• Glandular extracts to optimize hormone health and androgen production, especially testosterone.
• Vitamin D for strong bones and teeth, healthy immune function, and good mental health, especially during the winter months.

Weight training advocates and bodybuilders who want to optimize their physique and nutrition as bodybuilders did in the past without the PEDs will appreciate this quick read. It breaks down nutritional advice to boost muscle growth and recovery and top protein sources, including food recipes. I like the training programs, tips to improve and sustain gut health, and why full-body training is practical. The Q&A with bodybuilding/weight training questions is helpful too.

Ancient Wisdom, Forever Wisdom
I appreciated how this book propagates the ancient wisdom from the Golden Era that says body building is elegance and beauty. After chancing into this book, I want my husband to read it and follow it!

The author has laid out a plan with techniques and recipes to achieve the desired body that is optimal. The narration takes the reader down the memory lane and gives a glimpse into the eras of body building. And how it has progressed to be and not progressed to be better.

The approach taken here is by simplifying the seemingly involved activity. Every step is broken down and divided by the days of the week with enough downtime to recover. It also focuses on the diet to be followed, body weaknesses, physical and mental health.

It is a wholesome full body training regimen. I found this book very interesting as it also gives non-dairy substitutes. However, it is not meatless and in fact it stresses on goodness of red meat in a diet. If you or anyone you know wants to build an attractive body, take advantage of the vintage principals laid out here.

This is probably the first book I've read that seemed to have at least in part generated by AI, some software that rewrites the book, or at the very least an editor who is out of their mind.

My main problem is that it seems like the author suffers from a split personality disorder. He shifts between being a textbook-formal to being a cheesy salesman.

I guess I had it coming when the book's description had the God-awful line "So What Are You Waiting For?" I suppose I have to be more careful next time.

An example of the inuman vibe is when the author says "Tracking macros and calories may be helpful, but it's best to consult with a registered dietitian or nutritionist to personalize a meal plan that suits your specific goals and requirements."

If I want someone to tell me to consult a registered dietitian to suit my specific goals and requirements, I can just ask ChatGPT to give me that advice.

Ironically, the author goes against the WHO and all the major institutions' recommendations when it comes to the consumption of saturated fat-- which I agree with the author, but "registered nutritionists" these days don't provide diets with high saturated fat, because to be "registered" you have to follow the mainstream doctrine.

One thing is to be drowned in ChatGPT-type sentences, but another is to be subject to the most irritating of inconsistencies in writing... in the midst of this very formal A4, rigid text-book, Mr.Flanders type shit, he suddenly unzips his salespants and says "By applying these 5-Old-School Bodybuilding Secret, you can unlock your true potential, build a strong and well-rounded physique and enjoy a fulfilling and successful journey in the amazing world of bodybuilding."

Dude! I already bought your book, what are you trying to tell me now? Jesus, and these "5 bodybuilding secrets" are not secrets, why are you calling them secrets? It's generic advice...

About 75% into the book, after a long montage of just pictures of bodybuilders with quotes that even contradict what he says in the book, he starts off his chapter with "You've made it until here, good job!"

Look, I don't want to be congratulated on making it through your shitty book. I don't know anything that is more uncharismatic than this. I absolutely hate when the author acts as if he's better than the reader.

And on that note, I can't decide who this book is intended for. Lots of tips are generic, and considering he thinks it's a good idea to complement the reader for making 75% through his book, in order to motivate them, I guess, it seems clear to me that the target audience is fat lazy beginners.

The language seems to verify this, as he writes, for example, that "Cardiovascular exercise, commonly known as cardio..."

Since the author felt he had to explain that "cardiovascular exercise" is also known as "cardio," the target audience would seem to me to be those people who have never even been remotely exposed to anything fitness.

And it's fine to write a book for those 12 people on the planet, but you cannot, at the same time, write extremely in-depth about the biochemistry of anabolic steroids and various supplements that realistically are only applicable to those who are dead serious about bodybuilding.

The in-depth biochemistry would have been the major strength of this book had it not been for the inconsistency of the target audience. I suspect the author isn't genuinely hoping that the reader will take away a greater knowledge of the minute details of the ins and outs of certain compounds of the body. The effect I assume the author wants to have is to make it seem like he knows what he's talking about (to his credit, he does) and thus give the reader the positive faith of taking the supplements and eating according to him.

