Well this one was bizarre like every JoJo part. Tho this one did have a weak cast of supporting characters compared to the previous parts. Probably my least favorite JoJo part till now. But I'm excited about part 7 since it's supposed to be the best part. 🤗

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is my new favorite thing in the entire world. I watched part 1-4 in last months and I'm currently watching ongoing part 5, but I needed more Jojo in my life so here we are.
While different parts of Jojo arcs are connected, you can read them independently, this is why I am able to start reading part 6 without waiting for the anime adaptation to complete.

In Stone Ocean we follow Jolyne Cujoh, 19 year girl, who was framed and put in Green Dolphin Street Jail. Jolyne is the daughter of Jotaro, protagonist of part 3. Jolyne is instantly lovable character! I was drawn to her from the first time I saw an art of her on twitter, I am happy to say that I like as a protagonist too. I like her vulnerability and her strength, she is free-spirited and determined. I'm more than ready to follow her on her bizarre adventure of prison break because hell yes, we are breaking from that prison and we are taking revenge.

The illustrations are stunning, the entire volume is in full color, the panel composition is great, the character designs are memorable and fun to look at. Jolyne herself looks so good, what a star, I love her. And the creepy, gross, bizarre things were well-crafted, too.

I'm so happy to experience Hirohiko Araki's jjba manga. Before part 6, I've read a Rohan oneshot, but part 6 is on another scale entirely and I'm so ready!

Holy friggin cow guys, that sudden ending is raising billions of questions which is making me head spin like woahhhhhhhh boy!

This is actually my first manga to read from the Jojo franchise like I was so disappointed that I wasn't liking Part 4 and Part 5, that's why I just had to give Part 6 a go. Well damn lads, it was literally the best choice I ever made!!!

I absolutely love the fact we have a female main character who is honestly a badass like her father and just reminded me of Jotaro atw (duh he's her dad,of course it runs in the Jojo bloodline). I even liked the other characters who tagged along with her like Hermes, FF, Emporio, Anasui and Weather Report.

Tbh I'm pretty speechless on what to say next cause a lot of truly bizzare (pun intended) events happened in this folks and I still can't wrap my head that ending man.

Yeah just read this if you've seen the animes already out or the earlier manga of the Jojo franchise, this will literally blow your mind in many ways!

Jolyne is hot and probably the closest we’ll ever get to a queer woman in jojo’s. Love the prison setting and we have to appreciate Araki setting this in Florida of all places. He probably doesn’t know the Florida memes and put it there because Disney World is there but it’s still pretty funny.

Here we go. I've been waiting a long time to dig into Stone Ocean. I've been eagerly awaiting Araki's depiction of Florida and the American prison system. Japanese portrayals of American culture consistently fascinate me. I'm always eager to learn what collectivists think of America.

And so far, part 6 doesn't disappoint. The colors really pop, that landscape feels truly Floridian, and the linework continues to improve. I love the proliferation of palm trees. And the prison system is fittingly portrayed as an inhumane institution (even if GD street prison does give its victims more freedom than most real American prisons). I'm suprised by how much Araki fleshes out aspects of prison life in the first few volumes.

Character designs are also a highlight. Colors are put to good use in this regard, especially with Jolyne. Thanks in part to my fondness for a mix of green and black, Jolyne is one of my favorite character designs in Jojo. Her personality is a lot like a softer, more accessible take on Jotaro.

However, I do feel the the inner monologues for Jolyne, Giorno, and Josuke are little too similar. There are subtle differences, of course. But I would prefer to see a similar level of contrast as there was between Jonathan, Joseph, and Jotaro. Those three were like night and day, where as the latter triad is more about slight differences. It's not a big deal, though.

Lastly, I want to highlight how cool it is to have an action shonen with a largely female cast. Of course, that shouldn't be noteworthy, but it unfortunately is. Especially in 2000. Despite my concerns, Araki doesn't compromise by toning down the violence or subject matter just because he's using a female cast. Guess still gets that trademark Jojo beatdown. Characters are still posing and contorting in weird ways. The outfits are still fabulous, yet dumb as hell. The minor characters are still ugly as hell. This is still Jojo through and through, just with a largely female cast. It's great.

