The Brief Edition of A PEOPLE AND A NATION offers a succinct and spirited narrative that tells the stories of all people in the United States. The authors' attention to race and racial identity and their inclusion of everyday people and popular culture brings history to life, engaging readers and encouraging them to imagine what life was really like in the past.
I had to read this book for a class. It was pretty good for a textbook, very informative about the history of the United States. I thought the authors did a pretty good job of being objective and showing the pros and cons of either side. It was even mildly entertaining at some parts, which is why I kept reading. (Almost everyone else in my class stopped trying after chapter one.) It was pretty dry, though, so only a three.