I considered giving the book 2 stars because the content about nutrition is pretty good. The author is a scientist of some sort, and I agree with most of what he has to say, but the whole book is based on false marketing because it seems to me that the real contribution of the book was about biochemistry, in shiny, vintage-bodybuilding wrapping. The insights into bodybuilding regimes were short and felt contrived.

The thing I disagree with him the most in terms of nutrition is that classic bodybuilders didn't eat a lot of carbs. This isn't true, and many bodybuilders with fantastic physiques eat enormous amounts of them. I can say this from personal experience also. Dorian Yates, for example, eats enormous amounts of carbs. Mike Mentzer recommends that 60% of all grams of food come from carbs.

Do better George, if that's your real name...

I'm not and never have been a bodybuilder and at my age have no intention of becoming one. I keep fit myself and think toned muscles are a good thing, but bodybuilding has always seemed over the top. We had a couple living nearby some years ago,  husband and wife, both fanatical bodybuilders who competed internationally. The whole discipline, for me, had always begged the question: Why? This book seemed a good way to find out.

Initially I found myself at odds with the content. The Introduction refers to the 'Golden Era', when bodybuilding was seen as 'delicate  refined, beautiful and elegant', followed by a picture which to my mind is the absolute antithesis of all those things. The next section, however, promises what's to come, including healthy eating for 'gut, skin and blood sugar levels', amongst other things, and of more interest to me.

The information on the history of bodybuilding makes it sound altogether healthier back in ancient Greece, when fitness equalled effective warriors, rather than the sport it's become. The section on the most effective exercise regime is well-presented, the suggestions for exercise regimes detailed, including potential negative effects and how to counteract these.

The information on diet occurs in various places throughout the text, and is intricately-detailed. Some of it is  useful from a general perspective, like that of eggs, cholesterol and heart disease, not to mention the superiority of offal in promoting good health. There's even a recipe section, to help make offal palatable. A case is made for much-maligned red meat, exploding 'modern myths' about this, and the section concerning the gut microbiome is of particular interest to me, as I'm trying to sort mine out at this time. The definition of 'Clean Eating' is also useful in helping me decide what to cut out of my diet.

There's an FAQ section too, just before the Conclusion, helping to wind things up.

The section on Old vs Modern bodybuilding supplied the answer to my question though, noting how the old system relied on 'fewer drugs and supplements' and looked to exercise and diet for health and beauty. It was newer ideas, from the 1990s onwards, when 'sheer mass and size' caused 'a subculture of gym freaks', with the 'overuse of anabolic steroids' and other such supplements, distorting 'the core principles of bodybuilding'. Interesting indeed, as it was the early 2000s when I had the neighbours of definitely distorted physiques.

Overall, this was a well-presented text, with much unexpected material. I still don't find the end result of bodybuilding beautiful, even under the original system, but I have more understanding of it now and am taking away much information that I didn't expect to find. Your work here is done, author George Kelly.

A worthy read for those into bodybuilding or wanting to pursue it

Bodybuilding has never been my thing at all — my experience with the sport encompasses lifting bricks in the 1980s to try to look like the Incredible Hulk — but there was something about this goofy cover and the “Golden Era” subtitle that made me want to check this book out. When I saw how popular it is on Amazon (based on the number of reviews), I decided to give it a try.

I give author George Kelly a ton of credit for doing his homework on a topic he is passionate about. Pretty much everything the average person would want to know about varied aspects of this sport are covered in Vintage Physique. I like the author’s old-school outlook and can definitely appreciate how hard these men and women work to get their bodies a certain way.

After going through detailed basics on what bodybuilding is and its history, Kelly dives into what he considers the classic era of bodybuilding, much of which includes training and nutrition info. Chapter 3, “Bodybuilding FAQs,” covers the more detailed aspects of training, nutrition, and results. This was the least interesting section to me, but the details and insights from Kelly are impressive.

Kelly writes that the golden time for bodybuilding took place from 1950 to 1980, and that the sport eventually became a “cultural revolution.” He called this period of bodybuilding “less glamorous and fancy,” with fewer drugs and supplements in the sport. Additionally, the meals the athletes ate, according to Kelly, were “prepared from scratch,” not overly processed like today. Readers will get a true sense of the passion of the sport in this section. I cracked up when Kelly wrote that bodybuilding workouts these days are filled with too many selfies and “endless chats” by the bodybuilders as they take breaks in between their workout regiments.

