Real Women Scrap offers guidance for transformative scrapbooking and creative living. Filled with practical tips, inspiring stories, and insightful strategies, this life-changing guide shows readers how to use key elements in scrapbooking to reconnect with themselves. Drawing parallels between the lessons of the scrapbook page and the lessons of living, author Tasra Dawson connects the wisdom of a beloved pastime with timeless principles for improving busy women'ss lives.
Well, I may never read this, considering that I'm not a real woman, but considering that it is written by someone in my writer's group, I figured it was best to include it somewhere. Maybe I'll get around to it one day and do a psychoanlytic reading, or maybe go deconstructionist on it-- but then what will we do with the scraps? (hahahaha....) Seriously, Tasra knows what she's talking about, and I recommend this for anyone (probably a woman, but hey, it's the new millenium) who likes crafty type stuff and preserving memories. From the little I know of it, scrap-booking seems like a cool way to pull the bits of your personal and family history together into a concrete (well, probably actually made of paper and that sort of stuff) artifact, tying your life up into a nice little bundle that allows easier access to the past. One of my favorite things to do with my extended family is watch slides or look at picture books, and I would think that this falls into a similar category. By Tasra's book and make her rich so her success rubs off on me!
I don't scrapbook, I do write. I take pictures, I collect things, we travel, we do stuff. But I don't do the whole sit down and make beautiful pages and books. I would love to--but my 19 hour days preclude that. Well, this book made me see I need to make just a little more time and that I could make a little more time and that it was way way important to my family to make that little bit of time. I don't have to do the HUGE scrapook thing--I can make changes and bits of time to focus on my family and myself and create memories---and most importantly---some time and space for myself.
This book is about putting everything in perspective. It's not just a book about scrapbooking. It's a book about life, about creativitiy, about being a woman in this day and age, and living your life. I've loaned it to students, to fellow teachers, to a few friends, and everyone has come away with something. (I even made my husband read some of it!!!) It's good.
There are TONS of books out there about scrapbooking, but this book has a fresh approach to apply scrapbooking techniques to real-life. A great book to build up my desire to put some layouts together - just right to light that creative spark!
a great book for all you papercrafters/scrapbookers out there... talks about the meaning behind all our pages/creations.. great book.. the author is fantastic! Tasra Dawson, I love her!
I learned that scrapbooking does not have to be complicated, what I do with my photographs is good enough and I don't have to measure my worth to whatever the latest trend is.
