This book is very special to me. It was given to me after a rough year in my life; my step daughter moved out in anger, my husbands grandmother (who was more like his mother) choked to death in the nursing home after sipping on water, a friend who survived a double lung transplant and was thriving in life got a rare blood bacteria and died within 48 hours, another friend got an almost unheard of form of cancer and died and then my house burned, taking everything I owned. All of that happened in a six month period, while I was working the most I ever had in a job that required my soul (not literally, but it felt like is stole my soul).

The doctor I was working for, scheduled a consultant to review our practice. This is a three day, in depth process. Almost like someone digging through your closet looking for skeletons. He forgot to tell me about it and I found out the day before she was arriving. I was dealing with all that I mentioned above, trying to build a new home, fill out hundreds of pages of paperwork for my homeowners insurance to claim our losses, and still manage a multi million dollar practice. Stressed is an understatement.

The next morning, the consultant, Annette, came in. I tried my best to be professional, polite and give her all of the things she was asking for. After lunch, she closed the door to my office and said she wanted to talk. She could tell something going on, despite my smile and professional appearance. I told her I was a little stressed because I had just found out the day before that she was coming and it caught me off guard. She said God told her there was more to the story. All of a sudden, I broke down sobbing. I don't cry easily and had not even taken the time to cry over all that had happened that year. Now I find myself sobbing and pouring my heart out to a total stranger, who by the way, invaded my territory at the worst time possible. :)

She hugged and comforted me just as a mother would. Then she said she wanted to share her story, because she could relate to the stress I was carrying and the fact that I had shoved it deep, down inside so I wouldn't have to face it all. She said she rarely told her entire story but that she felt "led by God" to share the detailed version with me. She was in the second World Trade Center tower when the planes struck. She proceeded to tell me her amazing story of survival, in vivid and graphic details that you don't hear about on the 9/11 documentaries. During that same time period, her husband died from brain cancer (exact same type of cancer my mother died from years later) and her beautiful home in West Palm Beach, FL, flooded. She cried. I cried. I felt as though my story paled in comparison to hers, but she insisted that wasn't so. It was MY story and it was MY pain. We had the same pain, just different stories, but she insisted it wasn't the story that mattered. It was the hurt inside of us and the healing that had to take place.

Her best friend had given her this book as she was facing the struggles with PTSD and unimaginable grief and hurt from the experience. She strongly suggested I get the book and read it. I told her I would. Then she went to her briefcase and got her copy of the book out that her friend had given her. She said she was afraid that I wouldn't get to the store to buy the book so she was giving me her copy, and she would stop on her way back home to get her another copy. I was amazed at the fact she would give me a book that was so special to her and given to her by a precious friend. Such a selfless act of kindness and compassion. We are still friends to this day and share a special relationship through email and social networking, even though we haven't seen each other in 12 years.

This book has touched my heart at just the right time, over and over again, since she gave it to me in 2002. I often give it as a gift.

This is a very nice book to keep by your bedside. It has a page for each day of the year that includes a short message/inspirational thought for the day. A nice way to end your day on a positive note. (it does have a Christian theme, though - so if that does not appeal to you, then you might want to skip this one)

I got this as a Christmas gift a couple of years ago. Max Lucado has a fresh way of looking at even the most familiar Bible verses and extracting practical wisdom from them. Each day includes a verse and a couple of paragraphs. These devotionals can be read in about 3 minutes. Great way to start (or end) your day.

This book wasn't great. I usually enjoy any book by Max Lucado but this book was just reprinted excerpts of some of his other books and it was not done very well. Some of the devotions in this book were really good but most were choppy and weren't long enough to make the point that Max Lucado was trying to make in his books. I would recommend reading the actual books by Max Lucado instead of reading this book because they are much better.

Very nice.

I got this as a Confirmation present from my uncle/godfather and I only read a few passages here and there. One day I decided to read the whole thing during the time of Lent. If you want a boost to your wellbeing then this makes a good read.

I have quite a few daily Bible reading and teaching podcasts in my rotation, but when it comes to the written word, I don’t tend to turn to Christian content nearly as often as I should, and that includes actual Bible reading. In looking for a way to start making that more of a habit, I found an old copy of “Grace For the Moment: Volume 1” by Max Lucado that had been on my shelves for a while, as it was eye-catching, but not really attention grabbing at the time.

Describing itself as offering “inspirational thoughts for each day of the year”, it seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. Indeed, that’s how it is set out, with the book consisting of a collection of single page readings each topped with a Bible verse and then containing a few short paragraphs taken from one of Max Lucado’s books. Each month is prefaced by an illustration and an additional Bible verse, but otherwise the book focuses on the text rather than images, as I have seen from other Max Lucado collections.

Unlike other books of his I’ve read, the content here does focus more on Biblical truths than it does on life advice and general wisdom. Mostly, although not always, the section of writing will have been selected to tie in with the Biblical quote for the day and at least part of the passage will be related to the quote. That said, this part of the reading for the day is nothing more than that, as whilst there is some worth to be had from the passage, there is very little more than that.