It's possible that eating meat may assist with the physique and stamina bodybuilders strive for, but I don’t agree with the author’s assessment that eating meat is a healthy choice, especially if you eat too much of it. I’ve read numerous studies over the years that contradict Kelly's advice in this realm.

Still, this is a cool book that I would recommend if you’re looking for something off the beaten path. The references at the end of Vintage Physique offer plenty more information for people who want to further their knowledge on this topic.

For those who want to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger!

First of all, a disclaimer: I'm neither a man nor a bodybuilder, but I AM surrounded by men who would like to be (ex., several cousins, several friends, etc). I've received a few requests to vet a resource they could use, which is why I (as the resident doctor) read this book for them.
I chose Vintage Physique: A Golden Era Bodybuilding Guide to Health and Aesthetics (Kindle Edition) because there's been a resurgence of traditional ways to do things lately, which have turned out to be actually better than the modern way of doing them. This book, in particular, espouses traditional bodybuilding like the icons did in the 70s. It's a wholistic guide that talks about everything, including its history (the different eras of bodybuilding starting from the ancient Greek times), the specific exercises involved (including sample regimens for all levels starting from beginners to those who have been bodybuilding for years), the proper nutrition (which primarily espouses eggs, raw milk, organ meats, and red meat, which have been demonized--perhaps unfairly--by science for decades), supplements (such as creatine, protein powders, etc), and even performance-enhancing drugs and their pros and cons (such as anabolic steroids, EPO, etc). There are examples of what parts of the body should be targeted on what days of the week for how long, how many sets, how many repetitions, sample dishes for every meal of the day, and a few recipes; in other words, everything needed to set up one's plan from head to toe over the space of several months (as according to this book, it takes a while for one to see real results). There's a long section about red meat, its benefits, and the myths perpetrated about it, which coincides with the books I've read lately about the healthiness of a purely carnivorous diet. Chapter four is a photo album of vintage photographs of old-time bodybuilders, presumably for inspiration, which I think is a stroke of genius. The book rounds out with a section on FAQs, such as whether cardio is bad for muscle growth, what are the most important muscle groups to focus on, etc.
My only gripe is that there isn't a reference section at the back to back up the author's claims; a listing of scientific studies and journals would make it much more believable.
In summary, this is a great and comprehensive resource for men who want to look more like Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I recently read on KU "Vintage Physique" and I must say, it's a treasure trove for anyone interested in diving deep into the authentic, time-tested methods of bodybuilding from the Golden Era. This book isn't just another generic fitness guide; it’s a comprehensive manual that meticulously details how to sculpt a physique reminiscent of the legends like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Steve Reeves.

Content and Structure:
"Vintage Physique" is exceptionally well-organized. It starts by laying the foundational principles of old-school bodybuilding, highlighting the importance of low-carb diets for muscle definition and health. The author does an incredible job at demystifying the science behind this approach, making complex nutritional and training concepts accessible to beginners and seasoned athletes alike.

Practicality and Application:
What sets this book apart is its practicality. Each chapter is filled with actionable advice, from detailed workout plans to dietary guidelines that ensure you're fueling your body correctly. The low-carb approach discussed here isn't about restriction but about optimizing your body's performance and appearance. I've followed the diet and training plans for a few weeks now and have noticed significant improvements in my muscle tone, energy levels, and overall well-being. The absence of common high-carb diet pitfalls like bloating and energy crashes has been a game-changer for me.

Innovative Techniques:
The book reintroduces forgotten techniques and philosophies with a modern twist, ensuring that the methods are not only effective but also safe. Techniques for recovery, injury prevention, and mental focus are all covered, making this guide holistic in its approach to physical fitness.

Inspiration and Motivation:
Beyond the technical advice, "Vintage Physique" serves as a motivational piece. The profiles of iconic bodybuilders from the era provide not just insights into their training but also their discipline and lifestyle, which is incredibly inspiring.

In conclusion, if you're looking to achieve a physique that's not only strong but also aesthetically pleasing in the most natural, health-promoting way, "Vintage Physique" is absolutely essential. This book does more than teach you how to build muscle; it educates you on living a lifestyle that supports peak physical condition. Whether you're new to bodybuilding or looking to return to the roots of this art, this book is a must-have. Five stars, hands down!