Altogether, this is a strong start for Stone Ocean.

This part doesn't get the credit it deserves. Sandwiched between Golden Wind and Steel Ball Run the two best parts of JoJo's and a lot of people just speed reading it to get to Steel Ball Run this part appears as a low point in the JoJo's series. But it is not.

Stone Ocean tells the story of Jotaro's daughter Jolyne who gets falsely imprisoned and now has to face the legacy of the Joestar bloodline. This is a coming of age story of Jolyne picking up the responsibilities that her father left to her and bring the legacy of the Joestars to an end that will leave you with a bittersweet feeling.

Intriguing start to the story, excited to see where this will lead. Psycho first enemy, obsessed with cute voices, shrinking people and making them wear the skin of dead animals. Jolyne has so much attitude, such a cool chick. It's bizarre and so fun, I love it.

Jjba is one of my favorite works of literature. Araki is just an amazing author, and in part 6 he really started experimenting with what he can do. First by having his first female protagonist in the Form of Jolyne Kujo. The Daughter of one of our Previous Protagonists Jotaro. Jolyne finds herself in prison after being framed by her lawyer for Grand theft auto and attempting to hide the body. After having an embarrassing encounter with a guard and meeting her soon to be good friend Hermes Costello. After Receiving a gift from her elusive father and hurting her finger on it jolyne comes to awaken her Stand ability "Stone Free", learns of its ability to turn her body into string. After arriving at Green Dolphin Street prison Jolyne meets her cellmate the cowardly Guess. Who we quickly find also possesses a stand ability. An ability she calls "Goo Goo dolls". She uses this ability and shrinks Jolyne down to the size of a mouse and forces her to wear a gutted one as a disguise so that she may sneak around and gather information for an escape attempt. After things go awry Jolyne is forced to fight Guess for her life.

it's weird, sure, but when has jjba ever strived for normalcy?

if there wasn't that ever-present undertone of somehow putting girls on a pedestal while also ensuring they're hardly any sort of character at all that araki seems to do so well, i would give this an easy 5 stars. it's weird, it's completely fucked, and any panel with jotaro in it keeps my attention for a solid minute longer than it should.

jolyne is so close to being a strong character, so close, but like anyone who isn't a normal dude she ends up falling into the worst possible offensive stereotypes. the introduction to her character is iconic, though, so as is usually the case with jojo, i'm conflicted.

Keywords: Prison break, superpower, good vs evil, family, growth, destiny

The 6th part of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure stars the first female Jojo in the whole series, Jolyne Cujoh, Jotaro Kujo’s daughter. It is evident that that Araki has intended to make this part an experimental one. Some are quite successful, but others are more in doubt. But overall speaking, I enjoy reading this part, and consider it as a satisfying ending to the history of Joestar family that we know.

(1) Plot Summary

The story introduces Jolyne Cujoh as a rebellious teenager who was trapped in jail due to a wrong conviction of murder. It turns out that the whole event was a conspiracy devised by Father Enrico Pucci, who attempted to lure Jolyne’s father, Jotaro into a trap in order to get hold of his memory for his own end, namely “going to paradise”. Upon the lost of her father, Jolyne has realised that she has stepped into the dangerous world of stand users, and in order to save her father and herself, she must stand up to fight against Father Pucci and his minions.

(2) Characters

It is really rare to have a female protagonist in a shounen manga, especially in the early 2000s. One of the main benefits of having a female protagonist is that she is more likely to draw sympathy from the audience, and people are more forgiving with the faults she has committed. But she might also become over dependent on her companions (usually male) on her quest. However, Araki has displayed the female sensibility and toughness in Jolyne, and at the same time avoided her becoming a crybaby sitting for help. It is delightful to see Jolyne grows from a rebellious and blinded teenage girl, into a tough and responsible warrior, who does not only go through life and death for her father and friends, but also embrace her destiny to fight off evil as a Joestar. Jolyne is one of the few Jojos that has actually experienced growth in their own story arc, besides Jonathan (but his part is a bit short). For most other parts, the Jojos are more of a lead to other character’s stories. Part 6 is the only part besides part 1 and 2 that feels like an adventure of Jojo.

