Silly me, given the cover and the title I thought we'd be reading about Wookies. Turns out we get 1-2 pages about Chewbacca, and the rest is about other various aliens in Star Wars. (By the way, "alien" is defined as "not human", but there is no explanation as to what "human" is. Since this book is aimed at beginning readers....) So if you want a page about Chewbacca and a page about Jar-Jar and a page about a number of other random Star Wars creatures, then you'll enjoy this.

My son and I just read this and are no closer to knowing what a wookie is than we were before we read it.

He enjoyed learning about other random aliens and droids, but…

I finally know what a Wookie is!!

Just kidding, this book had barely anything about Wookies. This does make me want an in-universe science textbook kind of book about them, though.

Star Wars: What is a Wookiee? is a DK Readers, Level 1 book for beginning readers. I found this book to be a huge disappointment because the only mention of a Wookiee was on page 13. In my opinion this book is an informational text on the supporting characters in the Star Wars film series. It tells readers about various characters, their purpose in the Star Wars universe and gives a short and simple explanation about the characters' history and purpose.

We've now read a few of those Star Wars DK Readers, and this one is probably the easiest one, with very basic vocabulary, aside from some Star Wars lingo. It's actually not about Wookiees, contrary to what the title might suggest (the cover of this edition is a lot more representative of the contents of this book), although there is a page about Chewbacca. Instead, it features a few of the creatures encountered in the Star Wars series, such as wookies, Ewoks, droids, Gungans, Hutts, a Toydarian, a Dug, ...

Great early reader and quite a bit easier than some of the other level 1 readers in this Star Wars series.

My Review: Munchkin and I picked this book out at the library, figuring a level 1 book is great for him and he loves Star Wars particularly Chewie. Turns out this really isn't a book about wookies, but about a bunch of the different species you meet in the series from Episode I through Episode VI. It was also a lot more difficult than most Level 1 books, Munchkin can usually read those on his own, this one however had a lot of text with small images and a quite a few difficult words (I would say this would be more of a later Level 2 or even Level 3 book). It was fun having seeing a lot of the alien races and learning a bit about what makes them unique but the title was rather a poor representation of what the book contained.

Although the title suggests that this book is about Wookiees, it is really an exploration of many alien animals found throughout the Star Wars universe. It is narrated by C3PO and includes an explanation of the different androids as well.

C-3PO tells you of some of the creatures who live in the Star Wars Universe. There's a few in depth pages about how C-3PO has changed throughout the years, Watto's Shop and, my favorite, the dishes served at Dex's Diner!

Narrated by C-3PO, this beginning reader introduces readers to humans, aliens, and droids from the Star Wars universe.

Photos from the Star Wars films accompany the text. A glossary is included at the back of the book.

Wookiees are barely mentioned! Furthermore Gungans we’re sneaked into this book! Libraries should NOT be allowing children to check out books with this kind of content! I will be raising my complaint at the next city council meeting!

A good reminder of the first trilogy and a good intro to the second.

This is a nice simple early reader introducing kids to some of the aliens and other creatures found in the Star Wars universe. C3P0 does a basic introduction to the idea of aliens and space for the sake of those not in the know and then talks about some of the main features of some of the creatures. Fun and gentle with some great simple words and explanation of how to pronounce some of the harder names!!

I read this book to share with my grandson, Ryan. While I am not a fan of the Star Wars movies, I know that he is. The book was written in simple language with graphic pictures. The book seemed more like an encyclopedia of the various characters and vocabulary used in the Star Wars movies. There is no story-line in the book, but we learn that Wookiees are tall furry aliens. It would be good to read this book before watching the movies.

With photographs complimenting the text, this is a great beginning reader for Star Wars fans. Kids not interested in the film will most likely not enjoy this read. The story is very dry, it is simply the droid character C3-P0 telling about the creatures and characters in the Star Wars world. Characters include droids, aliens and ewoks.

This is about the creatures in Star Wars and why they exist. I would use this to have the students show thier site words. I would also have the students also use tally marks to tally how many of each site words.

A fun twist on a reading primer, but deceptively, not really about Wookies. Every time the page is turned, a new character is discussed which was a bit overwhelming for my non-Star-Wars-indoctrinated 6 year old.