I'll preface this by saying that I am an amateur bodybuilder or a fitness enthusiast with my own biases regarding diet and training.

Put simply, Vintage Physique delivers on its promise to offer a guide based on Golden Era techniques and understanding. The book over-delivers that promise by having a fair amount of information regarding recent developments. I've spent countless hours parsing through fitness influencer videos on this information. I could have saved a great deal of time if I found this book earlier, as it covers all of the necessary information for anyone looking to replicate the results of a Golden Era bodybuilder. This includes in-depth coverage of compound lifting programs and nutrition and supplementation. It also discusses controversial subjects such as PEDs with a fair amount of analysis from both points of view, covering the risks involved and the issues that the practice has created in the bodybuilding industry.

The book is biased in the same manner many Golden Era bodybuilders were. That is, it lacks a focus on cardiovascular training and nutrition that aids heart health. Golden Era bodybuilders have a habit of dying young due to heart failure. The author promotes a very high animal protein diet and discounts the potential impacts on heart health, specifically regarding the effects of red meat, cholesterol, and saturated fat.

To the author's credit, this advice is almost certainly best for gaining muscle (eating many animal proteins). Still, the attempt to discount the generally accepted science on the negative impacts on heart health is notable. Yes, that may be best for gaining muscle, but not necessarily for overall health and fitness. It is not a health book but a Golden Era bodybuilding guide. Still, some information regarding HIIT cardio training may benefit readers. Further, it is worth pointing out that not all Golden Era bodybuilders, such as Mike Mentzer, had an extremely high protein diet. In my experience, low-GI carbs such as legumes are a vastly superior nutrition and fuel source than red meat.

Still, this is a five-star book because it delivers on what it promises with tremendous detail. Personally, I would not treat it as a gospel for improving overall fitness but as a guide for those wishing to replicate the diet and exercise routines of those such as Arnold and Frank Zane.

This Book is more than just a guide to bodybuilding—it’s an ode to the artistry and discipline of a bygone era. This book dives deep into the Golden Era of bodybuilding, celebrating its focus on balance, health, and aesthetic perfection. What sets this work apart is its emphasis on achieving an ideal physique through natural methods, eschewing performance-enhancing drugs in favor of discipline, nutrition, and scientifically grounded training techniques.

The book appeals to both novice readers and seasoned fitness enthusiasts by blending historical insights with practical advice. Kelly’s writing is accessible and engaging, avoiding jargon while offering actionable tips. The distinction he draws between old-school and modern bodybuilding is particularly compelling, highlighting how the principles of the past still hold relevance today.

From nutritional guidance to workout routines, Kelly provides a comprehensive roadmap to achieving a classic physique. His advocacy for a holistic approach—one that prioritizes health alongside physical appearance—is a refreshing reminder in a fitness culture often dominated by shortcuts and quick fixes.

Although the book is steeped in nostalgia for the “Golden Era,” it remains firmly rooted in practicality. The recipes and diet advice cater to real-world application, and the exercises are designed to deliver results without compromising health. Kelly also tackles misconceptions about bodybuilding, breaking down myths about red meat, cholesterol, and supplements, while presenting evidence-based insights.

The writing is clear, concise, and well-organized, with only minor editorial hiccups. Kelly’s passion for his subject shines through, making this book a joy to read. Whether you’re a lifelong bodybuilder, a fitness beginner, or just someone curious about the history and science of physique building, Vintage Physique is a standout read that offers something for everyone.

I can't express enough how impressed and motivated I am by this book. As someone who's been interested in bodybuilding for a while, I've read a fair share of books on the subject, but this one stands out. The author has a gift for breaking down complex concepts into easy-to-understand language, and I found myself learning something new on every page.

What I appreciate most about this book is the emphasis on building a foundation before diving into a workout plan. The author stresses the importance of understanding your body type, strengths, and weaknesses, and tailoring your training program accordingly. This approach makes perfect sense, yet it's often overlooked in other bodybuilding books.

The exercises in this book are incredibly helpful, and I love that they're backed by science. The author explains why each exercise is effective, which muscles it targets, and how to perform it correctly to avoid injury. The advice on diet and food is also invaluable. The author breaks down the macronutrients and explains how to calculate your daily caloric needs based on your goals. This information alone is worth the price of the book.

Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in bodybuilding. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced lifter, you'll find something valuable in these pages. It's a comprehensive guide that covers everything from nutrition to workout programming to injury prevention. If you're serious about bodybuilding, you need this book in your library.

This is the second book by George Kelly that I’ve had the pleasure to read. I came away from it respecting the amount of effort it must had taken for him to not only compile all of this information, but to also display it in a way that doesn’t bore the reader and doesn’t bog you down in technical terms for the duration of the read.

George Kelly is qualified to give advice on nutrition and dieting due to his profession and the vintage physique that is discussed in this book has just as much to do with exercise and working out as it does with diet. Diet and exercise are the age old requirements to get into good shape while also being healthy.

Another fascinating part about this novel compared to the one I previously read is that it not only gives advice on following a routine like those in the past, but it also is a study of a historical time period and the origins of bodybuilding.

During my time with this book, I spent some time looking up my own images that discussed what George Kelly was talking about. (For example, I compared images of the bodybuilders from the golden era of bodybuilding to those in the 90s-2000s and up until today. It seems as if there is a place in modern bodybuilding where there is a focus on the “golden-era style” and to me that is intriguing. It’s almost like comparing baseball during the Sammy Sosa era with baseball during Babe Ruth’s era. It’s clear that there are things to respect and admire from both era’s, but it is also important to differentiate them and understand why they aren’t just the same thing.

A Life-Changing Journey to Fitness and Vitality!

I stumbled upon "Vintage Physique: A Golden Era Bodybuilding Guide to Health and Aesthetics" as a complete novice in the world of bodybuilding and nutrition. Let me tell you, this book has transformed my perspective on fitness and health! The author's approach to achieving a classic, balanced physique without the carb overload is revolutionary.

The detailed nutritional insights were eye-opening. I never knew that an almost carnivorous diet could be so beneficial. The emphasis on high-quality protein, fats, and the role of organ meats opened my eyes to a new way of eating. The training routines provided cater to various schedules, making it adaptable for everyone. The absence of cardio was surprising, but the book explains its reasoning convincingly.

What truly sets this book apart are the scientifically-backed supplements discussed. The focus on hormonal health and digestion, coupled with the incorporation of the latest research, is invaluable.

Additionally, the inclusion of FAQs and delicious recipes adds immense value. I appreciated the myth-busting facts about red meat and found the plateau-busting tips incredibly useful.

"Vintage Physique" is not just a book; it's a life-changing guide that has empowered me to take charge of my health and aesthetics. If you're looking to achieve remarkable results while understanding the 'why' behind every step, this book is an absolute game-changer! Five stars without a doubt!

"Vintage Physique" is a compelling and comprehensive guide for sculpting a classic, balanced physique through old-school bodybuilding principles. This book is very informative, combining the wisdom of Golden Era bodybuilders with modern sports nutrition insights. At its core, "Vintage Physique" advocates for a low-carb, high-protein diet that optimizes muscle growth and overall health, emphasizing quality animal-based foods like red meat, eggs, and raw dairy. The author focuses on easy digestion, nutrient absorption, and metabolic health, making it a fantastic choice for those intolerant to high-carb diets.

In addition, the book introduces an intense yet straightforward training regimen, focusing on high-frequency, full-body workouts without cardio. The author also advises on supplementation, emphasizing the importance of key supplements such as glandular extracts, Vitamin D, and digestive aids that ensure hormonal balance and strong immunity. The book also shares a lot of practical tips, such as overcoming plateaus, and answers to over 40 FAQs on fitness and nutrition. These tips make it an invaluable resource for both beginners and seasoned bodybuilders.

I have to say that I disagree with the author on his animal-heavy diet. If you have watched The Game Changers by James Cameron, you will be convinced that a plant-based diet is sufficient to build strong muscles and strength. Other than that, this book is an excellent resource if you are serious about building your muscles while maintaining an overall balance in nutrition and health.