This is the main downside to this book, as although the thoughts may be inspirational, although this is not the case as often as I would have liked, there is little more than this. There is no encouragement in your faith, or suggestions for further study, reading or prayer points and no direction towards anything outside of this book. Indeed, the only notations that there are at the bottom of each page is the title of the book it came from, which with there being nothing else to be gained suggests the whole book is little more than 365 daily advertisements for Max Lucado’s writings.

This is a collection of readings that will occupy you for a few minutes each day, but leave you with nothing of value thereafter. It might encourage a daily reading habit, but it won’t strengthen your faith or teach you anything or inspire any other growth other than mere reading. Having seen other similar books where they also add prayer points or directions to just the thoughts of the author, this one offers nothing different other than a compact and easy to handle size.

Years ago my husband gave me this daily devotional book, bound in leatherette with pages edged in gold, my name engraved in the cover. It sat on a bookshelf for almost two decades, because whenever January rolled around, I forgot I had it. A daily devotional must be started on January 1, or soon thereafter, if you are as obsessively compulsive as I. This year, I meant to read another devotional my husband had given me years ago, but this one found its way into my hand. It looks ancient because the leatherette spine has rotted. Not so deluxe after all.

Max Lucado is the beloved author of over a hundred Christian books for adults and for children. But I was disappointed in this one. Maybe because I read My Utmost for His Highest last year. Compared to that book, which Oswald Chambers’ wife put together from his talks and sermons after his death, Lucado’s Grace for the Moment (the original one; he’s written other volumes by that name since) seems rather lightweight.

Each of the 365 devotionals begin with a scripture verse, followed by an excerpt from one of fifteen of Lucado’s other books. My problem with it is that sometimes I can’t see a connection between the verse and the excerpt. It’s almost as if it putting it together was an assignment given to an unpaid intern. I don’t know if that’s true; it’s just my impression.

People who love Max Lucado are going to buy Grace for the Moment. But if you have a lot of his books, you probably have all of this material anyway—in context. There are lots of great devotional books out there, and Grace for the Moment isn’t one of them. If you want a challenging one, I’ll recommend My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers.

I used to not be a devotional type person. Then my wife bought me this some years ago. I have since gone through this one twice and explored a few others. Grace for the Moment fully converted me into a daily devotional kind of guy.

This devotional takes samplings from various Lucado books and pairs them with scriptures to challenge you to dig a little deeper in your walk with God each day. Doesn't take more than five to ten minutes of your time to read and reflect on each devotional.

If you have never been into devotionals this is the book to use to give it a try. I must warn you that it may make you want to buy the books the samplings come from.

This books gets five stars for quality writing, moving writing, sound Biblical teachings, and enjoyability.

Lucado's little book is a compilation of thoughts from all of his full-length books. I have had this book for some time now....and re-read it from time to time. Some of his insights are remarkable...fresh and helpful.

'Short reflections that provide impactful lessons
Valuable insight to help you see the everyday moments God is present
Inspirational insight on how to choose love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, and faithfulness'

At 82 this book has enabled me to accomplish a "bucket" list that I had been trying to do for many years. Every morning I begin my day with a cup of coffee and this days bible verses which it says helps you to read the bible in one year. I started January of 2022 and am now on November of 2022. This enables me to start the day with prayer and meditation and has greatly improved my life. God is still in charge of our lives if we will listen and digest His word, the Good News!!

A compilation of devotions. Some are great, most are just okay. They are short, easy to read - maybe too short and easy to read. But, if you are looking for devotions you can easily read before bed, or starting your morning, thus book will work. If you are looking to grow your spiritual depth, you might want something else.

This book of daily devotions was "Just right" for me as I started on my Bible study journey. It was wonderful to read each day's entry and then find out how relevant it was for me. Mr. Lucado writes with a great sense of passion and common sense - a balance of religious thought that is presented in today's circumstances. Highly recommend.

This was a very enlightening book for me. There are 365 inspirational thoughts in this book...a page a day if you will (a lot of the time I read more than one). I'd never read anything by Max Lucado before, and found his work to be very down-to-earth and understandable. It also answered some questions that I had about God and Jesus that I have never found an answer to before.

Grace for the Moment by Max Lucado is a short daily reminder of God's grace. I have read another of Lucado's book which was more of a devotion with some selected Bible readings as well as a meditation on that reading. This book is just a short thought or two. It isn't bad, but I would like the added Bible study.

Thoughtful and mindful

I have been reading this same book for years, starting over every January. I love his books because they make sense to me. Every morning I start with Love, patience, kindness, goodness, joy, gentleness, to these I commit my day if I succeed I will give thanks if I fail I will ask God for forgiveness and try again tomorrow.

Daily meditation

This book brings daily peace as I begin my morning reading it. Many affirmations of biblical promises. I like the way this is written with many ways to present the same principle of God is love & we must accept & welcome into our lives.

Great, little book for morning quiet time. Every day there's Scripture with a thought or story to help us understand this life and picture eternity.

Although, the book's pages are marked January 1 through December 31, I read a couple of pages each day.
