Interesting read. I love books that give a peek behind the curtain of pro wrestling. A follow up would be fascinating because this was written in 2003 and A LOT of stuff has gone down since then (especially Lita/Edge/Matt and Jeff's struggles with sobriety).
This book I really enjoyed and I'm glad i finished it this time. I started it before a few years ago and never finished it. This time I was determined to do so and I really had a great time reading this book.
Its about the Hardy boyz and how they grew up in North Carolina. It was about what they did growing up in a single parent home after their mother died and how they got into wrestling and how not being properly trained to wrestle helped them to get to the point that they were and was able to make it in to the WWE as jobbers, which is to make the match look good as you lose for a guy who has been in the business longer but gives you the experience in the ring. Its about how they become WWE superstars.
This book was very good and I really enjoyed learning about this tag team since they were one of my favorites. I liked how they talked about matches and the things that go in to the match and after a match is over. I learned a lot about what we don't get to see on TV. It was great. I never thought about some of the things that go into a match.
I never really thought about how much planning goes into the match and how the match will go before it is actually done and what we see. I never thought about the things that we do not see afterwards and with this book it gives some of the behind the scenes and how things are done that never gets shown. I liked that Matt and Jeff talked about their frustrations about somethings that went into some of the matches they were in. How they thought they were to win but were told almost last minute that they were not going to win the tag titles and other things like that.
It was a great book to read and I am glad that I did because it was great to get to know about one of my fave tag teams in WWE.
The book i read for my final independent reading is a autobiography entitled Exist To Inspire. It was written by Jeff and Matt Hardy. These two brothers are professional athletes and this book demonstrates how they got into the professional wrestling business, as well as the accomplishments that they made whilst in the business. This book gave me a lot of information about them that i wasn't aware of. It also demonstrates the hardships that Jeff particularly went through because of his love for climbing things and his appearance. The two brothers father was a heavy drug addict and he was unemployed and for a brief moment the family used to live on the streets. As Jeff Hardy turned eighteen his house was burned down and his dog and girlfriend died. This was one of the roughest times i his life as he was just about to propose. Jeff was also blamed for his fathers drug trafficking charges. Jeff, who is my favorite athlete in the world, looked different from his parents and his brother. It also demonstrates how when they got older how much they had to do to get into the business that they love and how they did while in that business. Jeff Hardy, despite his past hardships rose to the top of the business and his persistence is one of the reasons he is one of my role models. I would recommend this book to all sports fans and all Jeff Hardy fans as well as people who like inspirational stories. I would rate this book five stars because it is a brilliant book which demonstrates everything they both went through in immense detail.
I ordered it 2 weeks ago, I was thinking of cutting my veins! I looked Hardy Boyz photos I hang on mirror! Decided to have a real fight and beat all obstacles as my heroes did! So, I got the book! It taught me a lot! I am so grateful for them both for saving my life! Yeah, I am falling into darkness
WWE autobiography, published in the early 2000s, by a popular superstar(s) with an enjoyable journey into professional wrestling, previously known only to the most dedicated of fans. Once again, this combination easily results in a 5 star rating and a true page turner! The Hardy Boyz handle the telling of their life story by individually narrating each segment, with Matt - as the oldest, more experienced and talkative brother - composing a majority of the book. One of my favorite parts of these WWE books is the constant urge to look up the video of the promo, moment or match that the wrestler is describing. Whether I watched said moment live or not, I love re-living it through the eyes of the author! The Hardy’s could’ve gone more in-depth in detailing their memories of their famous spots in the ladder and TLC matches, but I was satisfied nonetheless. As with all wrestlers, a sequel biography would be appreciated, especially for the Hardy’s, as their career is still alive nearly 20 years following this publication.
Who doesn’t love the Hardy Boyz? I did and that made me very excited to read this book and get a peek into their lives.
I love that this book is written in an interview style and is so easy to follow along with as sometimes my attention span doesn’t allow me to fully enjoy a book.
Matt and Jeff do a great job to not fully break kayfabe but allow you to see their rise in wrestling through the 1st breakup of their tag team.
I do hope that is this is written in 2023, we will someday get a second book giving us more.
Dare 2 Defy and pick up a copy of Exist to Inspire today and don’t be sorry about it.
The format is odd, it switches back and forth between the two, in almost a conversational mode, as though the guy who actually wrote it was too lazy to take his interview sessions and do anything other than transcribe them.
It is interesting though to read this book alongside Edge's much better biography. They mirror each other at a certain point and it is very interesting to see some of the similar stories from three different points of view. I have not read Lita's book, but I imagine you could also throw that one in the mix as well.