Comprehensive Guide to Old School Bodybuilding

This is an incredibly exhaustive look at how to build a program of bodybuilding that aligned with the golden era of bodybuilding when giants like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sergio Oliva were pumping iron. He gives great historic background on the differences between eras. He is at his best when discussing nutrition…which is about as thorough as possible. Every aspect of nutrition and supplementing is discussed in great detail…and I think this is where the author is at his best. He has clearly thought through all aspects of nutrition and has studied the various diets that are usually used by bodybuilding. Loved the inclusion of quotes from the bodybuilders of that era…especially the first one from Steve Reeves which was hilarious. This is the second book from this author that I have read and he has a really nice and approachable writing style. It is well organized and very easy to understand and put into practice. I can’t think of any relevant topic that he doesn’t address to some degree. There a a real deep dive on the pros and cons of eating red meat which was quite interesting. I also really liked the final section which is an exhaustive FAQ section that is very honest. The organ recipes were an interesting add and I am curious to try a couple of them. This book would be valuable both to experienced and new bodybuilders. The workouts and workout styles are very much what was used back then…and indeed remain popular today. These are the same workouts I used in my early military years to great effect.

As someone deeply passionate about fitness and bodybuilding, diving into George Kelly's "Vintage Physique" felt like uncovering a hidden treasure trove of knowledge and inspiration. From the moment I cracked open the pages, I was captivated by the wealth of insights and practical guidance that this golden era bodybuilding guide had to offer.

Kelly's approach to bodybuilding is both informative and enlightening, providing a comprehensive overview of the sport that goes beyond mere physical training. What struck me most about the book was its emphasis on mindset and discipline, highlighting the importance of mental fortitude and determination in achieving one's fitness goals. As I delved deeper into the text, I found myself gaining a newfound appreciation for the mental aspects of bodybuilding and how they intersect with physical training.

One aspect of "Vintage Physique" that particularly resonated with me was its exploration of nutrition and meal planning. As someone who is always seeking to fine-tune my diet for maximum gains, I found this section to be incredibly helpful and informative.

**Transform Your Physique the Old-School Way!**

As someone who's been on a fitness journey for a while now, I came across this book and couldn't resist diving into it. It promises a classic, balanced physique without the usual pitfalls of sugar and carbs—and it truly delivers.

The nutrition section is a standout. Embracing a heavy animal-based diet made me rethink my eating habits. I never thought I could enjoy steak and eggs while still working towards my goals, but this book lays it out in a way that feels doable and rewarding. The advice on smaller, more frequent meals has helped me avoid the dreaded digestion issues that come from heavy eating.

What really clicked for me was the training philosophy. High-intensity, full-body workouts without cardio? Count me in! The pre-designed routines are fantastic for anyone with a busy schedule. I’ve adapted them to fit my lifestyle, and I feel stronger than ever.

I also appreciated the honest talk about supplements. This isn’t just a list of must-haves; it’s rooted in the wisdom of old-school bodybuilders combined with the latest research. Having clarity on what truly works was refreshing.

If you’re looking to elevate your training and nutrition while channeling that vintage aesthetic, I can’t recommend this book enough. It’s not just informative; it’s an actionable guide that makes you feel like you’re stepping back into a golden era of bodybuilding. Adjusting my approach based on its insights has been a game changer for me!

I thought this was just going to be a book about building a beautiful physique, but it was so much more! It discussed the history of bodybuilding, different workout splits, and even nutrition! I like that it addressed common misconceptions about eggs and red meat (many people believe these are bad for your health, raise cholesterol, etc.)

This was great, as someone that has always tried to be healthy. From running track/cross-country to starting to lift about 5 years ago. This book gave me some new insights and more tools to put in my health and fitness toolbelt. It also took the stigma out of bodybuilding a bit for me. It’s not so much of a “bro culture” as it is a science. And it really is true that you can put in hours and hours of work at the gym, but if you don’t also focus on your diet you won’t see much of a change.

I’ve recently been working with a personal trainer to get in great shape for my wedding. And we’ve been touching on a lot of the same exercises mentioned in this book. It really is about the big picture - how you workout, what you eat, stress reduction, hydration, sleep. They all fuel your body in different ways.

A little bit too much focus on eating so much red meat and eggs IMO. I think there was a smoothie recipe with 6-12 eggs in it, but health is very personal. What works for others might not work for me and that's fine, to each their own! Great book overall!

The nutritional information provided was enlightening. I had no idea of the health benefits that comes with eating carnivore. Yes, I have heard about it, but this goes into detail. I was introduced to a different way of eating because of the focus on healthy fats, protein, and the function of organ meats. The training routines offered are flexible enough to accommodate different schedules. Although it was unexpected that cardio was not included, the book provides a compelling explanation. The supplements that are supported by science are what really make this book unique. The emphasis on digestion and hormone health, together with the inclusion of the most recent studies, is priceless.