Though with an outstanding protagonist, however, Araki seems unable to have side characters that are up to the same level. The JoBros of this part seem more one-dimensional than the previous parts, (except FF) and it has the most insufferable villain of the whole series. Father Pucci is the typical “self-claimed saviour” type villain that is so commonly seen in many shounen manga. This type of villains are usually persuaded that they are doing something good for the whole world, and could always reason themselves to pursue this goal even if they need to kill a lot of people. In reality, what they have done / are going to do is only forcing others in accepting their beliefs. But these villains usually have sad background stories that are likely to earn the sympathy of some readers. It is not sure whether Araki has made Father Pucci so unbearable on purpose, but compared to Dio, Kira Yoshikage and Diavolo, Father Pucci is way too common to stand out and his background story is not impressive enough to earn empathy as Kars.

(3) Story and Theme

While Araki did attempted to be innovative on the various stand powers, he obviously could not make it within the rules which he had laid down for himself. Some powers such as that of Dio’s sons are just too exaggerated. That being said, the story itself is still fairly enjoyable. I especially like the philosophical reflection regarding destiny brought out by the ending. Destiny is a recurring theme in the Jojo series. In Part 5, the main characters fight against their destiny, even if it leads to their demise. And in this Part, due to his tragic past in accidentally killing his sister, Father Pucci believed that human would be better off if everyone knows his own fate beforehand. Is our fate really something written on the wall that we could do nothing change? And if it is so, or our fate is changed for the worse by our struggle, why is that we still want to fight against our destiny? I myself believe that destiny is never something that is conceivable to us. And it is due to this fact, that human being can maintain our hopes for the future. If we are told about our fate in advance, it is only to take away our ability to enjoy our lives to the fullest. It is in human nature that we strive for the betterment of our lives, sometimes not just for ourselves, but also for people around us.

First of all, the manga is better than the anime. Why? Because netflix ruined it hahaha! So I recommend to read than to watch Stone Ocean. Anyways...

I love that Araki was not scared of having a female character as tee main character, 'cause this is a good one! I don't have a problem with it. Tho the first introduction of Jolyne made me really question why but ig it is part of the weirdness of this show which I hope so (*꒦ິ꒳꒦ີ)

This part made me cry so much than the other parts! My eyes are hurt (˵ˊᯅˋ˵) I love the relationship here between Jolyne and Jotaro that I don't like visiting because I might cry again! It is bittersweet but I love it! Jolyne and her friends reminds me of Jotaro, Kakyoin and Polnareff friendship, just really nostalgic for me.

The stands here are unique with each other once again! Araki never fails to amaze me! I like how Jolyne stand may seems weak, with her intelligence, she use her stand in a unique way to fight stronger opponents.

A LITTLE BITSY OF SPOILER AHEAD!!

And the ending! The fact that the ending, instead of the main character defeating the villain, it was the side character who did the job which make this series so unique than the other mangas!

description

I loved the theme of forgiveness in Stone Ocean in Jojo part 6 as Jolyn forgives Jotaro for being a bad dad. My thoughts on the book is that this is one of the best jojo parts (though part 5 is still the best) and has such powerful emotions. I thought that the book was great and the Villain was amazing in this part. A big thing that i like was Jotaro was back the whole part to it was amazing. I also loved the fact of Jolyne stand being like Star Platinum and using Ora. Another thing that i absolutely loved was that pucci was a great villain and having background connections to Dio. I didn't like the ending it felt rushed and a bad way to end it. I also didn't like how death was handled it was to long they had time to say last words and stuff Jojo is known for realistic death were you don't have that kind of time.