Exist 2 Inspire is one of the rare wrestling autobiographies written by two people, which is written in an interview-like style that takes turns between Matt and Jeff. The book covers their lives and career up to 2003 and covers all the bases in great detail. Both Matt and Jeff come off as authentic and genuine in their accounts, and for a book that has a unique and challenging storytelling formula, Exist 2 Inspire delivers in an wrestling book that is massively underrated.
Really interesting read, a follow on would be really interesting as I know Jeff had issues with alcohol after, would be interesting from his point of view
I was a huge fan of The Hardy Boyz when I was a kid. They made me enjoy watching wrestling with my father and brother. When I read this book it was like traveling back in time to those nights. It was nice to read how Matt and Jeff became the The Hardy Boyz as seen on TV. It did take me a minute to adjust to the back and forth, conversational type writing that they used. Once I did, it was a good read and includes pictures of what they are referencing.
I love wrestling and this book is definitely a great one to read if you enjoy wrestling. The interesting point of this autobiography is that it actually is formatted more like an interview then anything else. When you see both Matt and Jeff Hardy taking turns about retelling some of the stories of their lives, its pretty cool. Another thing I like is how there is always that hint of jealousy between brothers. Hearing from Matt how Jeff always got the push rather then him was interesting to hear because you don't really think like that so much when they wrestle together. I think the best part is that this book shows that Matt and Jeff are both two different people. A lot of the world would view them as The Hardy Boyz, but not a lot of people would view them as two separate individuals with distinct tastes and personalities. The way that they are portrayed on TV definitely doesn't represent them well. If they are presented as the Hardy Boys, you usually think they are very similar, but that isn't the case as the book explores into their childhood and everything you could want to know about them. Overall, I recommend this to people who want a different spin on an autobiography.
I really like this story of how two small town boys also they're brothers grew up to be wrestlers. I usually don't really get into biography's, but I really enjoyed this one!! I loved the stories of the brothers crazy adventures when they were children and on the road. This story really does "inspire" you to never give up on your dreams. I really love the younger brother Jeff Hardy because no matter how much he is criticized by the way he dresses or makes himself look he still does it. He does it with pride and confidence. He's a great inspiration of being your true self! It's amazing how one day they have their own little backyard wrestling "OMEGA" and the next they're in the ring with actual superstars. It shows even the littlest things can lead up to the biggest!!

This is about the journey of two brothers from a small town in North Carolina. The two of them grew up with a difficult childhood losing their mother at an early age, the only thing that gave them hope was every other day when world wrestling played on the television. Professional wrestling is what kept these brothers amused and motivated. Jeff and Matt Hardy spent their time in the background with a wrestling ring made with trees and rope. This passion for the sport grew to their dream coming to realization when they were able to go professional. Jeff and Matt grew to be one of the most charismatic tag teams in the industry. I recommend this book to anybody who likes sports or appreciates hearing about how two brothers overcome their problems and find success.
A book for fans of the duo. Not much in the way of tell-all wrestling dish, but a quick and interesting insight into one of the most popular - and troubled - tag teams in wrestling history. If this book could be re-written today, without the watchful eye of WWE looking on, I have a feeling it would be far more interesting considering the significant amount of controversy among Matt, Jeff, and the Vince McMahon machine.
I bought the book because I totally love Matt and Jeff. . . Not one of the best biographies I've read, but then again it's a book put out by WWE about wrestlers who were big stars at the time and were making them a lot of money, of course they were going to slap together a book about them. . . It could have been more well written, but then again so could many other books. . .Bottom line, if you really wanna read it, I'd borrow it from someone before you buy it.
Nothing much to say other than this is an auto biography on Matt and Jeff Hardy. If your a fan you will love it, but if not then you probably won't care either way. As a fan I found it very insightful into the lives of Matt and Jeff, and the struggles they endured to make it into the wrestling business. Not to mention the struggles they went through at a young age with the death of their mother.
I read this in high school and it sits on my book shelves now. It's special to me. I've always been a wrestling fan and very much so enjoyed this book. Matt & Jeff changed wrestling forever. From ladder matches to high flying stunts. They wrestled in a great era of wrestling. Sadly they aren't in the WWE anymore.
I can never express what this book meant to me-more than I ever COULD express. I LOVE the Boyz, that's no secret to anyone I know but the fact that reading this book at just the right time in my life, made a HUGE difference in a lot of things. Thank yuo, Matt and Jeffro-love you always
As a hardy fan i loved reading this book. You really get to learn more about Matt hardy. He's the major reason that the hardyz are so popular and yet jeff gets all the credit on wwe raw.
An interesting autobiography of sorts from the WWE's Hardy Boyz. Matt did most of the writing and story-telling while Jeff added his bits in here and there. Quick read.
My favorite wrestlers spin amazing tales from the road, their childhood, and hopes for the future. Foreshadowing also to Jeff's problems, but a few story definitely made me laugh right out loud.