This book challenges the notion that advancement inevitably follows time. It serves as a reminder that, particularly in bodybuilding, some of the most effective methods have been tried and tested and continue to be the most effective means of achieving our objectives. Having said that, this book acknowledges the development of bodybuilding; it makes no claims whatsoever that the initial exercise regimens and dietary plans were or are the greatest. The author acknowledges bodybuilding's past and describes how the sport's origins have changed to become its contemporary uses. The book's thesis is that the fundamental components of bodybuilding have remained constant throughout its development: hard effort and discipline. This author did a fine job at providing details, great work!

Seeing bodybuilding in the title, you’d be forgiven for thinking this is a guide to becoming a bodybuilder, but the goal of this book is more therapeutic than aesthetic. It aims to teach you how to be healthier by emulating the nutrition and exercise routines of the bodybuilding greats of the 1960’s through the 1980’s (Arnold Schwarzenegger and co.). The first part of the book goes over the history of this sport, then parts two and three cover exercise routines and nutrition, resp.

Overall, I found the book very informative and quite convincing. I consider myself an intermediate lifter and well-versed in food science, but I still learned a lot. In particular, the author does a great job of translating the oft-inscrutable prose of nutritional research papers into layman’s terms without sacrificing accuracy. Get ready to learn more than you ever thought you’d need to know about eggs, milk, and, yes, liver.

As you might have guessed, this book advocates a Paleo-style diet, which might not be everyone’s cup of tea. However, you don’t have to follow every suggestion exactly to get good value out of this book. I, for one, will be incorporating more full-body routines into my weightlifting, as well as upping the offal in my diet.

Highly recommended for anyone looking to get healthier!

As a complete novice in the realm of bodybuilding and nutrition, "Vintage Physique: A Golden Era Bodybuilding Guide to Health and Aesthetics" has been a transformative read for me. The author's approach to achieving a classic, balanced physique without the carb overload is truly revolutionary.

The detailed nutritional insights were eye-opening, especially the emphasis on a diet rich in high-quality protein, fats, and the inclusion of organ meats. The training routines cater to various schedules, making them adaptable for everyone. I was initially surprised by the absence of cardio, but the book convincingly explains the reasoning behind it.

What truly sets this book apart is the discussion on scientifically-backed supplements, focusing on hormonal health and digestion. The incorporation of the latest research adds immense value to the content.

The inclusion of FAQs, delicious recipes, myth-busting facts about red meat, and plateau-busting tips further enrich the reading experience. "Vintage Physique" is not just a book; it's a life-changing guide that has empowered me to take charge of my health and aesthetics. If you're looking to achieve remarkable results while understanding the 'why' behind every step, this book is an absolute game-changer! Five stars without a doubt!

Guide for aspiring bodybuilders

Is a game-changer for anyone serious about sculpting a classic, head-turning physique. This book isn't just another fad diet or workout routine—it's a comprehensive blueprint for achieving peak physical condition. What sets this guide apart is its emphasis on old-school principles that have stood the test of time. From nutrition to training, every aspect is rooted in proven methods used by the legendary bodybuilders of yesteryears.
The nutrition section alone is worth its weight in gold. Say goodbye to carb-induced crashes and hello to sustained energy and vitality. The emphasis on quality protein and healthy fats, coupled with strategic carbohydrate intake, ensures optimal performance in and out of the gym.
Training-wise, the book advocates for high-intensity, full-body workouts—a refreshing departure from the endless hours of cardio many modern fitness gurus preach. This approach not only builds muscle but also torches fat, leaving you with a physique worthy of envy.
While the content is undeniably valuable, the book could benefit from more visual aids. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, and seeing proper form demonstrated could enhance the reader's understanding of the exercises.
Follow the principles outlined within, and you'll be well on your way to sculpting the body of your dreams.

Great book with a lot of good information about lifting. I think anyone new to the sport will enjoy reading it, as well as those curious about bodybuilding's golden era.

What I loved most about this book is how it truly felt like I was reading something from the 80s or 90s. I have a deep appreciation for bodybuilding from that time, and this book really took me back. It’s impressive that the author was able to capture that era so authentically.

