Very good overall quality. Please keep in mind that this manga is in Japanese and that there may be some slight yellowing due to the age of the paper. Please feel free to ask us any questions you may have.
Hirohiko Araki ( 荒木飛呂彦) is a Japanese manga artist. He left school before graduation from Miyagi University of Education.
He enjoys the baseball manga Kyojin No Hoshii (Star of the Giants); the video games Mario Kart and Bomberman; and likes Prince and other African-American singers, as well as jazz, rock, and rap.
I've been thinking about what more the corpse could represent. I remember reading somewhere that Araki described it as a sense satisfaction or peace? I can kind of see that. Johnny and Gyro don't have a practical, articulable reason for wanting to pursue the corpse parts outside of powering up. There's some indication that the corpse might lead to Johnny's legs moving, but Johnny doesn't seem to realize this. Regardless of what it literally is, Johnny sees the corpse as something to move towards. As he pursues the corpse, he pushes his limits and grows as a person. As Johnny later says, chasing the corpse makes him feel reborn, while giving it up will cause his soul to start dying again. It seems to me that the most important thing the corpse represents for Johnny is purpose. Something to chase after, something to hone his skills for, something to get him out of bed in the morning. In order to continue chasing the corpse, Johnny must continually enter the "true man's world" and come back a stronger person.
Related to this is Johnny's past. He never had a secure, stable, long-term relationship with a loving caregiver. The only love he's received (apart from his brother's) has been conditional love. Whether it be through earning his father's approval, or obtaining that love from fans. Johnny sought the hollow love he got from groupies for two reasons. First, because it was familiar. He had to earn his father's love, so he now seeks out similar relationships as an adult. And second, because he could at least control it. Johnny has a degree of control over whether or not he is a good racer. And because of that, he has control over whether or not his groupies love him.
I think this pattern of conditional love has contributed to Johnny's sense of guilt. If he has internalized the idea that he is not worthy of others' love and must work to earn it, it is very easy to come to the conclusion that of course Dio is telling the truth, of course the rat who killed Nicholas is Danny, and of course it's Johnny's fault. Johnny does not love himself enough to forgive himself. And that's why he was prepared to give up and die. Johnny believes that he cannot run from guilt forever and that he must pay the price for his "sin".
A highlight for me is the relationship between Johnny and Gyro. They have the same sort of stupid conversations that you would have with real friends. And they are able to argue without it being an existential threat to the relationship. One of my biggest pet peeves in storytelling is when two characters argue and have to "not be friends" for some contrived reason or over a lame misunderstanding.. Moments where it's obvious the two will squash their beef, but we have to do this because it raises the stakes. Johnny and Gyro have had a few moments where that could have been the case, such as when Johnny cost Gyro the second leg of the race, when Johnny interfered in the duel with Dio, and when Johnny said that Gyro wasn't hungry enough to beat Dio. But instead they stick together because the underlying friendship is stronger than a temporary conflict.
Another nice touch is the way characters like Gaucho and Dot Han have been used. It's nice to have the cast of named racers be a bit more fleshed out, even if it's not for the sake of setting up fights down the road. If nothing else, it makes the racing segments more engaging and convinces me to pay closer attention when they are eventually sacrificed for the sake of introducing our true enemies.
Lastly, I'm excited to see what comes of the situation with Dio. It's great to see that his character is so dynamic, as past Jojo villains (outside of maybe Kira) tend to be resolute and immovable. But Dio is far from unshakable, growing more motivated after obtaining the eye and making a compromise in working with the president. This is something he likely wouldn't have considered had he not lost so resoundingly. But he's become desperate for revenge thanks to SBR's structure allowing for multiple non-lethal battles.
I said at the beginning of this story that I liked how it seemed to have such a varied cast of characters each with their own stories and priorities and such, but by this time I've basically given up on that. It's just Johnny and Gyro now, the others reduced to cameos or arc villains. Shame. A huge missed opportunity there.
i think this is a really important volume for part 7's story as it establishes johnny's roots, mindset, and cognition in his life. it showcases lucy steel's determination and love for her husband, brings about really intense and well paced scenes, and quite simply a pretty emotional set of chapters for the cast. i felt sad reading more of johnny's backstory and it was painful; to see how his upbringing and attitude were shaped and how he carries himself now because of neglect, which eventually and unfortunately snowballs into greater consequences as he continues living. i feel like this is also the beginning of gyro's more deliberate care and affection towards johnny as a friend, with subtle yet brash comments to uplift johnny. part 7 has been such a deilght to read
OH LUCY I FUCKKKKKKK WITH YOU OMG. girl is only 14 and doing so much shit … if only it wasnt for her PEDO HUSBAND. but ugh LOVE HER. LOVE GYRO AND JOHNNY … or should i say Jonathon’s, RELATIONSHIP. HE SAID THE THING. HE SAID THE PIZZA MOZZARELLA. … but anyways. fuck johnnys backstory is rough. i love seeing it compared to universe one because like … danny lived but at what cost? i love how gyro and johnny developing so far UGH
I found this volume to be incredibly engrossing. It is paced well, gorgeously illustrated, and provides a wealth of interesting character interactions as well as intense investigative mystery-combat. I have heard that Sandman's characterization in the upcoming volume may be noncontiguous with his existing traits, so it will be interesting to observe that.
Series: Steel Ball Run #10 Rating: 3 stars - I liked it
The fourth part of the race has started and Gyro and Johnny have the location of the next three pieces. Johnny and Gyro are attacked by a new stand who seems to be working with Dio. I am very interested in seeing what happens next during this fight.
They're sooooo gay in this one I love it. And it's Jesus confirmed? Also I love that they brought Koichi's stand back it was too good to leave in part 4, #KoichiMyGoat. Johnny's backstory is pretty cwazy, I feel like it's gonna be revealed that Dio put the mouse there or something but that's feels kinda dumb. Emotionally unavailable fathers becoming a theme is pretty funny too, #real.

Phenomenal volume imo, and one that is more character/motivation driven than the others. The backstory we learn about didn't disappoint and it's a little bit heartbreaking! But it puts that character's motivation into perspective and I like them so much more because of it.
ME ENCANTO todo lo de danny y el hermano de johnny, y las hojas en blanco y negro al final donde explican lo de los stands y comparan el hamon con las steel balls, no alcanzan las estrellas para ratear este manga
johnny joestar makes me so emotional 😭 babygirl deserves only good things, im glad he finally has someone who really cares about him and won't give up on him
p.s. shoutout to the cheese song the boys rly should consider forming a band i would stream
Pretty good 7th part of Jojo’s bizarre Adventures and far from the best! This series lacks awesome intense fights and the story of this series was dull😭😁❤️❤️
