Hirohiko Araki ( 荒木飛呂彦) is a Japanese manga artist. He left school before graduation from Miyagi University of Education.
He enjoys the baseball manga Kyojin No Hoshii (Star of the Giants); the video games Mario Kart and Bomberman; and likes Prince and other African-American singers, as well as jazz, rock, and rap.
The story keeps on going strong, I loved Hermes's centered chapters, the new Stands are terrifying. Jolyne is a Joestar to the bone, she has that righteousness heart Koichi mentioned in part 5, referring to Giorno.
The little kid still creeps me up, I have a feelings something is wrong with him, I don't trust him.
The mystery aspect is so entertaining and layered, part 6 has some of the best mysteries I've ever read. The protagonists need to figure out who is attacking them, why, what are the stand abilities and how it connects with a bigger picture and all of it is so intricate and unpredictable and bizarre. I'm very curious where "There's Six of Them" mini arc will lead.
The illustrations are gorgeous and dynamic, it's a pleasure to read the manga.
This is probably coming super late, but volume 66 of Jojo is where it really hit home how much of a fever dream this series is. Maybe it has something to do with other people seeing parts of this volume over my shoulder. And it occurred to me that if they asked what the hell I'm reading, I would have zero chance of giving them a coherent answer.
Anyway, I have to give credit to Araki for another brave choice. While he's never done much for me, Jotaro means a lot to tons of people. He's that Kenshiro style power fantasy that so many young men and boys buy into. He's guy that comes to mind when most people think of Jojo. For better or worse, he is the face of the series. So, to make him the damsel in distress for a female protagonist in a shonen magazine published in 2000... Hell yeah dude. Jolyne's beatdown of Johngalli was fantastic. And then she deliberately dives back into the belly of the beast for the sake of saving her deadbeat dad.
I really like the way Jotaro and Jolyne's relationship is handled. Jotaro is exactly the kind of father you would expect him to be. And that, understandably, causes some paternal angst. And the mix of emotions that come up when he shows up to help Jolyne after abandoning her for so long- I felt that. Full disclosure: I liked the story of Final Fantasy X, particularly the father-child angst. That's an easy in with me. If that's not a deal breaker, hit me up. We can go see a movie and talk about how the church of Yevon is a metaphor for American militarism.
Other miscellaneous highlights include the Florida setting. We get some nice coastal scenery, as well as gratuitous Orange Juice and Alligators. Speaking of Alligators, I love Charlotte. She's an adorable little asshole. Also, I'm curious as to which came first. The "Like a Virgin" bracelets, or Suicide Squad. Because somebody done stole an idea. I just don't know who.
So what's not to like with the way Stone Ocean is going? Well, I wasn't the biggest fan of the Hermes Sticker arc. Araki tends to pose Jolyne and Hermes provocatively when it's not really situationally appropriate. But that arc was where this tendency has reached its worst yet. The same is true of the male protagonists in other parts as well, so maybe I'm overthinking it. But I think not. There have been more panty shots and ladies posing provocatively in these past 30 chapters than there were been in the prior 600. And while I'm at it, can't the translators stop having characters streeeetch oooout theirrrr woooords wheeeennn theeeeey yellll?
Highway to Hell and Burning Down the House don't do much for me either. Stand powers have always been off the wall, but these feel needlessly specific. I would add Kiss to that list, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. Especially since the way it was used to beat Lightening Mcqueen was pretty cool.
Took me what 4 days to read because it was soo soo good Also finally seeing a female Jojo main is super refreshing. The stands in this part are absolutely crazy. I can talk about this part for daays but I want to keep this review spoiler-free(I realised the irony here). The new setting is amazing thought it feels like a closed space but it eventually opens up. The protagonist Jolyne is different, like every other Jojo but she is one at heart. And wow the characters are all so fresh. I dont know why this part gets so much hate. Honestly I loved it and maybe more than some of the previous ones but well yeah one thing's worth noting, you need to be ready for the ending. The whole part had so many wild moments it's like Jojo on steroids. Jolyne's stand is soo sooo cool and the bunch of support characters are all super likable and you'll end up wanting more out of this part, the interactions between them is what really makes this series all the way more fun. The suspense and the twisted start will really catch you off-guard and stick one right on the back of your head. Man keeping this spoiler free is really hard. Also Jolyne is a frikin badass which is well fitting for the family Ok I think that sums it up The antagonist? Guess who's back :)
The theme of the book to me is a story of how jotatri wants to make up his neglect to his daughter and. Im taking away to enjoy life and time with your friends. I also learned live everyday like it is your last. I enjoyed the relationship change between Jotaro and Jolyne. I also like the whole prison aspect in the first few chapter as a reference to Jotaro. I big thing i liked is the main villain Pucci and his connections to Dio. I didn't like the the plot holes everything could have been avoided if they would of got giorno. also the fact of how jotaro can stop time for 5 seconds again when previously being nerfed to 2 doesn't make sense.
While I liked how Hérmes will have a important role in the story and how feminine this cast is, especially considering we’re talking about a shounen manga, the lore was convoluted(specifically regarding the discs). Anyhow, hopefully next volume will be clearer. Besides what was said, the mystery within this part has been engaging and I’m very excited for the outcome.
and we meet hermes!! i love her and jolyne’s dynamic already. she is such a good deuteragonist and i think she contrasts jolyne VERY well. also learned a bit more about emporio and the reason he’s there as well as how the discs work through hermes’ arc with that janitor.
HERMES I LOVE YOU MY QUEEN. she is so badass and her and joelyn make such a fun duo. ALSO EMPORIO MY CHILD. and.... so watching the anime first ofc.... why does anausi/anastasia look like that. when did SHE LOSE CUNT TO BECOME A MAN. UGH. ANWAYS THO. i kinda forgot how gas part 6 is