That said, there are a few areas where the book could be improved. Some of the information on vintage lifting techniques is outdated. For example, the author recommends a 6-12 rep range for hypertrophy, but current research shows that higher rep ranges—up to 35 reps—can also be effective for muscle growth. The 12-rep range was the conventional wisdom back in the day, but we now know there are other, more effective methods.

I really enjoyed the old-school workout routines, though I would have liked to see more specific routines from classic lifters. The photos included in the book were a nice touch and added to the nostalgic vibe.

I was also pleasantly surprised by the amount of nutrition information in the book. There’s a lot of solid advice in that section.

Overall, this is a fantastic book that really brought me back to the golden age of bodybuilding.

Finish with "Vintage Physique, a bodybuilding guide to health and aesthetics" written by George Kelly. I devoured this book last weekend reading it on my tablet with the kindle unlimited subscription of my girlfriend.

For starters, I am surprised by the quality of this book. George is a registered dietitian nutritionist that truly knows his field of expertise.
The book starts with an introduction and history of what bodybuilding is and the reason why this sport was and is so famous. The explanation of the Golden era of bodybuilding and why today is not like those good old days is simply outstanding.
Since the golden era of Bodybuilding was so enlightening for this sport, the book focuses on the kind of workouts and diet those athletes were doing back on those days. It does not matter if you are a gym expert or a newbie picking up iron, you will find this part enriching.
Finally, for me, the most important part of the book is the diet and nutrition part. George expertise is noted in this part and the explanation on why (red) meat is necessary to obtain better results and explain the false myths about this is simply perfect.

A great and surprising book, for newbies and gym experts equally.

I love the depth of knowledge the author provides the reader, plus a very thorough history. Even for a non-bodybuilder, this was an exciting read full of fascinating information. It provides great background on bodybuilding and great tips on how to get a great body. I also really enjoyed reading through the sections on the benefits of raw milk, organ meats, and particularly the breakdowns of each vitamin. The author also provides simple rules by which you can effortlessly create the perfect training program based on your daily schedule, individual needs, and preferences. The suggestions will improve health as well as physique. It contains some really good information about the history of bodybuilding and all the best practices used today. I found this book to have been well-written. The author does a fantastic job bringing old-school methods and new ones. The Vintage Physique guide is necessary for anyone looking to build muscle and maintain excellent biomarkers. I find it very helpful to study what other professionals do to perform in other disciplines. The book covers a wide range of topics related to bodybuilding, including nutrition, training, posing, and competition preparation. I recommend this read.

Vintage Physique by author George Kelly is bodybuilding guide that pays homage to Classical body building era that nurtured greats like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Frank Zane, Franco Columbo, Serge Nubret etc. This all encompassing guide provides a variety of tips on how to achieve muscularity and strength in a safe and effective way that does not ruin your health. It is clear Kelly is not a fan of modern day body building techniques where bodybuilders are simply trying to get bigger, leading to bloated to stomachs and other serious health afflictions. So the author provides information on exercise regimens to be undertaken with the routines fully chalked out in details for beginners, mid level athletes and professional bodybuilders as well. A lot of emphasis is given to ones diet to help achieve the best physique. The author goes to great lengths to break down the calorie intake of dishes, fully specifying the nutrient strength of various vitamins present in the dish. He then goes on to also explain how each of these vitamins will have an impact on your health and physique and how you should use them to get the best results. This book is an absolute must have for those looking to get back to Golden Era of bodybuilding.

No one would look at me and say, “That’s someone who likes fitness!” And yet there were aspects of this book that I found really interesting.

I picked up this book because I was curious about the lifting trend that I have been seeing online, not so much body building making a comeback, but using weights to tone the body, and I wondered why it was suddenly getting popular. Turns out it was always popular, we just have social media now so it is exposing people to the activity in a new way.

I am a nerd that likes to know the history of things, even things that don’t have much to do with my hobbies or interests. I found the early history (body building goes back to Ancient Greece!) fascinating, as well as the section on eggs and organ meats and what causes inflammation to be most interesting as a reader that doesn’t plan to take up the sport (lifestyle).

The book is easy to read, clean, well-organized for beginners to advanced athletes. Even if you don’t want to be a competitive lifter, there is a big section on routine and another on diet that could be very helpful to reaching your goals.
