned anything or that the I personally got vested in any of the characters, but it wasn't a bad plot. It flew quickly and was enjoyable, but I personally didn't get much more than that out of the book.

I would suggest this book to others who like books like this with a little peek into another how other parts of society live. I would give it 3 stars as an enjoyable read, but not one to go back to over and over.

Did I enjoy this book: In the beginning, I had a hard time getting into this book. It was kind of slow and I couldn't connect with any of the characters. The last quarter of the book had me hooked and laughing out loud and enjoying the book. I'm glad I didn't give up completely.

For me, the characters didn't seem all that real. It seemed like a guy wrote this book. (I know a guy did write this book...I'm saying you could tell a guy wrote it.) The women just seemed fake. Maybe I didn't feel connected because I'm not a big city/lots of money/high fashion person. I don't know. But something was off about the characters.

Carolina had her quirks and she was a tough woman but she had a vulnerable side she did not let show. Unfortunately, her tough exterior showed the most and it was difficult to feel for her. Anna was a trip. She was the most real out of the three sisters. I connected with her the most out of the three sisters. Sofia didn't make any sense to me at all. I didn't like her. I thought she was childish, spoiled, and just not likeable.

I did enjoy the scene between Anna and JJ during the photo shoot towards the beginning of the story. Their relationship throughout the book was fun. These two women really helped each other out and I almost wish this was the focus of the book. It was my favorite part of Waxed.

As I said at the beginning, I am glad that I stuck with Waxed and finished it. The last quarter of the book is what makes me comfortable giving it:

Would I recommend it: If you like chick lit set in the big city, you will probably enjoy this book.

Will I read it again: I will not.

Take three sisters, add some issues and then stick the whole mess together with some wax and you get a wonderful story. The story take place with the glamorous background of New York City and follows the three sisters through a trying time in each of their lives. I wonder if this might be based on the "J" sisters of waxing fame? The main story line of the book is that family knows your secrets and they are always there no matter what.

Caroline: Oldest, overachieving and somewhat cold. I think she puts on this front to distance herself from everyone and blames all of her problems on her flighty mother. She does come around towards the end when she has to make difficult decisions.

Anna: Middle sister, newly divorced and a child with gender issues. She finds herself and of all the characters, Anna grows the most. Through the help of an aging socialite, she comes into her own and finds strength and love.

Sofia: Youngest and immature. She definitely matures when she finds out the gay man she is playing with turns out to be the other woman (or should I say man?). She is my favorite of all of the sisters.

I really enjoyed reading this one. It is the perfect beach read with fun and snarky dialogue. I never thought a male could write a decent chick lit book, but Mr. Rave has surprised me nicely. There were some surprising moments in the book and I think I would enjoy a follow up to this one. Now, on to find SPIN since I love the author's writing style. I hope there are many more books to come from Robert Rave. RAVE ON!

Wow. I don't know what to say about this book. There is so much going on, that I don't think that I really get a feel on any of the sisters or the full story of things. I felt that the book just skimmed the surface of the sisters and we didn't get the real story on them.

Carolina just seems cold. There are times when a nicer girl shines through, but not really. I wish we could have gotten a background on why she was that way. Anna just seemed like a middle child--she easily got lost in the other two sisters. But I would have liked to have known more about her daughter Ariel--we only get a little glimpse of what makes her daughter different and I would have liked to have known more about her. Sofia is the sister that I most closely identify with and whom I felt we got to know best. Her story was one that I definitely didn't see coming. But my favorite character by far was JJ. I loved how spunky she was and that she didn't let her age or her illness slow her down. And that while she seemed tough, she was really a softie.

This book had some definite shockers in it. And while it was definitely entertaining, I was left wanting more details of the stories of the sisters.

By the sound of it, Waxed looked like a fun but heartfelt chick lit story about 3 sisters. And in a way it was but I was left feeling like I didn't really know the sisters as well as I had wanted to. I wasn't really invested in their stories. But I will say that the Waxing clients did make for some hilarious moments here and there!

Don't get me wrong all three sisters are experiencing troubles in their lives which make for a really interesting book. But in the end I wasn't very invested. I felt like the sisters a lot of the time didn't even like each other. And the way that the story was told left me waiting a lot of the time to find out what I missed in the gap of time that the author doesn't share with us and I felt the ending didn't have much resolution, it just kind of ended.

Of the three sisters I found Sofia's story to be most interesting. She's a young married woman that's settled into a routine with her husband until a new friend helps her see what kind of fun she's missing, sitting at home waiting for her husband to come home.

Overall, if you are looking for something a little bit different in the Chick Lit genre that's a bit more serious this may be for you!

This was kind of chick lit, but with some more serious issues addressed at the same time. This is about three sisters living in NYC, running/working at an upscale bikini wax place. The oldest sister, who owns and runs it, has OCD. The middle sister is separated from her husband, raising 3 kids by herself, , one of whom was born a little boy but decided to start living as a girl at age 3 or 4 years old, coming back to the work world outdated after years of raising the kids at home and lacking in confidence, and the youngest sister is neglected by her new husband, and feels controlled by both him and her oldest sister, and begins a party life with her new best friend. This was a fast read once i got through the first couple chapters, it really picked up, and i wanted to know more about these women's lives. the end was a bit eh, i think he could have done more with the story, but i'd like to read more of Rave's work.

Funny and fast moving story of three sisters in the waxing business in New York. They all have relationship trouble, the OCD one is living with a guy, the whimsical one is married and the pragmatic one is divorced. What happens to them is not only fun, but unpredictable too. Robert Rave shows his sense of humor and imagination in a novel that is unique.

I liked the first 2/3 of this book better than the ending. The characters were ok - it took me a while to get them straight - and the plot line was ok. Until the last third of the book when it seemed to go off the rails. It almost felt like the author wanted to wrap up the book, so he threw in some gratuitous drama for each character and then ended it. Suddenly.

Waxed has all drama, high fashion and sibling rivalry you could ask from in a beach read but it delivers more. We get to know Carolina, Anna and Sophia but Rave really shines in the development of the supporting characters.

Amusing but not overly thought provoking. Another book to be read by a pool since its funny and cute, but doesn't require much brain function to read it. The characters are fun, but very predictable.
