It was okay till a point, nothing great and nothing really bad but the cheating aspect sort of killed it for me. And not just that but the main character was so annoying, I can't even-

RTC....maybe?

Where the Truth Lies is the third book that I've read by Julie Corbin and my favourite and the best so far!
I was hooked from the very first page, Julie Corbins writing drew me in and didn't let me go again until I was finished. Where the Truth Lies was fast paced and full of suspense. A tale of family or justice and a mothers fight to protect the ones she loves.

The truth lies in the fact that this book is rubbish. The main character in this tedious book is Claire - she of the perfect household - lovely house , happy marriage and mother to the exquisitely beautiful 4 year old Bea. She is surrounded by perfect, loving friends and nobody can ask for a better or more supportive family. Is Julie C=orbin for real? But Claire's husband is acting strangely and this prompts her to read his emails because that's what wives do. There she discovers that he is secretly being blackmailed. It could destroy their idyllic little set - up and that is simply not on.

To add to the boredom (sorry I meant intrigue) someone close to the family seems to be feeding information to the blackmailer. Claire tells us the story in her whiney first person voice.

In an attempt to garner sympathy from the reader Julie Corbin gives Claire's sister cancer but she conveniently goes into remission and gets to come home. Claire's husband - I forget his name - is a prosecutor who is about to send a bulgarian crime boss ( who he's been tracking for 20 years or so can't be very good at his job eh?) to jail for a very long time with the help of a secret witness. Someone in the crime boss's camp is unhappy about this and is threatening to slice up Bea unless the wheareabouts of the secret witness is revealed.

This is where our intrepid Claire enters into the fray and will do whatever it takes to remove the threat hanging over her angel daughter's head. Even to the point of donning sexy underwear with which to seduce said hubby into revealing the whereabouts of the witness so that she can email it to the blackmailer. Failing that, employing the same tactics on the cop she used to cheat on her husband with. He just happens to be same guy who is meant to keep the family safe.

One would think after the accusations and coldness with which she treated her husband after discovering the emails , he would be just a tad suspicious of her motives would'nt you? Not this idiot, he falls for it hook, line and sinker. He stands firm and tells her the witness has been moved and he requested to not know his new whereabouts because he's such a wimp.

I won't bore you with further details suffice to say it all ties up very neatly in the end if you are still interested that predictably it is Claire who saves the day. If you, like me was hoping for a twist at the end that is just a bridge too far for Julie Corbin.

A first read from this author, and I wasn't disappointed. I found myself intrigued, constantly guessing what was gonna happen next. And what a plot?!?!
A mother on a desperate quest to ensure her daughter is safe, while doubting her husband's every move. Heartpoundingly suspended!
While there was an awful lot of build-up, and I felt that the ending was rather rushed and short, I would still recommend this read.
Looking forward to reading more from Julie!.

It was such a nice-paced book but all that rant about macro-biotics and the talk-no-jutsu at the end wasn't satisfactory at all and ruined the book a bit. Otherwise, nice read.

A solid and engaging read. At times somewhat predictable but the author cleverly throws a few spanners in the works to have you second guessing if your prediction is acurate or not.

I liked it because it was unputdownable and the suspense was real. It made me forget about any other things I was meant to be doing. I didn't find Claire annoying, I may have done exactly the same as she did. However I did guess who the blackmailer was and I did find it annoying that Claire was always right... the end is a bit too "nice" for my likings, I don't like to be spoonfed, but it all depends what you want out of a book. At some other time, maybe I'd have liked it less, but when I read it, I was at need of escaping from work and bothers... so it did its job!

I loved Julie Corbin's first novel and this one was just as good if not better.

The story is well told, the characters life like and the mystery deep. Trying to guess who the person was who was going to kidnap her child drove Claire to adopt measures she wouldn't usually. Claire in particular came over as a very real person, her fury when she couldn't make others around her see her point of view came across as how someone would react; as did her frustration and anger at herself as she suspected one after another of the people she knew.

Would recommend this fast paced read

This was a great book from Julie Corbin about Claire, who's found out her husband has been keeping a secret that could harm their four-year old daughter. With their daughter's life at stake, and no longer trusting her husband, Claire decides to keep her daughter safe without her husband's help.

I liked the characters and the tension between Claire and the policeman. Sometimes Claire came across as a bit irrational, but still a moving page-turner that was well written and incredibly intriguing.

I enthused about Tell Me No Secrets, and this one was every bit as good - "unputdownable" is much overused, but it's true. A "who is it" rather than a "whodunnit", it's an incredibly nervy and gripping story, set against a domestic family background and shaking it to the roots. I didn't guess the outcome, but I didn't try - I just wanted to be swept along. Excellent stuff.

Claire's husband has fought for 15 years to get a Bulgarian crimelord convicted and now he's keeping secrets ... threats to their family if he won't give up the name & location of the prosecutions star witness. Information that Claire only discovers in the nick of time, how far will one family go to protect their loved ones?
