Bruno Bettelheim (1903-1990) was an Austrian-born American child psychologist and writer. He gained an international reputation for his views on autism and for his claimed success in treating emotionally disturbed children.
I bet no one is seizing the lyrical dimension of Bettelheim’s writings that allow me to romanticize some tragic memories of my childhood in a country where his theories were, and are, applied at their fullest. It allows me some precious hindsight and introspection regarding my past life that is liberating my psyche in this case. Bettelheim’s english is the best I’ve ever read and despite the controversies haunting him, I believe he was fully aware of the path he had taken and knew others viewpoints existed, yet decided to take that fateful road that lead to mistankenly blame mothers for the problems of their offsprings. I recommand this book.
